CGIT conduct UC service The United Church was filled on Sunday morning for the Christmas Sunday Service. "Who is On- Our Doorstep this Christmas": was Mr.. A Ic)onald's message. The service opened with the singing of Christmas Carols and the Senior Choir sang,"In Bethlehem" by H. Hill and "Let Earth Receive Her King" by Roger C. Wilson. The Junior Choir sang an Iroquois Lullaby called "Ho,Ho. Wantenay• and "At Christmas Time". .Lloyd Ferguson greeted the .con- greatatron and Ron Riley,.Paul Alex- ander. Lorne Gackstetter and Jim Parsons were the ushers. The flowers at the front of the church were placed in loving memory of Florence r Welsh r Joynt. Taking part in the Candlelighting and prayers were Dorothy Brintnell, Starr Jesney and Susan Stephens. The members of the C.G.LT. also took part in the Prayer of Commitment and Candlelighting. Joyce Pepper was•pianist for the service and Mary Taylor. Kerri-Sue Kyle and Mindy Bell were the soloists for the service. The congregation will long remember this very impressive candlelighting service. Following the service everyone en- joyed hot cider and cookies in the fellowship hall. Christian School hosts annual party On December 6. the students, teachers and pre-schoolers at the Clinton and District Christian School held their annual December party with many -parents present. The theme of this year's party was "Let's Celebrate Books." All classes filed into the school's gymnasium. Here they found themselves surrounded by hundreds of posters displayed on the walls. These posters were the result of a con- test held earlier in which each student portrayed a character from a favorite book. The book theme was further.car-. ried•.out in the appearance of the students. Each had arrived in the 4norning dressed in a costume _por- traying a character from a book. Throughout the gym one saw animals of every kind. There were dogs, cats, mice and monkeys. Even Dr. Doolit- tle had graced the party with his presence. . Also present were Sherlock Holmes, Aladdin, Old Mother Hub- bard, Cinderella and her two step- sisters along wither multitude of other well known personalities. The pupils were welcomed by a long-eared bunny ra teacher. Mr. Bost who- complimented all the students on their. very -enthusiastic participation in both the -poster and the costume contest. He welcomed - Laury Erb who took advantage of the day's assembly in order to hand out a- number of awards relating to the "Pro -Life Walk-a-thon'. Trophies were presented to Trevpr ' and Kevin Schilthuis for doing the distance in the shortest time. Coralie Dykstra received the trophy for being. the youngest, walker. As ,kvell, the school received the trophy for "Best Participation;:. With these presentations complete. the students sat back with popcorn to enjoy the animatedWalt Disneyfilm, Jungle -Book. - • At intermission, prizes were hand- ed out to several students judged to have the best costumes: Kindergarten, .Matthew Brooks, Care Bear; Grade 1, Bernard Ten -Pas, Lit- tle Boy Blue; Grade 2, Joseph Boland, Tin Man; Grade 3, Sandra Vanderlaan, Mary- Poppins; ,Grade 4/5, Carolyn, Jongejan, Aladdin; Grade 5/6. Ben Dykstra, Tin Man; Grade 7. Dawn Ten Pas, Jeanette; Grade '8, Jeremy Jongejan, Robin Hood and Ingeborg Van Eeden, Missy. Prizes were given for best posters and when that was completed, drinks and snacks were'handed out and the reminder of the film was shown. At 2:30 p.m. pupils returned to their 'classrooms where first term reports S- ' were handed out, desks were clean - d up, and pupils were dismissed for - the weekend- hopefully stimulated to read some more good books. Councillor Davis sworn in Councillor Irene Davis was official- Iy.inaugurated as a member of Hen- sall Council on Thursday, December 19 at the Exeter Hospital. Clerk Bet- ty Oke gave Mrs. Davis her declara- tion of office and took her oath of allegiance. Also present was peeve Jim Robinson who was on hand to_be sure all his flock were gathered in. Councillor Davis anticipates being back in action shortly:. Ministry of Township of Tuckersmith The residents of the township of Tuckersmith are requested by the council not to park cars on township roods dur- ing the winter months in order to facilitate snowplow- ing operations. Council will not be responsi- ble for damage to any vehi- cle_ parked on roods or streets. Council also requests that thb residents of the Township of Tuckersmith do not push or dump snow on township roads. With him are Jessie Comeron (left), co -convener of the draw. and Lillian Beer, treasurer. Wilma Dalrymple won the twin Cabbage Patch dolls. Joe Miller won second prize of -$30 and Bob Harmon won 520. Afterwards•e shared tea and -coffee with a snack. On Tuesday, Shirley Luther per- tormed our Church Service for us. Lorne Johnston from the Rest Home lit the Advent Candles for the service. On Tuesday evening we had the pleasure of hearing the St. Boniface Folk "Choir. Everyone agreed that they *ere very good! - Asa Deeves. from the Rest Home gavel randy canes to all of the choir, me hers on behalf .of all, the residents. Later that evening the Lakeview Youth Group came in and sang in the h<alis for us. It was very nice to- just relax and listen to them sing before retiring for the night. On' Thursday afternoon our' film presentation was. "The Amazing / Mountain Goats". It was very in= leresting and everyone enjoyed it. Thursday evening was our residents' Christmas Party. it was a greafsuc- cess! The Queensway Choir sang for us to start the evening off. More musical entertainment was provided by George Mathonia on 'the accor- dian, Nelson 1 -Powe on the fiddle. and Ivan Norris on the banjo. We always enjoy ourselves when these fellows come in to'entertajn us! Our guest of honour was. Santa 111441Lt.7‘41W /0/Witt 411V. 414 Ink fleboard on Thursday afternoon. High scores were Walter Spencer with 266. Alf Ross 248. John Pepper 241 and Pearl - McKnight with 240. The next shuffleboard will be on Thursday, January 9 with everyone weliome at 1:30 p.m. Northcrest News A delicious Christmas dinner was held on Thursday evening. December 19 at Northcrest Lounge for - the tenants. Everyone wishes Irene Davis a speedy recovery. ' The Northcrest tenants Would like to welcome Drew Fowler who moved in last week. Joe McLellan has returned from Victoria Hospital. Welcome back. Hensall Bantams The Hensall bantams managed to tie with Zurich on December 18. Hen,' salt opened the scoring in the first period with Brian Moir assisted by Jim Dickens and Andy Philips. Rob Taylor assisted by Steve McCullough scored with one minute left in the first to put Hensall ahead by 2. Hensall's Scott Bell assisted by - Taylor and .-McCullough put-Hensall- ahead by three at the mid point oI the second period. Zurich got their first goal with 53 seconds left in (he period. Hensall opened the scoring -in the third with a goal from McCullough assited by Taylor. The Hensall boys, feeling over confident. let their guard down and Zurich took advantage and scored four goals to tie then go ahead in 'the game, with spectators for both teams going wild. It looked like Zurich would pull off the win when Bell. assisted by Taylor. popped in the / tying marker with less than a minute left. The boys will. be playing at the Zurich Tournament during Christmas hglidays. Their next league game will be January 8 when. they host Huroh Park at 8.:30 p.m. • .Library draw Hensall Library held their Christmas Draw on Saturday.. December 21.
