Soccer team
gets second
The regular Huron -Perth season
finished off this week for South
Huron's soccer teams. The senior
kickers ended the season in second
spot while the juniors completed the
schedule out of the playoff picture.
Wednesday, both soccer teams
travelled to St. Marys. The seniors
defeated the Stonetown boys to
guarantee themselves of a play-off
spot while the junior squad tied 1-1
with Sivilay Sengkhoumany scoring
the South Huron goal.
St. Marys turned out to be one of the
best teams the seniors have met up
with all season. The locals came out
on top of a very evenly matched
game, 4-3. Scoring for the Panthers
were Joe Martens and Dorkeo Chan-
samome with two goals each.
The season ended for the local
juniors, Friday, despite defeating the
Goderich Vikings 141. The win was not
enough for the locals to claim one of
the four playoff positions. Scoring for
the locals was Sivilay Sengkhoumany.
In the senior match the locals tied
the Vikings by a 1-1 score in a game
that decided first place. A win Friday
would have given the SUDHS seniors
first place and home field advantage
throughout the playoffs. Joe Martens
scored the lone South Huron goal.
The feeling amongst the senior
squad after the Goderich gape was
one of disappointment. The Panthers
outplayed their visitors, especially in
the second half. Joe Martens' missed
penalty shot turned out to be the dif-
ference between first and second
place.
The local seniors will enjoy the
comfort of home field advantage for
semi-finals. Thursday. It is still
unclear who the Panthers will face.
The playoff picture would not be cer-
tain until all league games were
finished.
Ladies play
,underway
Exeter Ladies Slowpitch got under-
way last week with four games being
played. The Downtown Dollies
trounced J.J's 25-6, the Sundowners
took the Albatross Angels 16-6, while
Canadian Tire and Good Times won
close games of 9-6 against the Huron
Park Devils and 4-0 against South
Huron Hospital repectively.
Games scheduled for this week are
J.J. vs Canadian Tire, diamond 2;
Downtown Dollies meet the Sun -
downers on diamond 3; Huron Park
Devils and Good Times go to Kirkton
and the Exeter Indian-ettes play their
first game of the season with the
Albatross Angels in Huron Park.
Teams appear fairly well matched
and it should prove to be an exciting
season.
