Christmas in 1810
by Daniel Lamport
(;rade 3. Hensall Y.S.
One day 1 went to my mom and ask-
ed her if there was anything for me
to do. She sdid."Yes, there is.Why
don't you go decorate the tree. Then
when father gets home. you can go
pile the wood."
Then 1 went to do it. Priscilla. my
sister-, went and asked mom what she
could do. Mom said to her,"Why don't
you go carolling?" Priscilla
said,"OK." then she went to do it.
When dad got home. I went to pile
the wood. When Priscilla got home
she had to make some Wassail. Dad
started on one the toys for Priscilla.
It was a little toy truck.
Mom was working on a doll for
Priscilla. too. Two days later, it was
Christmas Eve. We hung our stock-
ings and went to bed. Mom was still
working on that doll for Priscilla. She
already had mine done.
Then she went to bed. All dad had
to do is feed the horses and get the
carriage ready to go to Grandma's
tomorrow.
At midnight, I heard something on
the roof. I was sure it was' Santa
because he is the only one who has
reindeer foot hooves. There I heard
someone slide. down the chimney. It
was Santa!
He was singing "Away in the
Manger" while he was putting the
gifts under the tree. In the morning,
I was the first one up. I looked in my
stocking first. I saw oranges and ap-
ples and nuts.
Then at the bottom of my stocking,
I saw something black. It was a box.
Iri the ba was a girl standing by her
Christmas tree and presents all
around it. It was glass. I went yelling

to mom and asked her if she gave it
to me.
She said, "No." When everybody
got up we all opened the presents. I got
a doll and some mitens, earmuffs.
too. Priscilla got the same thing.
After we opened the presents we got
ready to go the Grandma's. Dad went
outside to the carriage and hooked the
horses to the carriage. When we got
there Grandma said," Well, the dinner
is finished, so 1 guess we can sit down
now and eat it."
We were having turkey. potatoes.
and corn, peas, stuffing and bread.
When we got home we had to take the
Christmas tree out and burn it 11 had
to do that! ). We went to bed after. In
the morning I got up and started to
play with my doll.
Then Dad got up and went out to
feed the horses and the cows. When
my mom got up she said I had to
make breakfast. So I made porridge.
Dad came in and Priscilla came
down and Mom sat down and so did
I and we all started to eat and we liv-
ed happily ever after.
CHRISTMAS MEMORY
By Angela Mielke
Grade 8 - Precious Blood
My grandmother's house felt warm
and welcoming. In the next room,
there was a tall Christmas tree. Shiny
and colourful bulbs hung on each
green branch.
A star was placed on the top and
shone splendidly as we stood there in
awe.
Tantalizing aromas crept from the
kitchen and tickled our noses. The
smell of roasted chicken and freshly
baked cake suddenly made us
hungry.
Relatives came to visit and also to
have a great time.
Neatly wrapped presents were
placed under the tree. The bows glim-
mered in the light. Younger children
were anxious to tear open their gifts
yet they were too beautiful to ruin.
After a great feast everybody
entered the living room to open the
presents. Big, fluffy snowflakes fell
gently on the ground. A great old'
fashioned Christmas.
A glow on everybody's face from
the gifts made me feel warm and
merry inside. But soon we have to go
back home and end the year with joy.
Inside of me I knew that this special
Christmas' was too good to last.

One magical Christmas
By Teresa Petch
Grand Bend P.S.
Once upon a time there was a girl
named Cristal, who had a very
special friend who was an angel. One
day she got a phone call.from her that
she has 34 hours to save Christmas.
She went to find Gideon, the.angel.
Then she told Gideonabout the phone
call."Gideon," she said," could you
help me get to the North Pole?"
"I have a magical ball that will help
you get there."
"Take this -ball," said Gideon," and
then wish where you want ,to go and
it will take you there." "I wish to go
the the North Pole" said Cristal. And
then right at that very moment
she was gone. Whenshe got there, she
was in front of a big house. She knoek-
ed ' on the door. A lady
answered."Yes, little girl."
"Does Mr. Santa Claus live here."
"Yes, he does." "May I see him,
please?"
"Come in and I will show you where
he is." Cristal followed Mrs. Claus to
a big room filled with toys. There
were alot of elves working on the toys.
Then she came to another BIG room
where Santa Claus was sitting
reading his letters from all the girls
and boys.
She went over to see Santa
Claus.Santa Claus said,"What cart
do for you, little girl " "The other
day I got a phone call from one of your
elves saying that I only have 34 hours
to save Christmas. So what is the pro-
blem, Santa Claus?"
"I am missing Rudolph." Cristal
said. "When did he leave?" "That is
the probleW, I don't know when. If 1
did I could use my magic to find him
and bring him home." "Why don't we
ask the other reindeer in the stable if
they saw Rudolph leave." "That's a
good idea," ssaid Santa. So they walk-
ed out to the stable. First they asked
Vixen 1 Rudolph's roommate) if they
saw Rudolph leave.
Vixon told them that he went to see

came upstairs and filled our stocks

The Phone Call
by Georgiana Phipps
McGillivray Central
Christmas Eve and we received a
phone call. I picked up the other
phone, while mom talked on the other
phone. the conversation went like
this:
"Hello.""Hello, is this-
Maud?""Yes, this is. Why?"
"Well, this Claire and I just called
to tell you, Fatheris in critical con-
dition at the hospital." "Oh my! What
ever happened?" "Calm down now,
he had a heart attack." "I'll come .
down there right away."
The phone went click. My grand-
fatherd a heart attack. I was
scared ge would die. My eyes blurred
with tears as all of thoughts whirled
around in my head. -Christmas no
longer mattered. I felt confused and
sick. I watched mom put onter best
jacket and trudge out -into tie snow.
I shouted, "Mom, can I come?" "No,
dear, you stay here safe and sound,"
replied mother. •
She got into the car and drove
away. I kneeled and prayed that
,grandfather would live. Then ail was
silent.
I waited for a phone call to tell me
what happened. What if he would die?
I had made up my mind, I wouldn't
answer it. Mom would worry about
me though, so I still wondered if I
should answer- nng! rine... ring!
ring! I put my hand on the phone and
picked it up.
"This is your mother, dear, he's
alive." There was a slight tone of
relief in her voice. A smile spread
