Controversy
e_s
Selection of players to represent the
Exeter Hawks in Saturday's all-star
game in Lucan is causing some rift
between local players and executive
mginbers. `
Foregoing previous practices
whereby the all-star selections were
made by the players. the executive
voted on this year's representatives.
The controversy appears to centre
mainly on the fact perennial team and
league all-star Bill Glover was not
selected this year.
Gord Kirk. president of the Exeter
and Area Junior Hawks Association.
said some of the executive members
felt they should be given some say in
the matter as they are responsible for
fund-raising and other team matters.
He added that some felt that
because Glover has been on the nor-
thern division all-star team for the
past four years. other players should
be given a chance to play in the event
as well.
In addition, not everyone has been
enamored with Glover's play in the
last few games when he has taken
some questionable penalties that have
offset his contribution while on the
ice. He was benched for a time follow
ing one major penalty in a recoil
game.
•The players had a meeting last
night )Tuesday) to discuss the mat
ter with the coaches and manager.
"i don't know what will become of
it." Kirk said. lamenting the fact the
controversy has arisen.
