Pee wees advance in OMHA playoffs, bantams, midgets out
One Exeter team has advanced to
the first round of Ontario Minor
Hockey Association playoffs while
two others have been ousted.
The Exeter pee wees scored two
straight wins over Lambeth by scores
of 5-4 and 7-1. They now meet Forest
in the second round of OMNA play
with the first game tonight, Wednes-
day at the South Iluron Rec Centre at
6:30 p.m.
In the bantam division Lambeth
eliminated Exeter in two straight con-
tests by scores of 5-1 and 4-0.
The Exeter midgets were knocked
out of ()MBA competition by
Lambeth in two straight games by
scores of 9-2 and 9-5.
It was Rob McLelland's fourth goal
Irish edge
Thamesford
The Lucan Irish edged the
Thamesford Trojans 4-3 at the Lucan
arena Wednesday night in their only
start of the week in the OHA Western
Junior "D" hockey loop,
A Friday night trip to Tavistock to
meet the Braves was postponed
because of stormy weather.
The Irish were in Seaforth last
night, Tuesday to meet the
Centenaires and will be at home
tonight, Wednesday at the Lucan
arena at 8:15 p.m. to meet the
Thamesford Trojans.
Against Thamesford, the Irish took
a 2-0 first period lead and were never
headed.
Captain Rob Thirlwall opened the
Lucan scoring on an unassisted effort
at 14;37 and two minutes later Rob
Stanfield hit the Thamesford net on a
- three-way passing effort with Steve
Keane and Jesse Crawford.
The only Irish goal of the second
period carne from the stick of Scott
Gilder on passes from Wayne Urb-
shott and Brent Martin.
The Lucan scoring was wrapped up
in the third as Brent Martin
registered on a short-handed effort
with Wayne Urbshott and Mark Ban-
non providing the necessary passes.
Scoring for Thamesford were Rob
Therkildson, Steve McLeod and Rick
Arts.
Waxers split
in Shamrock
In Shamrock league play in the
novice division this week, the Exeter
Waxers gained an even split. They
edged Parkhill 3 Lan
• o rat roy.
Captain Sean McCann with a two
goal effort led the Waxers scoring at-
tack in the win over Parkhill. The
other goal was notched by Ian Jean.
Assisting were Rob Wagner, Ted
Hoffman, Matt Godbolt and Marty
DeBruyn.
in the loss to Strathroy. Ted Hoff-
man and Marty DeBruyn were the
Waxers marksmen on passes from
Matt Godbolt, Jamie van Dam and
ian Jean.

CRUNCHERS WIN
The Exeter Crunchers scored an
impressive 5-0 victory Saturday over
Mitchell in an atom houseleague
hockey game.
Brent Miron and Jeremy Brock led
the Crunchers with two goal perfor-
mances. Scoring the odd goal was
Brian inch. Allan McF'alls led the Ex-
eter playmakers with a pair of
assists. Helping in single fashion were
Brian inch, Tony Armstrong, Mark
McDonald and Brent Mir'on. Jamie
Rolph turned in an excellent effort in
goal to gain the shutout.
Molting Hawks
go scoreless
Playing a complete game of hockey
without scoring a goal would certainly
spell defeat for most learns. But,
that's not what happened to the Ex-
eter Molting Hawks, Sunday morning
at the South Huron Rec ('entre.
The Molting Hawks and the Sarnia
1/1d Oilers played to a scoreless tie in
an oldliniers exhibition game.
Monday night, the local oldtimers
regained their scoring prowees and
skated to 7-5 victory over the
Lanibet h Blues.
The Hawks finding themselves
behind by 5-2 early in the third period
responded with five unanswered goals
to pull out the victory.
The first Iwo scores for the Molting
Ilawks came late in the second period
from the sticks of ,Jack ('hipchase and
.lira Russell. Assisting were Keith
Ahrens. ,Lim MacDonald. Bob
.McDonald and ('hipchase
-With Tess than 12 minutes to go the
scoring machine swung into high
gear .tack ('hipchase counted on an
unassisted effort. Bob .Jones con-
verted a pass from Keith Ahrens and
Eric I•'rnkbeiner notched the tying
goal on a pass from Ahrens.
With slightly more than three
minutes to go Bill I'incomhe
registered what proved to be the win-
ning goal with Walt Tiedeman and
Jim Pfaff assisting
Bob ,bines cashed in his second suc-
cessful shot of the night with only 39
seconds to go with .lack ('hipchase
and Keith Ahrens assisting

