Hawks lose two more by big scores
The Exeter Hawks continued to be
an easy two points for the opposition
this week as they suffered two more
one-sided setbacks.
The locals had only 11 skaters for
Saturday night's contest in Belmont,
where they were drubbed 9-1 by the
Bombers. In Exeter the following
night, the visiting Tavistock Braves
posted a convincing 9-3 triumph.
Exeter has now been deposited to
the cellar in the southern division with
four wins and a tie in 24 games for
nine points.
The Hawks take their show on the
road for two outings this week. Friday
night they'll be in Thamesford and
Sunday they meet the Browns in
Thedford.
Thedford now leads the locals by
four points in the battle for the cellar
position.
In Belmont, Saturday, the Hawks
were no match for the Bombers, who
scored three times in each period and
limited the Exeter crew to 21 shots on
net.
The only successful shot was from
the stick of Steve Gould in the final
period.George Pratt and Ian Munroe
registered assists on the play.
Jeff Laporte faced 59 shots in net
for the Hawks who managed to beat
the Bombers in the penalty depart-
ment, sitting out eight of the minors
called.

The Lucan club was involved in two
shutout games. Wednesday at home
they administered a whitewash to the
Thedford Browns by a score of 6-0 and
Saturday in Mount Brydges they were
blanked 3-0 by the Bulldogs.
In Wednesday's 6-0 victory over
Thedford, the Irish scored two goals
in each period as goalie Brent Fowles
recorded the shutout turning back 18
shots.
In the first 20 minutes of play, Paul
Barnes converted a pass from Brent.
Martin and Wayne Urbshott scored on
a pass from Rob Hardy.
Both second period markers were
registered by Brad Muir, each on
three-way passing combinations.
Assisting were Brent Martin, Paul
Barnes, Scott Denomy and Jesse
Crawford.
Thr . closing flame saw Scott
Denomy hit the Thedford net on
passes from Wayne Urbshott and
Brent Martin and Jesse Crawford was
successful on a play originated by
Brad Muir and Glenn Marshall.

Bantams gain

The Exeter bantams enjoyed a suc-
cessful week in Shamrock minor
hockey league play as they edged St.
Marys and blanked Lucan 6-0.
Threlearly goals led to the 7-5 vic-
tory over St. -Marys and was clinch-
ed by an insurance goal from the stick
of Jeff Dalrymple on a pass from cap-
tain Jon O'Connor late in the third
frame.
The only goal of the opening period
was shot by Steve Anderson on a
three-way effort with Doug Clark and
Steve Watson and early in the middle
stanza Jon O'Connor converted a pass
from Jeff Dalrymple and Tim Carter
followed with a successful shot on
passes from Steve Anderson and Jeff
Ilannah.
Late in the second period sandwich-
ed amidst four St. Marys goals was an
Exeter marker by Jeff Kints on a pass
from Jeff Ilannah.
In the third period, Jon O'Connor
counted on an unassisted effort and
Jeff Kints registered with the assist
going to David O'Connor.
Jon O'Connor led the Exeter
youngsters in the victory over Lucan
with a three goal performance. Larry
Lewis picked up two assists and Steve
L.ingard and Frank Wullerkens each
assisted on one score.
Jeff Ilannah notched one score on
a solo dash. Jeff Chipchase was suc-
cessful on a three-way effort with
O'Connor and Steve Watson and
Shawn Moore hit the Lucan net on a
pass from Tim ('arter.
In a Wednesday contest, the ban-
tams played to a 4-4 draw with
Thamesford.

O'Connor, Shawn Moore, Jeff Ilannah
and .Jeff Chipchase. O'Connor picked
up three assists for a four point night
while Ti'n Carter and Shawn Moore
each helped on one score.

The Hawks almost escaped without
a penalty in the game as Brian Quinn
picked up the Team's first minor at
the 18;30 mark of the final stanza,
followed by a five-minute high stick-
ing penalty to Brent Atthill at the
19:58 mark.
Bell atoms lose
The Exter Be11 atoms dropped a 8-1
decision to Zurich in a Huron -Perth
houseleague game, Monday night.
The only Exeter goal was scored by
Jeremy Brock on an unassisted effort
early in the third period.
Jason Schilbe was the leading
scorer for Zurich with a three goal
performance. Andy Grainger check-
ed in with two successful shots and
single goals were fired by Chad
Willamson, Mark Keller and Peter
Overholt:
Shuffleboard play
Doubles play featured Wednesday's
competiton of the Exeter shuffleboard
club and the winners with four wins
and 58 points were Lorne Marshall
and Alf Ross.
Placing second with 56.5 points
were Ray Cottle and Iva Blair while
Delmer Skinner and Muriel Marshall
were next with 52.8 points. Finishing
fourth with 48.8 points were Tom
Yellow and Earl Dixon.
Kay Blair accumulated the high
score of 357 in Tuesday's regular play.
Next came Delmer Skinner 352, Mar-
shall Dearing 350, Lorne Marshall 328
and Harold Davis 318.
