Church Services
Reverend Robert Matheson was in
charge of the Third Sunday In Advent
church service, Sunday morning. He
lit three candles in the Advent
Wreath: -1st- The Prophecy Candle,
2nd- The Bethlehem Candle and 3rd -
The Shepherds' Candle.
Reverend Robert Matheson told the
children about each candle as he lit
them. The choir sang two anthems,
"Only a Child In a Manger" and
"Softly a Child Should Enfold Thee"
accompanied by the organist Miss
Agnes Bray. The Scripture Lesson
was read from Zephaniah 3:14-20,
Philippians 4:4-9, Luke 3:7-18. The
sermon was entitled "Shattering the
Darkness".
The entire book is dismal and
gloomy except for this passage. This
introducesus to Advent Theme of
Joy. This same passage is used dur-
ing Easter Vigil when the Church an-
ticipates resurrection. People of
Babylonian Exile needed a resurrec-
tion message.
God gives us hope in even the most
hopeless of circumstances. Hope
which carries us beyond the tragedies
of t is world.

December 24th at 8:00 p.m. in
