Rec Centre will be busy spot during
The last two months of the winter's season are going to be very
busy for the staff and those spectators enjoying the many events
on tap at the South Huron Rec Centre.
Special events include four hockey tournaments in addition to
the annual carnival of the Exeter figure skating club along with
a number of weekly happenings.
The figure skating carnival which is the main fund raising ac-
tivity for the club is set for Saturday, February 16 with two shows
going at 2 p.m. and 7 :30 p.m. In addition to participation by all
members of the club, the three local precision skating teams will
show their expertise.
A men's rec league hockey tournament is slated for the
weekend of February 16, 17 and 18 to be followed by the Shamrock
league midget "A" playoff championship rounds on Saturday,
March 12.
A Lake Huron zone bantam houseleague tourney is set for
March 16 and 17 and the following weekend March 23 and 24 figure
skaters from the Exeter, Parkhill and Zurich clubs will be taking
part in tests.
The South Huron rec tournament is expected to be bigger and
better this year with 32 teams in competition. Games will be held
at the South Huron Rec Centre and the Stephen township arena
at Huron Park on April 4, 5 and 6 with the finals in Exeter on April 7.
Each team -will be assured of at least three games. Cam
Stewardson of the Rec Centre who is organizing the event along
with Frank Funstoq at the Stephen arena says there is a lot of in-
terest because by that time most leagues have been completed and
the players want to get one last crack at their favourite sport before
spring takes over.
The ice at the South Huron Rec Centre is reserved each Fri-
day morning from nine until eleven o'clock for shinny hockey. For
anyone having a few spare hours and wanting to get some leisure-
ly exercise this is a great opportunity. About 20 have been turning
out for recent sessions and play in pickup teams fashion. The fee
is three dollars for each person.
For area mothers Land fathers are not excluded) the popular
moms and tots skating sessions continue each Tuesday and Thurs-
day from 10 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 2 p.m. There is no charge for these
outings.
