Your friends in Room 12 Preparing for Public Speaking - This year we are starting Public Speaking. I picked my topic about cats and kittens. First you get some information out of books. Then you write it out in a rough copy. It has to be three minutes. Then you let your teacher check it. Next write in on good copy. Then you practice it. This week we judge it in our classroom and they pick five good speakers. They go to the gym. Next year we are going to the gym because we are just learning this year. Lisa Robertson EXETER B.I.A. Inaugural Meeting Tonight Wed., Feb. 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the town council chambers All Exeter Mainway members are invited to attend. ing home beds to that community but wrote in his letter that he was upset at the way the Ministry made its decision. He said he was pleased to hear that an allocation of 30 beds had been ap- proved for Exeter but added it was unfortunate the Ministry found itself in the position of "having to service the needs of one town only by depriv- ing another town of its long establish- ed needs." Riddell said he found the manner in which the transfer of beds was ap proved on the part of the Ministry, without consultation with the Seaforth officials, "unusual to say the least" and said it "certainly displaced and refused to recognize the vital impor- tance of input of the community" from which the beds were being taken. "It seems to me," he wrote, "that you owe it to the Town of.l6eaforth, who are being displaced and disad- vantaged by the removal of the beds, a new allocation of beds to cover the need immediately." In reference to his letter, Riddell said he doubted he would receive a reply before the new cabinet had assembled. He did say that he ex- pected it tohave some positive results for Seaforth. "The Ministry makes so much money available, and so many beds available each year, so I'm sure with what we're saying the Town of Seaforth will be right at the top of the list for receiving more beds," he said. "Apparently this thing has been happening in a lot of communities. This thing in Seaforth is not a first. The Ministry has been reallocating beds from a number of older homes around the province. It's been a policy of government that I've not been aware of. But it still surprises me that they'd do such a thing without con- sulting with all parties involved," he said. Calling the Ministry decision a "disservice which has been visited upon the Town of Seaforth", Riddell said he would not rest until the "disservice" was "remedied" and "rectified".
