Women in the 1980s teacher session theme Each Tuesday in April, the Huron Women Teachers' Association spon- sored a course on Professional Growth and Self -Development. This course was offered at Victoria Public School, Goderich. "Women in the Eighties". the: theme of this year's course. featured women's profes- sional concerns in various areas oI communication, media, law and the Arts. Ked Components of Communica- tion" was at the centre of Victoria Corbel 's Federated Women's Teachers Association of Ontario presentation on the opening night. By studying one's own personal methods of communication, one was able then. to see what the basis is for effective communication. One of the professional areas that has come a long way in accepting women as equal, is tht media. Phyllis Bennett from CFPL-TV, spoke about problems and concerns that affect women's success in the media. She feels that 'women have had an uphill struggle in being accepted by the media, especially television, because of the emphasis placed on appearance and age. Goderich lawyer Norm Pickell. gave the teachers an extensive insight into the rights -of women. As Section 15, the equality section of the Charter of Rights became effective April 17, 1985, this session was most appropriate. Mona Mulhern, a Goderich artist, revealed a personal message to the teachers, discussing her problems and concerns about becoming ac- cepted as a professional artist. Her slide presentation created much discussion and as well. represented many years of dedicated work. People who are familiar with the Blyth Theatre, know about the amount of ground work that makes the end product possible. Represen- ting the theatre that evening were Katherine Kaszas, Artistic Director, Brenda Doner, General Manager and Linda Lentz, head of fund raising. ptri 1 Of Our Hanover Store Help Us Celebrate In Exeter and SAVE ! \o, Door Crasher Kayser Panty Hose 2 Pairs For 1 Reg. 1.79 pr.
