Hockey guide, Lions dinner tickets for Christmas gifts
Looking tor a gift for the avid hockey fan in your family? You
could do a lot worse than get a copy of the official guide and record
book for 1985-86 of the National Hockey League.
First of all inside the front and back cover you can find the
current N111., schedule. It is a '354 ,page book and on page five is
listed inseructions on how to use the guide.
In includes every conceivable record ever set in the NHL,
along with team rosters, results and records; final 1984-85
statistics, Stanley Cup records, a player register, a goal tender
register and something new for the first time an NHL challenge
quiz.
-For local fans, the professional records of Dave Shaw and Paul
and Perry ['coley are included.
The NHL draft choices of the years from 1969 to 1984 are shown
and it's interesting to note that about only half of the other players'
{>' drafted first by the other 20 clubs at the same time as the Quebec
Nordiques took Dave Shaw as 13th overall are making a name for
themselves this season.
Of this group in addition to Shaw, the top performers include
Brian Bellows, Gord Kluzak, Gary Nylund, Ron Sutter, Scott
Stevens, Phil Housley, Rich Sutter, Pat Flatley, Ken Yaremchuk
_and Jim Playfair.
It was great to hear the Nordiques general manager make
glowing comments about the play of Dave Shaw following Friday's
Sports Spotlight
by Ross Haugh
CTV weekly telecast. He said Dave was a pleasant surprise and
now considered one of the best players on the Quebec club.
A week ago in reporting Dave's selection as Nordiques player
for the month of November we failed to reveal that he was chosen
over a pretty fair hockey player Marion'Stasny.
The challenge quiz in the. NHL guide and record book is spread
Tavistock here, Friday
throughout the edition with answer's to the 100 questions appear-
ing on the last coulpe of pages.
While talking about Christmas gifts we could make another
good suggestion `Tickets are now on sale for the 1986th edition of
the Exeter Lions Sportsmen's Dinner and would look good in a
Christmas stocking.
' The tickets for the popular event remain at $35 for adults and
$20 for students and children. A good portion of the price is again
tax deductible. They are now available and may be purchased from
any member of the Exeter Lions club and several businesses in
town.
This upcoming dinner slated for the South Huron Rec Centre
on Tuesday, February 4, 1986 will be the 13th annual and number
13 could prove to be lucky to area sports followers.
Only two celebrities have been confirmed to date, but, if the
rest are of the same quality weshould be in for an exciting dinner. -
The master of ceremonies is Gordie Tapp who doubles on televi-
sion as Cousin Clem and a number of other characters. One of the
main speakers will be the Montreal Canadiens immortal Maurice
"The Rocket" Richard.

Palmerston goals came on power
play attempts.

in the third frame completed the Ex-
