A group of local musicians and
photographers will be performing in
a bonus concert on Saturday.
February 23 for those who bought
tickets to the Youth and Music con-
cert series in Grand Bend this year.
Sound and Image '85 is the fourth con-
cert being presented by the Grand
Bend Concert Association for 1984-85.
Lynn Tremain, a grade five teacher
from Woodside Public School will be
playing the flute, verginal and piano.
Music is a year round hobby for Lyn.
She plays in the Forest Excelsior
Band, directs choirs and musicals at
the school and even attends a music
camp in the summer.
Pianist Bob Enns will accompany
many of the artists that evening and
will play a piano duet with Lynn as
well. Bob accompanies area musi-
cians several times during the year.
Last December, he performed with
Lynn and association president Dawn
Crate for an appreciative audience at
Chateau Gardens in Parkhill. Bob is
an English teacher from the North
Lambton SecondarySchool in Forest.
The clarinet will be played by
Frank Brennan, a newcomer to this
area. Frank recently appeared as
guest artist with the International
Symphony and in May he will be play-
ing a concerto by Weber with the
Georgian Symphony. in the past, he
-has also played in recitals for the
CBC. Last year Frank started an in-
strumental music program at St.
John Fisher School in Forest. Tony

Bishop confirms candidates
On Sunday. the congregation
. welcomed Bishop Sherlock to the
parish to administer the Sacrament
of Confirmation to 11 adult catholics.
He was assisted by Pastor Father
Morrissey and by Father Bob
Remark the Bishop's secretary and
vice chancellor of the diocese.
The following people were confirm-
ed: Denise and John Duchou, Matt
Mahoney, Bonnie Ducharme, Howie
Green. Linda Arnold, Kathy Market
and Marlene Lane. Pat Breen and
Tino Brewer were confirmed and also
received Jesus for the first time in lfo-
ly Communion.

certificate on the occasion of his con-

ing anniversary for Larry and Carol,
so they were presented with a plaque
of the Pope's blessing on their
marriage.
A special solo for the services was
rendered by Mrs. Roberta Walker.
Bishop Sherlock delivered the ser -
man which dealt with the presence of
suffering in this world.
Some people believe that if they
follow alt Christ's teachings they will
be rewarded here on earth. but as
Christian's we must accept the cross
of Christ. It is the doorway to eternal
life and joy without end. but the road
leads through the suffering and
darkness of this world. the Sacrament
of Confirmation helps to strength us
for these trials.

Rood, son of Paul and Pamela nee
Brenner were received into the
Catholic Community by the Sacra-
ment of Baptism.
About 100 children attended the
nine o'clock mass to celebrate the
beginning of the Guide -Scout Week.
Father Morrissey welcomed all the
Brownies, Guides, Path Finders,
Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Venturers
who marched in the parade and at-
tended the service.
High School students are invited to

United Church
On Sunday morning at Grand Bend
United Church, Rev. Peebles spoke on
"Foundations" basing his sermon on
Isaiah 6 and Matthew 16. Elizabeth
Adams read the lesson wherein Rev.
Pebbles talked of the Christian faith
and how people who once believed
have fallen by the wayside.
Irene Kennedy played the organ
music in the absence of the regular
organist. Norma and Alan Walper
were door greeters before the service.

enjoyed a sleigh ride February 16 at
the 1'.F. Walker residence. After en-
joying the tractor ride through
Oakwood they went inside to enjoy
chili. hol chocolate and donuts.
Oakwood Dining Room was the site
for the 58th wedding anniversary for
Mr and Mrs Fred Brown of Arkona
who have had. a cottage for many
Years in Oakwood.

School Board.
Cindy Metcalf, a dedicated music
student from Forest, will delight the
audience with a piano solo. Each
year, Cindy performs in the Lambton
County and London Music Festivals
where she has won numerous scholar-
ships and awards. She also competes
in the Canadian Music Competition
and has made it to the National level
twice, once achieving a second place

. Soprano Roberka Walker from
Grand Bend will be joining the other
artists in the concert as well. Rober-
ta is well known throughout the area
for the solos she sings at weddings
and at other special occasions.
Andrew Southcott originally from
Grand Bend will be returning home
to play in the concert Saturday even-
ing. Andrew will first treat the au-
dience to two french horn solos and
then join three of the other artists to
play a quartet.. Andrew is presently
living in Boston where he has been
studying music and performing for
several years.
Flutist Robert VanWyke will be
performing both on the baroque and
modern flute. Robert teaches vocal
music in an elementary school in
Hamilton, Ontario. During the sum-
mer months, he enjoys teaching flute
'at CAMMAC, a music camp for
amateur musicians of all ages.
Robert has played in many chamber
groups and orchestras and has also
recorded for CBC radio.

curator, Bob Tremain will end the
concert with an inspiring slide show.
The love of nahrre has taken Terry
and Bob into many beautiful areas.
By carefully choosing music to ac-
company the slide show, they will try
to recreate the feeling of being there.

On Saturday, 14 youths and their
leaders travelled to London to attend
the youth rally at the London Church
of God. The speaker was Rev. Randy
Rohr from Michigan.
On Sunday the Church of God
welcomed the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts,
Guides and Brownies and leaders to
the morning service. Pastor Camp-
bell spoke on "The I'rodigal" taken

Love theme
The UCW afternoon. unit met on
February 14 at 1:30 p.m. in the church
basement. Doris Peebles opened the
meeting on the topic of love. Love is
not always receiving but giving, and
love never counts the cost, she said.
in keeping with the theme, "Come let
us' sing of a Wonderful Love.' was
sung.
Marjorie Mason gave an infor-
mative talk from the study book on
Korea. She told of a personal story
about a young woman who was a tex-
tile factory worker. Seven family
members shared one room in the
slums. This young woman worked 13
hours a day and received $15.00 a
month.
President Elizabeth Norris chaired
the business part and 18 ladies
answered the roll call. Letters were
read from missionairies, Pat and Stan'
Desjardine in Tanzania, Africa; and
the Rob Wilmers in .Japan.
The World's Day of Prayer will be
held at St. John's Anglican church
this year on Friday. March 1 at 2:00
p.m.
Norma Carey and Loreen Gill were
lunch hostesses and served a delicious
Valentine treat.
Coffee hour
Ten ladies were out to the Bible
study at Nita Sinclair's home in
Southcott Pines Tuesday morning.
Nita lead the lesson from a
woman's workshop on Romans. with
a study of chapter 4:16-25.
Millie Desjardine led a hymn sing
and gave a closing prayer. The
meeting will he the same time and
place next week.

On February 12. Bob Chapdelaine
and Halina Crawford played the top
darts, with Judy Roane and Keith
Crawford in second place. On
Wednesday the legion were guests of
Southcott Pines dart club. Everyone
enjoyed an evening of fun and close
games as Lou ilamilton proved to be
the winning player overall.
At the euchre party on Friday even-
ing. Alex Russell won the door prize.
Ladies high was Bonnie Humphries,
Alex Russell men's high. ladies' low
Eileen iliggins and ,Julius Orhan play-
ing the men's low cards.

Sleigh rides continued
