Former neighbours of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Miller, who have recently moved to Egmondville, gathered at their home on Tuesday even- ing to wish Alex and Hannah well in their new home and present them with a parting gift. Meet The Education and Cultural Activities conveners, Joyce Vivian and Roberta Templeman hosted the Christmas meeting of the Staffa Womens' Institute on Dec. 19 in the township hall, A reci ation "Welcome everyone" was given in costume by Verle Mahon and Joyce . Vivian to open. the Wearing elfs cap, Roberta Templeman read a letter from Santa to Florence McPhail and presented her with a life membership in Staffa Women's Institute. Kay Smale pinned on her life membership pin. Florence was a charter member of Glen Gowrie Womens' In- stitute until joining Staffa, so Glen Gowrie members were , guests for the afternoon With Christmas music play- ing softly in the background, Eva Laing, Cromarty, displayed her paintings and sketchings and told about the different types of painting and what all was involved. Eva was introduced by Roberta and thanked by Joyce. Lois Benneires, Brodhgagen, displayed many items of Calligraphy, which included wedding invitations, Christmas cards etc. in beautiful script writing. T -A photo Granton WI meets Sy MRS. E. SUMMERS The Granton W.I. met at the home of Mrs. Hamilton Hodgins for their Christmas meeting on December 13. Everyone contributed to the smorgasbord supper. Following the meal, a short business meeting chaired by Mrs. Muriel Lewis was held, followed by the singing of carols. All members took part in the program with readings and poems pertaining to Christmas. The remainder of the time was taken up by making favors to be given to nursing home patients. Forester news Court Valentine Canadian Foresters met at the Lion's club hall on December 18, for their Christmas party. Bruce Pierce was in charge of the worship for the last Sunday of the year and entitled his sermon "What would you like in 1985?". Bruce Pierce in appreciation for all that he had contributed to the congregation and the church since becoming minister at Granton. Then saying that Mrs. Pierce would put what he had said in a more flowery way, Leroy ask- ed Jackie to come up to the front of the church. where she read a poem she had written as a tribute to her husband. Personals The service was withdrawn at St. Thomas Anglican church on Sunday morning in order that the congregation could join in worship with St. Paul's Anglican Church, Kirkton. Sincere sympathy is ex- tended to the family of the late Earle Middleton who passed away suddenly at Kingsway Lodge Nursing Home St. Marys on Saturday December 29. Funeral service was held on Monday December 31 with Rev. Bruce Pierce officiating assisted by Rev. Elwood Morden of Hamilton. Inter- ment in Birr Cemetery.
