as both clubs have championship titles on their minds.
In the other WOAA semi-final Lions Head leads Woodford, an
Owen Sound area club two games to one.
All school students in the area are on Spring Break holidays
this week, but, mothers should not despair about having their off-
spring in their hair for the entire week.
Thanks to a number of hockey tournaments and an excellent
program of recreation activities planned by rec director Lynne
Farquhar, much of any expected free time can be taken care of.
$ Lynne has lined up a special treat today, Wednesday for area
5 youngsters. Mr. Magic will be on hand at the South Huron Rec Cen-
tre at 2 p.m. with an excellent show of magic and eye betraying
tricks.
The admission is only one dollar and boys and girls are en-
couraged to bring their parents along. Just remember, regardless
of age the hand is quicker than the eye.
Advance tickets are available and may be reserved by call-
ing the Rec Centre at 235-2833.
The second free session of ice skating is available Thursday
afternoon from 3:30 to 5 p.m.
Friday is only March 15, actually two days prior to St. Patrick's
Day, but it will be advantageous to all to wear a bit o' the green
when arriving for Friday's activities.
The St. Patrick's Day special is the presentation of a Walt
Disney movie entitled "Darby O'Gill and the Little People". It goes
at 10 a.m.
Regular admission is $1.50, but anyone wearing a touch of the
green will get a reduction of 50 cents. To get in on the special price
take a close look at your closets for green. It could be socks, shoes,
shirts, pants, coats, scarves, mittens or anything that can be con-
strued as -wearing apparel
In the concession booth, Jane Dearing is also offering a St.
Patrick's Day treat. Green slush puppies will he on sale for only
25 cents, one-half the regular price.
All this week the Exeter figure skating club is sponsoring a
Spring Break school for skaters within a 30 mile radius of Exeter.
Club president Peter Aunger reports about 30 have registered and
will be on the ice each day from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. until Friday
afternoon.
The Exeter members get an extra week of skating the follow-
ing week to make up for a number of days missed because of storm
cancellations.
This will be followed by a test day for Exeter and Zurich figure
skating club members on Saturday. March 23.

Playoffs continue
A biggame is coming up Friday night at South Huron Rec Cen-
tre for the Exeter Mohawks as they attempt -to capture the Western
Ontario Athletic Association intermediate "A" championship.
The Mohawks currently down two games to one to the
Teeswater Falcons were at home last night Tuesday for the fourth
game of the best -of -seven series.
The fifth game is scheduled for the local arena at 8:30 p.m. •
By that time the series could be tied at two games apiece or the
Mohawks could be fighting to stay alive.
In any case, Friday's game promises to be an excellent one

Another Casey
It wits interesting to learn that the name of Casey Stengel is
still in the game of baseball.
The groundskeeper at Grant Field in Dunedin, Florida where
the Toronto Blue Jays train is a lady and her name is Casey
Stengel.
Coach of the year
A former junior hockey player in Seaforth has been named
coach of the year in college hockey ranks in the United States.
The honour has gone to Ron Mason who is in his third year
at Michigan State and before that was head coach at Lake Superior
State in northern Michigan.
Mason was one of the founders of the Huron Hockey School
at Huron Park.
A weekend touranment at Joe Louis arena in Detroit was won
by Michigan State. A member of the Michigan State club is Craig
Simpson of London. He has been nominated for the Hobey Baker
award and should be a high choice in the June NHL draft.
Locals in junior playoffs
The St. Marys Lincolns have reached the OHA Junior 'B'
quarter finals and two of the main reasons for their great success
has been the play of John Kernicicof Exeter and Jeff Shipley from
Lucan.
Kernick has enjoyed an excellent career in St. Marys. In his
first season he was named rookie of the year.

