Irish pick up three more points
The Lucan Irish picked up three of
a possible four points this week and
continue in first place in the OHA
Western Junior 'D' southern
grouping.
The Irish held to a 5-5 Wednesday
tie by the Belmont Bombers and Fri-
day in Clinton they registered an 8-3
victory over the Nfustangs.
The only holiday action for the Irish
will be Saturday night at 8:15 p.m. at
- the Lucan Community Centre when
the Exeter Hawks provide the opposi-
tion. Minor hockey week will be
observed at this game.

Against Clinton Friday night the
Irish wasted little time in getting on
the scoreboard with four successful
shots in the.first period.
Paul Foran was the first t4 hit the
Clinton net on a power play attempt
at 8.04 on passes from Brad Muir and
Grant Larsen. -
Paul Barnes converted a pass from
Dean Doerr, only a minute later"also
on a powerplay and the newest
member of the team made it 3-0 with
assists going to Brad Muir and Jeff
Hodgins.
With only 31 seconds left in the
opening session Grant Larsenscored
again, this time with the Irish play-
ing a man short.
Early in the second 20 minutes of
play, Larsen completed a hat trick ef-
fort again shorthanded on a play
started by Brad. Muir and Dean
Schram.

Craig counted on passes from Paul
Barnes and Brent Martin and the lat-
ter converted a pass from Jesse
Crawford.
With 51 seconds left in the game
Jesse Crawford notched the final
Lucan score on a pass from Al Craig.
Shawn Van Bongen scored twice for
Clinton and Randy Marriage fired the
third goal.
Belmont comes back
In Lucan Wednesday, John Ebert
scored for Belmont in the last two
minutes of play with his own net emp-
ty to get the 5-5 tie.
Grant Larsen scored both Lucan
goals in the first period. A shorthand-
ed score came on a pass from Brad
Muir and Paul Foran got the assist on
a power play.
In the second period, Dean Doerr
converted a pass from Brad Muir
while playing a man short and Bob
Thirlwall counted from Wayne
Urbshott.
Richard Clarke led Belmont with
two goals.
Win contest
Students living in the South Huron
area were invited to enter a slogan
'4• contest sponsored by the South Huron
and District Association for the Men-
tally Handicapped.
The subject of the slogan was
prevention of birth defects caused by
a pregenant women's consumption of
alcohol.
Terry .Humphreys of Exeter won
first prize. His slogan is "Something
to think about". If you want your baby
to be normal like every good mother
would, Think before you drink for
both your sakes.
Current research indicates some of
the effects on the baby of a woman
who drank alcohol during her
pregnancy are mental retardation,
hyperactivity, and behaviour and
learning disorders.
The Committee for Public Educa-
tion an awareness of the South Huron
Association for the Mentally Han-
dicapped are grateful to Bruce Shaw
and others who helped promote this

Twas Two Days

Once upon a time there lived a
reindeer named Rudolph. He livedAn
a little hole in the side of a snowdrift.
One day his friend came over. He ask-
ed him if he would out and play with
him. Rudolph put on his hat and went
out.
They wandered far away. Soon they
were lost. They tried to find their way
back but they couldn't! Then they
heard a huge thump. It was the dread-
ed snow monster of the North. They
ran as fast as they could go. Then they

win two Rec games
The Toting and TRestless were the
top team in the Exeter and district
men's rec hockey league this week
with a pair of victories.
In two high scoring contests they
trounced the Exeter Inn 11-5 and won
10-7 over the Outlaws. In other games,
Colonial Hotel downed Pfaff Electric
7-2 and Algoma Tire bested the
Whalers 10-5.
David Athill led the' -Young and
Restless scoring against Exeter Inn
with a hat Brick performance. Jim
Rolph checked in with two goals and
scoring in single fashion were Brian
Taylor, • Scott Pincombe, Gary
Sararas, Doug Geoffrey and Tom
Steeper. The Inn goal scorers were
John Coleman, Morley Obre, Steve
Lightfoot, Dave Sereda and Dave
Prance.
In the win over the Outlaws, Gary
Sararas was the top marksman with
a three goal effort. Brian Taylor and
Glenn Thurman each registered two
scores and single goals were fired by
David Atthill, Barry Mills and Dave
Prout. Jamie Caldwell scored three
times for the Whalers. Getting one
each were Randy Parker. Terry
Pee wees win
over St. Marys
In a Wednesday Shamrock league
game, the Exeter pee wees defeated
St. Marys by a score of 3-1.
After spotting St. Marys an early
second period score, the locals bounc-
ed back with three unanswered goals.
Mark Burton converted a pass from
Steve DuBarry to tie the score and
Haden Tinney registered what prov-
ed to be the winning tally on an
unassisted effort.
The insurance,marker came from
the stick of Steve DuBarry on a pass
from David Schwindt.
In 16 games, the pee wees have 11
victories, four losses and•one tie. They
have scored 74 times while goalie
Scott Russell has allowed 46 goals for
an average of 2.8.

Shuffleboard
• The shuffleboard players were back
at full strength with three competi-
tions at the South Huron Rec Centre
this week.
Beatrice Richardson and Jean
Hern were the Tuesday winners with
identical scores of 324. Next came
Wilma Davis 290, Albert Hummell 283
and Harold Davis 262.
A score of 361 allowed Rena Ross to
capture'Wednesday's play. She was'
followed by Alva Heywood 319,
Mildred Thomson 307, Ross Marshall
308 and Iva Blair 298.
Thursday's champ was Marshall
Dearing with a score of 412. Then
came Lloyd Lovell 397, Meine
Eizenga 384, Charlie Hendy 324 and
John Eberle 319.

jumped behind a hill of snow.
The snow monster walked right by
them. Then they went on. It was get-
ting late. Then they saw a cave. They
spent the night there. The next day
the set off again, but back at the
village, Santa was worried. Rudolph
had to lead the sleigh tonight.
He couldn't cancel Christmas. That
would be terrible. Santa got the team
and set off. Soon he saw something.
It was Rudolph's nose. He raced to
them. They hopped in and went back
to the village. Oh, and that night
Christmas went just as planned!

Gerald Weido's three goals were
best for Algoma Tire in their triumph
over the • Whalers. Jim Jean was a
double goal getter and singles were
notched by Larry Skinner, Dale Skin-
ner, Al Parsons, Jamie Gaul and Ed
Kerslake. Jeff Musser scored two for
the losers. Adding singles were Dave
-Bell, Dave Hayter and Rick Gilfillan.
A three goal effort by Pete Tuckey
led the Colonials to a victory over
Pfaff's. Cam Haist, Scott Burton, Dan
Stanlake and Ken Bergmann scored
in single fashion.
The Outlaws won the championship
of a tournament in Bayfield on the
weekend as Jamie Caldwell scored all
six goals in a 6-2 final win over Lucan.