of the game with only 14 seconds re-
maining in the third period that allow-
ed Exeter to edge Lambeth 5-4 in the
first pee wee playoff contest.
The first period scoring was even
with both clubs counting twice. For
Exeter Rob McLelland registered on
a solo dash and Dave Dalrymple
tallied on a three-way combination
with Jamie Bedard and McLelland.
Lambeth scored two goals in the
middle frame while Rob McLelland
notched the only Exeter score as he
converted a pass from Jamie Bedard.
Late in the third period with
Lambeth ahead by a single goal,
McLelland took over in a scoring way.
He hit with four minutes left on a pass
from Mark Burton and fired the win-
ner with time running out. Al Blom-
maer•t assisted on the winning goal.
In the second game of the best -of -
three series Jason Hern and Harden
Tinney led the Exeter marksmen with
two goals apiece. Captain Dave
O'Connor assisted on both of the
scores by Bern and Jim Ahrens
helped on one. Assisting on the goals
by'I'inney were Rob McLelland, Jim
Ahrens and Dave O'Connor.
The other Exeter goals came from
the sticks of Tim van Dam, Dave
O'Connor and Mark Burton. Jing
Ahrens picked up two additional
assists for a game total of four and
van Dam and O'Connor helped on one
of the final three goals.
In regular Shamrock league play,
the Exeter pee wees played to a 4-4 tie
with Lucan and edged Parkhill 6-4.
Against Lucan, Rob McLelland
wok care of all of the Exeter scoring.
Jamie Bedard and Mark Burton each
assisted on two goals and Allan Blom-
maert picked up the other assist.
Brad Hirtzel led the Lucan scorers
with a two goal effort while Paul
Manders and Brett Revington scored
in single fashion. Revington picked up
two assists and Manders, Scott Amps
and Steven Nixon each assisted on
one score.
In the victory over Parkhill, 'Todd
McCann was the top Exeter goal get-
ter with two to his credit. Notching
single scores were Harden Tinney,

Jamie Bedard and Justin Charrette
were the only pee wees to get two
assists. Helping on one goal apiece
were Rob McLelland, David O'Con-
nor, Mark Burton, David Dalrymple
and Todd McCann.
Bantams lose
The only goal for Exeter in the
opening playoff loss to Lambeth came
from the stick of Shawn Moore on a
three-way passing combination with
Team Circus
in racing action
Team Circus members travelled to
Seaforth for a drag racing competi-
tion January 19 in the afternoon.
Brian Eickmeier got a first place
finish in both B and C stock and a
third place finish in A stock for a
satisfying day.
That same evening there had been
a sno-cross competition scheduled for
Mitchell. Despite the weather most
managed to get there andcompeteon
the well-designed track. Thanks to the
Mitchell Kinsmen and C.R.C.
productions.
Again, the attendance was good and
all team members thought the track
wa.s excellent. Brian Eickmeier got a
second in sport five and six, as well
as a second in the pro -open class to
finish with a score of 36 and win the
high over -a11 points trophy.
Due to the weather Hully Gully's
sno-cross scheduled for that Sunday
was cancelled and has since been re-
set for Sunday, March 3.
Rob Baxter, Wayne Henderson and
Brian Eickmeier travelled north to
another sno-cross competition spon-
sored by the O.S.R.F. at Minden, on
January 26. This is on a natural track
with lots of hills and turns, as well as
a few jumps.
Brian Eickmeier finished first in
sport six and seven, also giving a good
showing in the expept class to finish
fourth. After leading the pro class for
three laps, he was unable to hold his
lead and finished fifth.
Sunday, January 27, team
members went to Wyoming, for a
drag racing competition.
Brenda Bell finished fourth in the
open liquid cooled class and Rob Bax-
ter finished second in the free air
class.
There is. drag racing in Listowel
next Saturday, February 2.

ly two Exeter bantams to fire two suc-
cessful shots. Scoring in single fashion
were Steve Anderson, Doug Clark and
Steve Lingard. Doug Clark was the
most proficient playmaker with three
assists to his credit. Jeff Hannah and
Steve Anderson each assisted on two
goals while single assists went to
Midgets out
In Friday's loss in Lambeth. Bryan
Quinn, Bill Lessard and captain Terry
Zachar were the Exeter marksmen.
Paul Mellecke drew a pair of assists
and Jim Lewis and Bryan Quinn each
helped on one goal.
Scoring was well spread around in
Saturday's 9-5 defeat in Exeter with
Jon O'Connor, Bill Lessard, Tim
Moore, Jim Lewis and Bryan Quinn
scoring in single fashion.
Jim Lewis was the top assister with
three. Paul Mellecke and 13i11 Lessard
added two apiece and Jon O'Connor.
Mark Morrissey and Steve Pym gain-
ed single assists.
