Goderich teams take both titles
Two Goderich teams won the cham-
pionships in the weekend first annual
rec hockey tournament sponsored by
the Exeter Inn -Diann and Dave Urlin
of Exeter Ino.
The Bedford Hotel club won the championship.
"A" title with a 5.1 over Strathroy and
the Goderich Rockets downed
Hodge's Milling, also of Goderich 3-2
in overtime to claim the "B"

Bedford Hotel reached the final
round defeating the St. Marys
Bulldogs 7-5 in a shootout after St.
Marys had led 4-1 with less than eight
minutes to go in regulation time.
Paul Kelly led the Bedford victory
with three goals. Getting singles were
Brian Moody, Tim Enintt and Dan
Postill replied for Hodges Milling.
On the way to the semi-finals. Bed -
in Exeter
ford defeated the Exeter Outlaws 4-2
and the Young and Restless 5-1.
Dave Kinsman and Bob McDonald
were the Outlaws scorers and Tony
Tire 8-2 and the Whalers 13-0. Mike
Cushman and Gerry Kurtz scored for
Algoma Tire.
On the way to the B final, the
Rockets downed the Colonials 5-2 and
Crediton Sho-Gun 7-2. Scoring for
Crediton were Dick Lord and Dave
Dart league scores
The 4 -W's were the only team to
sweep five points in Friday's regular
play in the Exeter Legion mixed dart
league.

The first game of the best -of -three
series goes at the South Huron Her
Centre Wednesday night
During the week. the Legion Aux-
iliary sponsored team lost a 4-3
Shamrock decision to St. Marys and
lost 2-1 to New Hamburg and played
a 2-2 tie with Fergus before losing in
a shootout in a tournament in
Mitchell
In the final Shamrock game of the
year. a goal by Derek Shackleton with
less than tour minutes to go gave St.
Marys the 4-3 win.
[laden Tinney notched the first Ex-
eter score on a pass from Dave
Dalrymple, ,lust in ('harrette counted
on a three-way effort with Al Blom-
maerl and Dave O'Connor and O'Con-
nor converted a pass from Titsney.
The only Exeter goal in the tourney
loss to New Hamburg was fired by
David Dalrymple on a pass from
Jamie Cornish.
Todd blc('ann noted both Exeter
goals against Fergus. One came on an
unassisted effort and the other on
passes from Dave Dalryrmple and
Jim Ahrens.

Tykes post
two victories
The Exeter Tykes were busy in the
past two weeks winning two of three
games.
In Zurich February 16 the tykes lost
on a 4-3 score. Exeter went ahead 2-0
on goals by Bryan Richardson and
Scott Insin.
The Zurich squad came back to tie
the game and Billy Parker finally
gave Exeter a 3-2 lead in the third.
Late in the third Zurich scored to tie
the games on a goal that Exeter net -
minder Jason Lindenfield appeared to
have saved. With only 1:14 left on the
clock Zurich scored again to win 4-3.
In Huron Park Wednesday the
tykes again managed toedgea strong
Huron Park team by a 2-1 score.
The scoring was done in the second
period when Billy Parker gave Ex-
eter a 1-0 lead. Two minutes and twen-
ty seconds later Jeff Glavin put Huron
Park back in the game. At the 13:00
of the second Jeff MacLean scored
the winning goal. A scoreless third
period followed.
in Hensall Saturday the locals gain-
ed their second victory in .three
games. The Hensall tykes were close
in the first half of the game and Ex-
eter lead 3-2.
The Exeter squad then came up
with several goals to record the win.
Scorers were Jeff Sararas , Ryan
Soldan, Bryan Richardson, John
Moore. Adam Hearn, Scott Insin,
Brent Urlin and Michael Schivendt.
The Tykes from Ilensall, Zurich,
Huron Park and Exeter are all busy
preparing for the Exeter Tykes Tour-
nament for the South Huron Area.
The Tournament runs Monday,
March 11, Thursday. March 14 and
Friday. March 15. Zurich and Huron
Park face off at 6 p.m. Monday,
March 11 and Exeter faces Hensall at
7 p.m.
These young players need your sup-
port to come and see the hockey pro-
grammes in our area and to enjoy the
thrills and antics of exciting tyke
hockey.
Dearing best
in shuffleboard
Lorne Marshall recorded a score of
219 to lead Tuesday's shuffleboard
play at'the South Huron Rec Centre.
Next came Grace Farquhar 186, Jean
!fern 161 and Ross Marshall 145.
A score of 223 allowed Clara Harris
to capture Wednesday's competition.
Next in order came Phil Ilern th.
Velma Huff and John Oberle 202.

Oliver finished the game with 46
saves, while Pete Dearing had 34 for
the Hawks, with 14 of those coming in
the final period when his steady play
pulled his mates out of some •trouble
spots as the Braves rallied in their ef-
fort to erase the Hawks lead.
The locals- served 17 of the 31
penalties called in the hard-hitting
contest witnerssed by a good crowd at
Hensall.
First blood •
The Braves used home ice advan-
tage to win the first game of the series
8-6, Thursday, but they had to rally
from an early deficit and use a ques-
tionable disallowed Exeter goal to do
it.
The Hawks led 3-2 after the first,
but wilted in the final two stanzas as
they were out -scored 3-1 and 3-2
respectively, with the final Tavistock
goal going into an empty net when
Exeter pulled Pete Dearing for an ex-
tra attacker in the vain attempt to get
the equalizer.
Sean Whiteford and Don Hamilton
scored twice to pace the Hawks, with
the single markers coming off the
sticks of Steve Batten and Mike Clark.
Bill Glover helped on two tallies and
drawing single assists were Jeff
Pfaff, Trevor Johnston, Scott Brint-
nell, Whiteford and Steve Prout.
Dearing finished the game with
a. or
the Braves. Each team sat out eight
penalties with Clark and Tavistock's
Terry Tomiuk being banished in. the
second for fighting.
The Braves scored two powerplay
tallies and. the Hawks had one.
The locals thought they had another
marker, but the referee waved it off,
despite the fact it has also been
signalled by the Tavistock goal judge.

The Hodges team blanked the Red
Devils 13-0 and edged Ilderton 4-3 to
get to the B last rung. Scoring for II-
derton were Jerry Steward, Kevin
Jamieson and Rick Sullivan.
The Zurich Buckeyes blanked
Hodges 2-0 and lost 4-2 to St. Marys.
Kris Bedard and Mark Regier scored
for Zupich in the loss to St. Marys and
Bedard and Bob Hay counted against
Hodges.
In the other games for the Outlaws,
I andy Parker scored on a shootout to
beat Ilderton. Brad Baker notched the
other goal. Kevin Jamieson counted
for Ilderton.
Rick Sullivan and Jim Sullivan
each scored twice and Charlie Frank
and Kevin Jamieson added singles as
Ilderton downed the Young agd
Restless 6-3. Scoring for the losers
were Dave Prout, Scott Pincombe
and Gary Sararas.
In their other games, Crediton
Shogun edged the Whalers 4-2 and lost
5-2 to Algoma Tire. Gerald Weido
scored three times for Algoma with
Gerry Kurtz and Paul Kerslake ad-
ding singles. Jim Siddall and John
Schwindt tallied for Crediton.
Sho Gun scorers against the
Whalers. were Jim Siddall, Matt
Muller, Steve Schroeder and Dave
Cornell. Jeff Rowe and Mark
Vandergunst were the Whalers
marksmen.
Scott Burton was the only goal
scorer for the Colonials in a 7-1 loss
to Oakridge.
