Dave Bogart isplayingassistant coach at Universityof Ohio
Another Exeter native is playing university hockey in the
United States this season.
After getting a degree in Sports Administration and Physical
Education at Wilfred Laurier University in Waterloo, Dave Bogart
has moved on to Ohio.
For this term he is an assistant playing coach at Ohio Univer-
sity in Athens, Ohio while studying for his Masters degree.
Bogart is combining with Marlen Muylaert of Strathroy in the
coaching duties which include administration of the team and
arena:
In a recent club tournament at Penn State University, Dave
Bogart was the scoring star for his team and was named a tour-
nament all star.
Last call to Dinner
This is the last chance for area sports fans to get their tickets
for the 12th annual Exeter Lions Sportsmen's Dinner.
We have been fortunate enough to be able to attend all 11 of
the popular events to date and they continue to be very enjoyable
and entertaining.
In several instances, one of the lesser known personalities have
turned out to be very successful.
'This year may be no exception, as we expect the appearance
of London Knights Brian Bradley and Jim Sandlack to prove
popular especially to the younger generation.
E

Bradley and Sandlack were very valuable members of the
Canadian junior hockey team which recently won the world cham-
pionship in Finland.
For the large number of ladies who usually attend the dinner
they should be interested in two well known female athletes. They
are golfer Sandra Post and long distance swimmer Cindy Nicholas.

Other guests expected are Blue Jays vice-president Pat Gillick,
Jack Morris of the Detroit Tigers, Gary Danielson of the Detroit
Lions, CFL Commissioner Doug Mitchell, race car driver Jacques
Villeneuve and sports fisherman and outdoors
broadcaster Bob Izame.
With all proceeds going to the support of crippled children this
is a worthwhile event to attend in more ways than one.

HAWKS LOSS STREAK AT SIX
The Exeter Hawks had little dif-
ficulty continuing their losing streak
this week as they came up with two
more uninspiring efforts to extend
their losing skid to six games.
The southern division leading Bel-
mont Bombers handed the locals their
worst drubbing of the season at the
rec centre, Friday, skating away with
a 14-3 triumph.
Returning to the scene of that
disaster on Sunday, the Hawks
weren't able to show much improve-
ment as they were drubbed 8-2 by the
Seaforth Centenaires.
Tonight (Wednesday) the Hawks
head to Lucan for their final league
encounter with the Irish and then host
Mitchell at the rec centre, Friday.
That latter game should help the
locals get back into the win column as
their namesakes are languishing in
the loop basement.
The busy week continued on Satur-
day when the Exeter crew head to
Tavistock for a contest with the nor-
thern division leading Braves.
Scoring on one out of every three
shots they had on a due of Exeter net -
minders, the Belmont crew showed
little mercy towards the Hawks as
they scored what may have been a
record number of goals against a
local squad.
The visitors started the rampage at
the mid -way mark of the first stanza
and were leading 3-0 at the end of the
first and then scored seven more in
the second and four in the third.
Kevin Oke faced the barrage
through most of the game and was
replaced briefly in the second by
Peter Dearing who managed only two
saves on five shots.
Three teams score four
In Friday's regular play of the Ex-
eter Legion mixed dart league, the
Turtles, Scotties and Swat teams each
scored four points.
This week's scores were:
Turtles 4 Shiphunters 1
Scotties 4 Lost Flights 1
Swat 4 Outlaws 1
Trailers 3 A_Tea_ m
in - e amily 2
Odd Ones 3 OIIie's Best 2
Snyde and Clyde 3 Itchy Niters 2
Friday's schedule is as follows:
8 p.m.
Canscotts vs Trailers
A -Team vs 4 -W's
Outlaws vs Scotties
Lost Flights vs Shiphunters
9:30 p.m.
Itchy Niters vs Smurfs
Odd Ones vs Swat
Turtles vs 011ie's Best
The duo ended up with 31 saves,
while Dave Brown had 26 for the
Bombers.
Scott Brintnell fired two goals foj
the locals, while rightwinger Brian
Horner added the single and drew
assists on the other two tallies. Steve
Batten and Jeff Pfaff picked up one
assist each.
The Hawks sat out seven minor
penalities and gave up four powerplay
efforts. The Bombers also scored
while playing short-handed.
In Sunday's contest, the visiting
Seaforth Centenaires scored four
unanswered goals in the first period
and then coasted to their 8-3 victory.
The second place norther division
squad scored at the 1:40 mark on a
powerplay and then added one more
powerplay goal, one short-handed ef-
fort and an even strength one as they
chased starting netminder Jason Van
Haarlem to the bench.
Pete Dearing took over the chores
and allowed the other four goals in the
two final periods.
Brian Horner continued his
playmaking spree as he drewan
assist on all three Exeter goals. They
were scored by Ted Hodgins, Jeff
Rowe and Dave Skea. Skea also add-
ed one assist.

manage only 25 shots
on net in the game, despite the fact
the visitors took 13 of the 22 minor
penalties called.
Dearing finished the game with 30
saves while Van Haarleln recorded
seven.

a crippled child. See you at the dinner on Tuesday, February 5 at
the South Huron Rec Centre.
A busy fellow
Pat Gillick, vice-president of the Toronto Blue Jays and a guest
at Tuesday's Sportsmen's Dinner has been very busy in recent
weeks'trying to improve his club for the 1985 season.
Many fans will question whether Gillick was able to get full
value in return for the loss of Cliff Johnston, Alfredo Griffin, Dave
Collins and Jim Gott.
Gillick has yet to be successful in signing free agent relief pit-
cher Bill Caudill and it is expected the case may go to arbitration.
If Caudill isn't signed, it would be the biggest blunder the Jays
ever made. The pitching staff must be better to offset the loss of
the bats of Johnston and Collins.
The Jays bullpen is bound to be much better with the addition
of Tom Henke and Gary Lavelle. The latter obtained in a trade
for Jim Gott had 12 saves last year and an ERA of 2.76. Henke was
picked up in the Compensation draft.
The only new Blue Jay that is not a pitcher is veteran
designated hitter Jeff Burroughs.
Stars win
In case some of our readers missed the result of Friday's ex-
hibition game in Toronto between an NHL oldtimer all star team
and 'Team Canada of 1971, the stars won by a score of 7-6.
GAY LEA BONSPIEL WINNERS — A rink skipped by Bill Rowe won the first draw of Sunday's Gay Lea
sponsored mixed curling bonspiel at the Exeter dub. Above, Gay Lea district director John Campbell
presents the trophy to Bill Rowe, Liz and Jim Bell and Audrey Rowe.

Tykes gain
third victory
The Exeter tykes ran their winning
streak to three in a row by edging
Huron Park 1-0 and defeating flensall

The Tykes owe their 1-0 win over
Huron Park to the generosity of coach
Bob Parsons line up a week ago Fri-
day. The only scoring in the closely
played contest came from Jeff
,Sararas in the late part of the first
period. Each team exchanged several
chances all of which were voided by
good goal tending at both ends.
Saturday the Hensall tykes made
their second start of the season
against the locals.
Exeter started quickly with three
goals in succession from Ryan Soldan
then singles by Jeff Sararas and Bil-
ly Parker for a 5-0 first period lead.
In the second Billy Parker, Scott In -
sin and Robbie Lynn made it 8-0.

pair from Mark Bell to cut the lead to
8-4.

Exeter for the 9-4 win.
The Tykes journey to Zurich on
February 16 for a return match and
to Hensall. February 23 for the same
purpose.
