He told the children a story by lighting the fourth candle in the Ad- vent Wreath. The first one was the Prophecy Candle, the second was Shepherd Candle, the third one the Bethlehem Candle and the fourth one the Angels Candle. . The choir sang two numbers "Let Earth Receive Her King" and "Noel We Sing". The Scripture Lesson was read from 2 Samuel 7:1-5, 7-16, Romans 16:25-27, Luke 1:26-38. The sermon was entitled "King Without A Home". David feels guilty God has no home on earth - wants to build -a Temple.Nathan pro- mises God is going to give David a legacy far beyond the greatest imaginings. David is reminded of his own humble beginnings. David's heir is going to be God's Son. We, during Ad- vent, look for the David who is yet to come. (Nathan was the one to con- sult when you wanted to know the will of God). The Ark of the Covenant had to dwell in the Tent of Meetin - a place of low status while David had more status living in a palace. David sensed the two roles had become reversed. Rev. Robert Matheson spoke a minute for Mission entitled "Crisis: Critical Care Unit". The church service closed with the singing of Go Tell It On the Mountain. The Christmas Eve Service on Monday evening at Elim- ville Church was very well at- _ tended. The C.G.I.T. Girls and their leader Mrs. Murray Dawson assisted with the ser- vice. He told the chiln a story entitl- ed "How WHY Candles". The choir sang "The Norwegian Carol". The sermon was en-- titled n=titled "Jesus - Our Growing Edge". The promise is repeated that God has something wonderful in store for the remnant of those who believe in Him. Christ the pioneer of human salvation - our brother who allowed himself to be broken for our sake. - came to deliver us from fear and human bon- dage - Jesus is in solidarity with God's creation - com- plete solidarity. Rev. Matheson spoke on a minute for Mission entitled 'Mission In the Urban Core'. Next Sunday, January 6, Sunday School will com- mence at 10 a.m. and church service at 11:15 p.m. The January meeting of the United Church Women will be held Monday, January 7 at 8 p.m. The installation of Of- ficers for 1985 will take place. Prior to the meal, eight tables of euchre were at play in the townhall. Hannah Clark, Marjorie Davidson, Sybil Stephenson, Gordon Stewart, Margaret Carter, and Belle Stevenson were prize winners. With Mrs. Jack Trevethick at the piano, several Christmas carols were sung. HEBER DAVIS The Christmas A.G.W. meeting was held at the home of Hazel Davis with president Marguerite Greenlee in the chair. She called the meeting to order and thanked all the members for their help in the many projects they sponsored during 1984. All took part in the members prayer - scripture was read by Nadine Bedell, all joined in a Christmas hynms. Nadine conducted a, contest on a tray covered with articles we use at Christmas. The roll call was a donation to the hunger Ethiopian fund. The hostess assisted by her daughter Heather MacGillivray served a dain- ty lunch. An exchange of Christmas gifts followed from under a beautiful decorated tree. The January meeting is planned to be held at the home of Marguerite Greenlee, January 8 at 8 o'clock. Rev. Peter Derrick spoke briefly to the group and closed the meeting with prayer. This' community observes. Christmas eve Communion. Rev. Peter Derrick was in charge. Tile children all carried lighted tapers and lit the adults tapers as they pro- ceeded up the aisle. Following the service many families gathered also Christmas day.
