Lent
Lent started on Ash Wednesday and
it ends Easter morning. That was
when Jesus rose. Our classroom is
giving up good things for Jesus. We
are going to give the poor people toys.
food and clothing.

Former Authority head
gets auspicious award
A former warden of Oxford County
and a real estate agent in St. Marys
was named chairman of the Upper
Thames River Conservation
Authority.
Hugh Munro, 57, of RR 1 Lakeside
was named chairman at the authori-
ty's annual meeting in Embro on
February 28. Mr. Munro replaces
John Stephen of RR 1 St. Marys who
has been UTRCA chairman for the
past nine years.
Munro said it would be difficult to
follow in Mr. Stephen's shoes, but said
he would continue the authority's em-
phasis on soil erosion and water
quality.
Stephen received two com-
memorative plates as well as a pla-
que from authority members and
staff. Ile also had his recently award-
ed Governor -General's conservation
award with him.
The former UTRCA chairman
received the conservation award
from Governor-General Jeanne
Sauve on February 19. He was one of
three Canadians to receive the award.
Stephen is actually retiring from
the conservation authority complete-
ly, but London alderman Frank Flit -
ton ensured that Stephen would still
be around the UTRCA. He made a
motion that everyone agreed to - it
was that Stephen be made an
honorary life time member of the
authority.
1n his parting speech, Stephen said
it "behooves" the authority to
establish another conservation educa-
tion centre like the facilities at
Wildwood.
Bill Lane of • North Dorchester
Township was elected vice-chairman
of the authority. He defeated Ald. Flit -
ton for the position.
