"Agnes Aunger, whose group was in charge of worship, read a poem about "Sewing." This poem told how the author remembered so fondly watching her mother sew. Helen Coates read a poem called -"Creation". Anne Cann read the scripture passage from I Corinthians 13:4-6 which describes the qualities of love. Agnes Aunger read an in- teresting article on "Family Day". Dorothy Taylor read a poem entitled "No Less Precious" which described handicapped children. Helen Coates led in a responsive prayer. Agnes Aunger introduced the guest Farm future still in doubt After hearing on Friday that neither of the two tenders on their farm was accepted, Tom and Kelly Ryan are hoping to rent their own farm for the summer. The MountCarrnel area couple put in a tender Mav 3 on their farm. as did another bidder. A week later the Farm Credit Corporation decided the tenders they had received weren't accpetable, and told the Ryans finan- cial advisor. Ron Phillips. "you're welcome to make another offer". The Ryans..intend to do just that. hut meanwhile they are waiting for a visit on Wednesday from a FCC representative, to negotiate a lease on their farm for the summer. Tom has already planted a corn crop. taking a chance on getting the lease and being able to put the profits froth that crop's sale towards the eventual purchase price. Phillips wants the money spent on the lease to apply to the eventual pur- chase Brice as well. "Once the lease is arranged,_my clients and myself and the FCC have agreed that we will continue to negotiate to get a satisfac- tory purchase arrangement," Phillips says. But whether the FCC will even- tually accept an offer from the Ryans and let them keep their farm, or sell it to someone else. remains to be seen. Phillips says "the Ryans don't real- ly want the farm if they can't have a viable operation." The farm would not be viable if the eventual purchase price is loo high. Phillips is unhappy with the way the F'('C has handled the tenders. "i think the only reason the FCC asks for tenders is to see who might he interested in buying the farm. Then they go back and ap- proach those people, to try to get more money. That's not the purpose of a tender -- the purpose is to do things in a fair and equitable man- ner." he said. Kingsmount Financial Services. the Arva company of which Phillips is the president. has similar cases on its files where the farm family is not will- ing to go public. Phillips says he has previously dealt with situations where tenders were disregarded. and a larger offer accepted. Ile says the F'('(' is unhappy about -the publicity he is generating in connection with this issue. "They've made it plain they don't like all this publicity. 1 told them if .you don't change your methods we'll have to give you more publici- ty." Ile feels "you have to keep cons- tant pressure on them to get change" For the Ryans all this means the nightmare isn't over yet. "Where does it leave its'' We don't know." Kel- ly said Monday. "it's nice to know we're going to he here for, the sum mer. but then there's always that thought hanging over you about what will we do come fall" The couple and their two young children have been living in uncertainty for close to two years SINGERS PLAN - The Blyth Festival Singers present -.Singing for Fun." the last perfor- mance of their fifth season on Sunday .
