Present life memberships
in North Middlesex UCW

Rev. Anne Beattie, minister of
.Ailsa United Church pastoral charge,
offered the blessing after which about
40 United Church Women and friends
enjoyed a delicious smorgasbord din -
ver on Decembef d0. - -
To open the worship service Janice
Karr led a sing -song 'of Christmas
carols. with Nancy Harmer at the •
piano. The worship was taken by
Mary Clark, Florence Campbell read
the scriptures, Janice read 3 poem
"My gift'andtwo Christmas readings
were given liy Mary Sutherland.
Throughout the service two
Christmas hymns were used and the.
senior choir sang two anthems with
Marion Wadsworth at the piano..
Nine United Church Women
presented a meaningful skit "0 Silent
Night".
With each lady participating in a
"pass -it -on game", winners were
Marg Stephenson, Ruby McLean.
Margaret Dores and Shirley
Mckichan.
The highlight of the evening came
when Mary Giles, president of the
North -Middlesex presbyterial. con-
ducted a solemn service when Jean
McKichan, regional vice-president,
presented Gertrude Rosser with a
life -membership pin and certificate
and Bernice Siddall. presented Yvette
Macgregor with a life -membership
pin and certificate.
Following this, Gertrude perform-
ed a similar service when Jean
Maguire pinned a pin on our presi-
dent, Mary Clark and gave her a cer- •
tificate. Gertrude expressed thanks to
Mary for her dedicated leadership
during her two years oipresidency.
These pins were presented on behalf
of the United Church. Taken totally by
surprise, the three past -presidents
made suitable replies.
During the business. the conveners
of various groups gave gratifying
reports. Making and selling carrot
puddings has turned into a major pro-
ject so Mary Sutherland told the
crowd. At the time of the meeting on-
ly 25 tasty puddings (out of 490 ) were
left -to sell.
Mary thanked everyone - those who
collected empty 48 oz. juice cans,
those who mixed and stirred pud-
dings, cleaned up after, and to those
who steamed puddings, and to all who
helped in any way. A hearty applause
followed that excellent report.
A collection was taken for the
Parkhill "Angel" fund. We are ask-
ed to save Canada Packer labels and
used postage stamps. Mary closed the
meeting with the benediction.
The list of officers will follow later.
The. postponed meeting of the
Riverview 1Vomen's Institute was
held in the Masonic hall December 10.
The Grace and Queen were sung
before enjoying a delicious
smorgasbord dinner served at noon.
Following the meal. president Lor-
na Priestley. commenced the meeting
with the singing of the Institute Ode
and repeating of the Mary Stewart
Collect.
Twenty-two members answered the
roll call of 'show and tell' your
favourite Christmas decoration.
Milny visitors signed the guest book
including a former member.
"Christmas with us". a motto
chosen by Becky Ross. was ably
explained.
Several carols were sung during the
program with Jean Lee at the piano.
After this Jean introduced Mrs.
Sylvia Burnke, Spruce Acres near
Beechwood who demonstrated a
sleigh i full of candy i made of ginger
bread house. This was given to five

The euchre party at the communi-
ty centre December 16 had eight
tables playing.
Prize winners were High Score
Jean Noels and Harry Noels: Lone
Hands Lula Culbert and Earl
Morgan, Low Score Lydia Kegler and
Otto Darling.
Next committee on December 30
will be Roy and Lily Swartz and
Lawrence and Mildred Hirtzel.
Tom and Mary Kooy entertained
Sunday in honour of Ilelen Mac-
Donald of Lucan who was celebrating
a birthday. Those present were Helen,
'toward. Sandra. Lauralie and Jason
MacDonald. Peter and Joyce
Sovereign. Leanne, F erlin and friend
and Harry and Marian Noels; all of
Lucan, along with .lack Dickens of
Exeter, and Clayton. Alice. Bonnie
and Clyde Kooy of Huron Park.

lucky chairs marked. Mrs. Hugh
Gillies (visitor) wa given a lovely
Christmas decoration white. Courtney
( who decided it was fun to attend In-
stitute rather than Kindergarten)
received a pretty NOEL Christmas
decoration made by Ronna Hughes
while her sister Debbie. made the
other gift. (This shows how 4-11 clubs
help the young people).

which they attended the end of
November at the• Lamplighter Inn,
London.

Parade
Despite the winter weather on
Saturday many beautiful floats took
part in the Ailsa Craig Santa Claus
parade.
Led by the 37th Courageous Sea
Cadet Band of London, the parade
made its way through the village.
The winners were Parkhill Fair
Board, Carlisle Sunday School float
and Cabineer Snowmobile Club. Con-
gratulations to you and to all who
braved the brisk winter wind.
Santa arrived to hand out goodies
to the children.
Personals
Mrs. Ella Tweddle, Craigholme,
and her families, the Harmer's and
Ilindmarsh's met at the Activity Cen-
. tre for their Christmas gathering.
Saturday evening, the families of
the late Mr. and Mrs. Lawson Har-
rison ,of Carlisle, held their family
Christmas dinner and get-together at
the 'Centre'.
Ilappy Gang
December 11, the Happy Gang
seniors club met for the last time in
1985 at the Legion hall. Nine tables
were at play with prizes going to Lor-
raine Neil, Jean McCallum, Irene
Harmer. Janet Rose, Marj Davidson
and Carmon Stewart.
Most lone hands from September -
December were won by Joe Carter
who was given ten dollars. Con-
gratulations Joe!
The election of officers took place.
Gordon C. Stewart was appointed
president. but as he was absent this
office remains uncertain; Vice presi
dent - Harold Guilfoyle, secretary
Margaret Dores, and treasurer -
Helen Smith.
Following this. the seniors enjoyed
a delicious turkey dinner with the
trimmings prepared by the Legion
ladies auxiliary. President Harold ex-
pressed thanks to Myrtle Dixon and
committee.
Lorne Smith was given a donation
from the seniors for the use of the
legion hall who assured the group that
the lions' club will put this to good use
in helping the unfortunate. More
euchre in Legion hall on January 8.
