Local squads
play tonight
Local baseball tares will have an op-
portunity to get an early glimpse of
\shat is in store for them during the
upcoming season when the Exeter
Express and ('o -Op Juniors hook up
in an exhibition contest at the com-
munity park. Wednesday.
The game gets underway at 6:30
p.m.
Both teams play in the Great Lakes
league. with the seniors in the nor-
thern division and the juniors in the
southern halt. The two divisions play
an inter -locking schedule.
Coaches Jim Pfaff and Al Gaiser
have about 25 seeking spots on the
junior club. Most of last year's squad
members are back, along with
hopefuls from Parkhill, Zurich,
Seaforth, Dashwood and other area
centres.
"The response has been real good...
Pfaff said. lie expects some "ad-
justments" will be made in the team
after Wednesday's exhibition contest.
The Express have lost three players
from last year, including Ken Pinder,
Gary Hartman and Dave Parsons.
Paul Gilmour and Kevin Hern will
handle the catching duties and the pit-
ching corps will be comprised of
Perry Stover, Jeff Fuller, Steve
Pearce, Dave Hunt, Brian llorner and
Dave Shaw. The latter two will also
be toiling for the juniors.
Infielders include Doug Hoffman,
Walt Parkinson, Rick Lindenfield and
some of the pitching squad.
Patrolling the outfield will be Brian
Mercer, Dave Bogart, Rob Pryde,
Glen 'Thurman, Dave Atthill and
Doug Fairbairn:
Joe Fulop and Thurman will be
handling the coaching chores, while
Geary Penhale returns as general
manager. Laurie Kraftcheck will
handle the managerial chores for the
juniors,
The Express will open their regular
schedule with a double-header at the
local park on Sunday. Walkerton will
supply the opposition with the first
game slated to get underway at 1 :00
p.m.
The juniors will be in Byron on
Saturday to open their regular
schedule.
HAVE POT LUCK
The opening of the Exeter Ladies
Golf Club was held on May 8 with 24
members in attendance. A delicious
pot luck dinner was enjoyed at 12:30
