The !Mohawks scored a1 4-1 win over
the llingham RoyaIs in Hensall
Thursday night to qualify to meet
Teeswater in a wild and woolly game
which included a bench clearing
brawl with :16 seconds remaining in
the third period.
1'he first game against Teeswater
will be played tomorrow night. Thurs-
day at the Hensall arena with game
tune set tot' 8:30 p.m. The next two
contests are in Teeswater Friday at
8::3o p m. and Sunday afternoon at
1:30 p.m.
InThursday's win over Wingham.
the Mohawks took a 2-1 second period
lead and added a pair of unanswered
goals in the third period to clinch the
victory.
Pete Tuckey opened the scoring
for the Mohawks at 3:58 of the second
period on a three-way passing com-
bination with Dave Kinsman and
Brian Mercer. Only a minute later
Jay Maclaurin squared the score for
Wingham.

Locals win
in houseleague
The Exeter bantam houseleague
team defeated Clinton 8-1 in a
scheduled game played in Clinton,
Saturday.
Henri DeBruyn led the way with a
three goal performance and also pick-
ed up two assists. His first came dur-
ing a goal -mouth scramble, with
assists going to Peter Lerikos and
David Josephson.
Ilis second came as a result of some
excellent fore checking. After taking
the puck from a defenseman, he
skated in on the goalie and tucked the
puck behind him.
His third goal came during another
goal -mouth scramble,' with ' Mike
Conlan picking up an assist. David
Josephson had a three point game,
with two goals and one assist.
One of his goals was a short-handed
effort. the result of persistent
forechecking. Jeff Rowe, Jeff
Playfoot and Laurie Chalmers.

were Jay Davison and Mike Conl;i
with two each, and single ones gourp,
to Jason McFalis.
Daryl Hemingway spoiled the
shutout attempt of Kevin Wallace and
Brent McDonald, when he scored in
the second period. Jason McFalls
picked up the only assist.
SH juniors
go to WOSSA
South Huron's girls volleyball
teams competed at the Huron Perth
Championships last week. The junior
squad finished second in the con-
ference and qualified for WOSSA
while the senior volleyballers finish-
ed fourth to end their season.
Both teams had to qualify for a
berth in the Huron -Percy Champion-
ships at preliminary play last Mon-
day. The juniors travelled to Stratford
Northwestern for the preliminaries to
the conference finals while the senior
volleyballers made the trip to St.
Marys.
The juniors had an excellent day at
the preliminaries, finishing first in
their pool of five teams. The Panthers
recorded seven of a possible eight
points after facing teams from
Wingham. Mitchell, Seaforth and St
Marys in two games.
The junior Panthers had another
excellent day at the Huron -Perth
finals played in Wingham, Thursday.
The locals defeated Stratford Nor-
thwestern and Wingham in straight
games but were swept by Stratford
Central two games to none.
That put the junior Panthers second
in the Iluron-Perth conference and
qualifies them for WOSSA which is to
be held in Tillsonhurg on the first
Saturday following the March break.
The Panthers. who have come on
very strong in the last part of the
season. are very confident going into
WOSSA. They are playing excellent
volleyball and are hoping for a good
showing in Tillsonburg.
On the senior side of play. the locals
qualified for the Huron -Perth finals
by finishing second behind Nor-
thwestern in their pool However. the
Panthers saw their season come to an
end in Wingham where they finished
fourth of the five competing teams.
The local seniors were unable to get
it all together at the conference finals.
The Panthers swept Seaforth in two
straight games but had the favour
returned when they faced the even-
tual winner, Stratford Central. The
Panthers were also defeated by
Wingham and Stratford Nor-
thwestern Iwo games to one
The seniors will now hang up their
shoes but not after having an ex-
cellent season. The local seniors plac
ed runners-up at two tournaments
and did place itt the top four in the

ched what proved to be the winning
goal with Barry Baynham and Jamie
Caldwell providing the assists.
In the third period, Brian Mercer
converted a pass from Jim Guenther
at 1:49 and onlyseconds after the big
tight, Pete Tuckey found the
Wingham net with assists going to
Jim Guenther and Kandy Kraul.
Four of the Mohawks, Bryan
Baker, Barry Baynham, Rick Linden -
field and Randy Kraut were assess-
ed game misconduct penalities dur-
ing the bench clearing incident. -
The team must pay a fine of $25 for
each of these four players to make
them eligible for Thursday's first
game against Teeswater.
Waxers bounced
in novice playoffs
The Exeter Waxers were knocked
out of Shamrock league novice
playoffs Saturday in Mt. Brydges as
they were defeated 2-0 by St. Marys
and 3-1 by Strathroy.
Sunday the Waxers turned in a
much improved effort as they
defeated Forest 5-1 in an exhibition
game. It was sweet revenge for a 2-1
loss to Forest in the Parkhill Silver
Stick tourney.
Sean McCann led the Waxers in a
scoring way with a hat trick perfor-
mance. Two of his scores came by
way of the unassisted route and the
other was on a pass from Ted
Hoffman.
Ian Jean and Ted Hoffman were the
other Exeter marksmen with Marty
DeBruyn, Trevor Taylor and McCann
picking up assists.
Matt Godlbot and Chris McDonald
played particularly well on defence
and were on the ice for all five Exeter
goals.
In the Mt. Brydges tourney, Ian
Jean chalked up the only goal for the
Waxers on a pass from Marty
DeBruyn against Strathroy.
In the regular schedule St. Marys
finished first with 32 points and the
Waxers were second with 25 points
and Strathroy third with 23.
Belmont and Lambeth now play for
the championship in Lucan on Sun-
day, March 24.
SHUFFLEBOARD
In a shuffleboard tournament at the
South Huron Rec Centre Wednesday,
Marshall Dearing and Gertrude
Hamilton teamed up to win first prize
with a score of 210.
Second place was taken by Milford
Prouty and Phil Hern at 191. Next
came Delmer Skinnerand . os

and Marion Dearing 153.
John Oberle recorded a score of 355
to capture Thursday's competition.
Following in order were Delmer Skin-
ner 292, Phil Hern 289, Marshall Dear-
ing 241 and Ross Marshall 241.
