Sunday school students present concert at UC
The United Church Sunday School
presented their annual Christmas
Concert on Sunday evening at 7 p.m.
The children presented a lovely pro-
gram of carols, readings, a solo, and
a play, which retold the wonderful
story o( the birth of Christ.
• A carol sing was enjoyed by
everyone at the Grand Bend United
Church service on Sunday. After-
wards, the third Advent Candle was
lit, reminding us of the gift of talents,
which God has given each one of us.
Marlene and Morley Desjardine and
Betty Riddell took part in this
cereinony. The choir number was
,"Holy Jesus, Little One." Doug Rid-
dell read the Scripture, the story of
the elder brother lathe tale of the Pro-
digal Son.
in his sermon on "Grace" Rev.
Peebles sought to answer the question
"What was so exicting about that first
Christmas?" He reminded the con-
gregation that man was lost and dead
in sin, unable to do anything about his
condition. But God, through the gift
of His Son, Jesus Christ, and His
sacrifice, opened the door of
repentence. As man steps through the
door, he wjll receive forgiveness for
his sins and eternal life.
Let us not be like the elder brother
who allowed envy, jealousy and self-
righteousness control him, thereby
missing out ' on God's blessings.
Rather, let us be like the prodigal son
who received forgiveness and was
blessed.
United Church Women's meeting

the afternoon unit meeting of the
Grand Bend United Church women.

On Saturday, 54 people enjoyed a
Christmas turkey dinner with all the
trimmings, then 14 more showed up
for the dance - a really good turnout.
So many door prizes and spot dances
were awarded throughout the evening
that nearly half the people.there won
something.
Members of the executive would
like to thank all those who donated the
prizes, and to those super chefs who
prepared the delicious •meal for
everyone. There was even a midnight
snack served to those who chose to
dance the night away. •
In a special ceremony, Chuck
Howard presented Past President
Keith Crawford with a beAutiful gift
as a token of appreciation for a job
well done, from all the Legion
members. There is another reminder -
to all members that there will be a
New Year's Day Levee from 12 - 5
p.m. at the Legion, so come and
celebrate!
Good cheer to our
wonderful friends and
