First Christmas
for Kippen couple

Bob and Frances Kinsman hosted
their first Christmas get -together -of
the family on Sunday, December 1.
Frances' parents Ross and Florence
llern from Ailsa Craig were present
along with John and Karen.Kinsman
and their children Michelle, Richard.
Jeffrey and Andrew; Dwight and
Faye Kinsman and their children
Jacob, Luke and Daniel:. Lyle
Kinsman and friend Julie llabkirk.
Kippen United Church
The first Sunday of Advent was
conimemorated in St. Andrew's on
December 1 with Rev. Lorne Keays
giving an explanation of Advent and
lighting the first candle, "The Candle'
of Enpeetation".
The Ministry of Music was
.presented by the -choir singing
"Welcome the Infant King". This ren-
dition was accompanied by Mary
Moffat at the organ.
Rev. Keays' sermon was entitled
"Christmas -- Promised By God". He
expounded by saying that many
generations had lived in expectation
of God sending a Messiah. We can
hope to have peace here on earth
because God has promised that Ile
will return to us, hence we ligh ,the
candle of Expectation.
Bulletin announcements -- a can-
vass conducted by the Committee of
Stewards will be starting right away
for Kippen Church members. .

Service at St. Patrick's was held
Sunday with Rev. Peter Derrick in
charge, Mrs. Sheryl Carroll provided
the music Allan Cunningham and
Mrs. Hazel Davies read the lessons
and Paul Bedell was server.
Rev. Derrick spoke to the children
on accepting God's promises. Julie
Carroll lit the first Advent Candle, the
church and parish hall were
decorated for Christmas. Plans are
made for a pot luck dinner and the
Sunday School concert, after a short
church service at 11:30 p.m. next
Sunday.
Personals
Mr: and Mrs. Harry Carroll were
dinner guests with their son and fami-
ly, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Carroll Satur-
day evening - they were observing
Julib's birthday, Debbie Greenlee,,
Lucan was a guest also. -

held* Monday November 24 with 10
tables playing. Prizes went to high

Gilmour. Special prize went to Agnes
,'ltotsons. Owing to the mild weather
several skunks were out. Next party.

and Clyde attended services on Sun
day at Ailsa Craig United church
where their nephew. son of Mr. and
Mrs. John Robinson was baptised.
We welcome Mr. and Mrs. Ai Hart-
ford and family who moved here from
Huron Park to the. home they pur-
chased from Dave and Mary Ellen.

Tom and Mary Kooy attended ser-
vices at Iloly Trinity Church. Lucan
on Sunday and wire dinner guests
after at a family dinner at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Sovereign.

Mrs. Myrtle Brownlee. at Craigholme
Nursing Home. Ailsa Craig. Mrs
Brownlee had been very ill and she
passed away on Sunday. December 1.
in her 90th year. She had been a resi-
dent of Craigholme for over 10 years.
Funeral was Tuesday. from the
Stephenson Funeral home with Inter-
ment in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

Thames Road Couple
celebrates golden

Tuesday evening 28 people
gathered at Usborne Central School
to honour Mr. and Mrs. Harold Rowe
on the occasion of their 50th wedding
anniversary.
Euchre was played and the prizes
were won'by Ladies }sigh Mrs. Jack
Hodgert, Ladies Low, Mrs. Dennis
Rowe, 'Lone Hands Wayne Rowe,
Men's High Lee Webber and Men's
Low Jack Hodgert.
Mrs. Lee Webber gave a humorous
reading. Mr. Ray Cottle read an ad-
dress and Reg Hodgert presented Mr.
and'Mrs. Harold Rowe with a sun cat-
cher. Both replied, and all joined in
singing "For They Are Jolly Good
Fellows". A smorgasbord lunch was
partaken of. Congratulations Harold
and Belva.
Baby Band Party
Saturday 26 adults and children
gathered in the church basement for
the annual Baby Band Meeting. Mrs.
Ted Kernick welcomed everyone and
read a Christmas poem "Don't Look"
Joy To The World was sung. Mrs.
Rick Parker read the Christmas
Story.
The offering was then received and
Mrs. Kernick offered prayer.
The mothers a$d their daughters
who were graduating were called to
the front namely Mrs. Larry Baden-,
tyne and Jayne, Mrs. Ted Kernick
and Lori, Mrs. Barry E. Miller 'and
Rebecca. Mrs. Gerry Morgan and
Jackie.
Mrs. Parker gave a talk to the
mothers and girls and presented each
girl with a gift. Mrs. Gerry Morgan
welcomed the girls to the Messenger
Group' of which Mrs. Morgan is a
leader Jo -Dee Rowe also graduated,
but was absent. Lunch was then par-
taken of . The leaders are Mrs. Ted
. Kernick and Mrs. Rick Parker.
Church' Service
The church service Sunday was
conducted by Rev. Robert Matheson.
Rev. Matheson lit the first candle in
the Advent Wreath which was The
Prophecy Candle and he 'told the
children about the candle.
The choir sang two numbers "The
Story That Never Grows Old" and
"Sleep My Little Jesus" accompanied
by the organist Miss Agnes Bray.
The Scripture Lesson was taken
from Jeremiah 33:14-16 Thessalo-
nians 5:106, Luke 19:28-40.
The Meditation was entitled "As We
Are Bid".
Paul in 1 Thessalonians, tells us to
remain awake. We do so by doing as
we are1 id - coming to the Table of our
Lord and celebrating the Lord's Sup-
per in his promise.
Rev. Robert Matheson served the
elders communion and then the elders
served the congregation. -
White Gift Service will be held Sun-
day December 8 at 11:15 a.m.