Mohawks fall game back in WOAA play
The Exeter Mohawks find
themselves one game back of the
Teeswater Falcons in the Western On-
tario Athletic Association in-
termediate "A" semi-finals.
Teeswater won the first game of the
best -of -seven series in Hensall Thurs-
day night by a score of 9-3 and the
Mohawks roared back to even the
series in Teeswater, Friday with 4-1
victory.
The Falcons took the one game
edge with a 5-2 victory Sunday after-
noon, also at home.
The fourth game was played in Ex-
eter last night, Tuesday with the fifth
slated for the South Huron Rec Cen-
tre Friday night with faceoff time set
for 8:30 p.m.
In Thursday's opening game, the
Teeswater club took a 2-1 first period
lead and the Mohawks were never
able to recover as their opposition,
scored three times in the middle
frame and notched four more scores
in the final 20 minutes of play.
The only Mohawk score of the first
period came from the stick of Brian
Mercer with assists going to Jim
Guenther and Pete Tuckey.
Terry Caldwell was the
marksman for the second period Ex-
eter score on a three-way passing ef-
fort with Randy Kraut and Ken
Varley.
In the third period, Barry Baynham
completed the Exeter scoring on
passes provided by Brian Mercer and
Pete Tuckey.
Captain Kent Cerson led the
Teeswater scoring attack with a hat
trick performance. Dwight Leslie was
next with a two goal effort and scor-
ing in single fashion were Terry
Davidson, Larry Meyer, Dan David-
son and Clint Petteplace.
In Teeswater Friday night, the
home team scored the first goal mid-
way through the first period and that
was the only shot to get by Exeter
goalie Louis Arts.
Less than a minute after Jim
LeGrand had counted for the Falcons,
Bryan Baker tied the score for the
Mohawks on passes from Barry
Baynham and Jim Guenther.
With six minutes remaining in the
first stanza, Barry Baynham fired a
successful shot for what proved to be
the winner for the locals. Assisting
were Randy Kraut and Pete Tuckey.
In the second session, Brian Mercer
converted a pass from Barry
Baynham and he was on the passing
end of a goal by Pete Tuckey tocom-
plete the Mohawks scoring in the final
period.

Bantams win over Hensall
The Exeter bantam houseleague
team handed Hensall their first loss
of the season. beating them 6-5.
Saturday.
Hensall started off quickly. with
Jim Dickens and Rob Taylor scoring
early in the first period. to give them
a 2-0 lead which carried into the se-
cond period. .
Frank Woodward scored for Exeter
half way through the second period.
After receiving a pass from Tom
Rolph, he circled the net and scored
from close in. firing the puck between

with David Josephson getting the first
on a shot from the slot, with assists
going to Henri Debruyn and Peter
Lerikos.
Jeff Rowe was left uncovered in
front of the net, and after receiving a
pass from Jeff Playfoot, he waited un-
til the goalie went down and then flip-
ped the puck into the top corner.
Woodward got his second goal of
the game. with a shot from inside the
blueline that the goalie was screened
on. Chris Campbell scored to tie the
game for Hensall.
Henri Debruyn then scored two
goals, with Jay Davison and Brent
McDonald drawing assists on the
first. The second was unassisted.
With Less than 30 seconds left in the
game. Hensall pulled their goalie.
Debruyn took the puck from the lone
defenseman and scored into the emp-
ty net. Rob Taylor scored for Hensall
with eight seconds left. to make the
final score 6-5.
Pee wees out
of Young Canada
The' Exeter Legion Auxiliary pee
wees reached the second round of the
annual Young Canada tournament in
Goderich before being eliminated.
In their first contest, the local
youngsters downed Byron by a score
of 3-2 before bowing to (he host
Goderich club 2-1.
Mark Burton scored the first Ex-
eter goal on passes from Jamie
Bedard and Tim van Dam in the win
over Byron.
The second score was notched by
van Dam on a pass from Dave
Dalrymple and captain Dave O'Con-
nor fired what proved to he the winn-
ing goal on a three-way passing com-
bination with Tim van Dam and Dave
Dalrymple.
In the loss to Goderich the only Ex-
etWr goal came from the stick of
Haden Tinney on an unassisted
effort.

Slow starters
In Sunday's game in Teeswater, the
only scoring in the first period came
in the last four minutes and 38
seconds.
With less than five minutes to go
Teeswater captain Kent Cerson. hit
the Exeter net for the first time.
Three minutes later the Mohawks
were back on even terms as Brian
Mercer converted a pass from Pete
Tuckery.
When it appeared as if the first 20
minutes would end in a one goal
deadlock, the Falcons scored twice in
the last 30 seconds of play. Hitting the
mark were Kent Cerson and Clint
Petteplace.
In the second period. Cerson scored
his third goal of the afternoon for
Teeswater and Tom Ryan replied for
the Mohawks on a three-way passing
effort with Mark Cronyn and Dave
Ja
In the third period. Cerson with his
fourth of the clay and Craig Anderson
completed the scoring for the
winners.
Referee -Peter Chisholm called on-
ly six penalties with the Exeter club
taking four of these.

Jeremy Brock providing the assist.

Crunchers won handily by a score al

Allan McFalls fired two successful
shots for the Crunchers. Both were
set up by Brent Miron.
