Tweedsmuir History subject of WI
The May W.I. meeting was chaired
by Joan Smith. Joan introduced
Heather Consitt who placed third in
public speaking in Hensall . She spoke
on snowmobiling. Heather was thank-
ed by Ina Neeb and presented with a
gift.
The topic for the evening was
Tweedsmuir History. Kay Hay gave
the history of the Zurichdoctorsput in
1984 Historical Society book compil-
ed by Edith Hohner.
A minute's silence was observed in
memory of Edith. The Tweedsmuir
History book along with several scrap
books and Historical Society books
were on display for everyone to look
through.
Verlyn Fisher was appointed
repiesentative on the fair board. Ina
N(b agreed to be a member of the
Historical Society. Mildred Klopp was
appointed alternate district director
with Verlyn Fisher as district
director.
Thirteen members answered the
roll call with What can I do to make
a policeman's job easier?
At the June meeting the Huron
County dairy princess will be speak-
ing. We welcome visitors.

Happy birthday to Mrs. Eileen Con-
sitt whose birthday was on Saturday,
May 11. It was celebrated on Mother's
Day with a family supper at
Hessenland.

meet in Varna

The .Stanley Township history
group meets this Wednesday night at
the Complex at 8:00 o'clock. A deci-
sion has to be made whether to in-
clude family histories in the Atlas, so
a good turnout is requested.
Pat Taylor was awarded a trophy
for high triple score of 744 ( tied with
Sheila Keys) at the Tuesday After-
noon Ladies Bowling League banquet.
She is the incoming president of the
league.
Another house in the village has
-new siding and trim. The Jerry Reid
house, better known to most former
residents as the Aldington house. It
sure looks great! Last year, Mrs.
Laura Keys had new siding installed
on her home; now a new verandah is
being built.
Children of the Sunday School pro-
vided the music for the Mother's Day
service in Varna United Church. They
sang two numbers. Mary Ellen
Webster played a piano solo and
Krista McAsh and her mother played
a piano duet. The offering was receiv-
ed by Julie Webster and Jacqui
Taylor.
Rev. Brown and her puppets Tevey
and Belah led a discussion with the
children on "What is Love, the way
you feel, or the way you act?"
In place of the regular sermon,
Miss Brown told the story of how two
children reacted when their mother,
who had done everything for them,
became critically ill.

What a beautiful week -end. Hand
picked just for mothers.
"Saturday marked the annual
Mother's Day tea and bake sale at the
Home. We thank all who made dona-
tions on behalf of the Ladies Auxiliary
towards the bake table, plants and
craft items, also all who attended to
' make it the success that it was.
Mrs. Thelma Thiel won the cabbage
patch cake and Mrs. Steve Gingerich,
the basket of groceries in the draw.
The monthly meeting of the Ladies
Auxiliary was held on Tuesday even-
ing commencing with a programe in
the dining room. Thi resident choir
sang several numbers with Mr. Aaron
Gingerich taking the solo parts. The
United Church junior choir also sang
several numbers. Piano solos were
rendered by Andrea Hendrick,
Dwana Foreman, Joy Kuepfer and
Cathy Schenk. Mrs. Ann Flaxbard
read a Mother's Day poem. Follow-
ing the program, a delicious luch was
served.
Thursday afternoon some of our
residents enjoyed a bus ride in the
surrounding countryside chaperoned
by Mr. Marc Chalut while his wife,
Eileen, took care of the mai* tires of
some of the ladies in the Home.
Residents are busy as usual in the
hobby shop. We appreciate any dona-
tions of odds and ends of new material
or clean panty hose.

entertained the residents on Thursday
evening with a musical program.

'Friday morning the children of the
Huron Hope school visited with the
residents. Bingo was played on Fri-
day evening followed by
refreshments.
The Sunday evening chapel service
was conducted by Rev. M. Mellecke
of Dashwood Lutheran church.

mation Sunday. May 12 at the morn-
ing service. Those confirmed were
