Irish win two games,
take over first place
The ..Lucan Irish scored two con-
secutive victories this week to take
over sole possession of first place in
the OHA Junior "D" south group of
the western league.
The Irish as the result of a 10-2 win
over Thamesford and a 4-3 decision
over Belmont now lead the second
place Mount Brydges Bulldogs by .two
points and the third place Belmont
Bombers by four points.
The Exeter Hawks will supply the
opposition for the Irish tonight.
Wednesday at the Lucan Community
Centre at 8:15 and then the Lucan
youngsters are on the road for their
next two contests. They will be in Mit-
chell Friday. night and Mount
Brydges Sunday night. -

scored three times in the first period
and although the Bombers came back
with two scores in the same session
and one more early in the second, an
Irish score at 8.01. of the second was
enough to take home the win.
In the first period, Wayne Urbshott
scored two goals. One came on a
power play on passes from Brad Muir.
and Dean Schram in the second
minute of play and other was set up
by Schram and Rob Hardy. '
The eventual winning goal came
from the stick of Paul Barnes on a
pass from Brent Martin.
Urbshott Leads
- Wayne Urbshott was the Irish
leader in the scoring department in
the easy 10-2 romp over Thamesford.
Ile registered two goals in each of the
second and third periods.
In the first period Brent Martin put
the Irish ahead with two quick goals"
and they never looked back. Getting
assists were Paul Barnes and Paul
Foran.
Then it was Paul' Barnes' turn to
lake over the scoring. He notched the
last goal of .the initial session on a
three-way effort with Brad Muir and
DeanDoerr and started the second 20
minutes of play as he converted
passes from Jesse Crawford and
Brent Martin.
After Barnes hit his scoring peak,
Wayne Urbshott took over with two
successful shots to wind up the second
.and another to get the closing frame
underway.
One of Urbshott's scores, was ac-
complished in unassisted fashion
while Brent Martin, Paul Foran and
captain Jeff Hodgins helped set up the
other two.
Next it was Urbshott's turn to be
playmaker as he assisted on a goat by
Glenn Marshall and then came back
to get hi1fourth of the night with pass-
ing help from Marshall . and Rob
Hardy.
The Irish scoring for the night was
completed by Rob Hardy as he finish-
ed off a three-way passing combina-
tion with Scott Denomy and Urbshott.
Play away this weekend
Mohawks get split in OHA games
The Exeter Mohawks gained an
even split in two weekend OHA In-
termediate "C" games. Saturday in
Hillsburgh they scored a 13-7 victory
over the Blues and Sunday night on
home ice they dropped a 10-8 decision
to the New Hamburg Towers.
The Mohawks will be in action of
two occasions this coming weekend
and both outings are on the road. •
Saturday they will be in Palmerston
for an 8 p.m. contest and Sunday
afternoon at 2 p.m. it's visit 10
Harristoe.
The next home game for the
Mohawks will be Friday night,
December 13 with Tavistock supply-
ing the opposition at the South Huron
Rec Centre.
Six first period goals proved to be
the difference as the Mohawks won
13-7 in Hillsburgh and six different
players shared in the scoring. The
first two scow s involved two players
each. Mike C ark converted a pass
from Bill GI er as did Randy Kraul
from Dale ibbon.
Then it was Glover on a three-way
passing effort with Cam Doig and
Doug Latta and Jim Benn on a
similar play with Brian Mercer and
Jim Guenther providing the passes.
The first period scoring was com-
pleted as Cam Doig hit on a pass from
Randy Kcaul on a power play and Jim
Guenther set up Brian Mercer for a
successful shot.
.Pete 'hickey took care of the Exeter
scoring in the middle session as he
beat Steve Cassan in the Hillsburgh
nets with two shots. Ron Elliott
assisted on both and Dale Gibbon and
Jim Guenther gained single assists.
In the final frame Jim Benn led the
Exeter scorers with a double effort.

As a goaltender Andy follows in the
footsteps of his father Tom and uncles
Jim and Eugene who have been top
netminders in recent years in area
hockey circles.
Shuffleboard
' Phil Ilern was the winner of Tues-
day's shuffleboard action with a score
of 408. Next came Harold Davis 329,
Howard Jobas 295. Mabel McKnight
288 and Jean Hern 283.
A score of 256 gave Muriel Marshall
Wednesday's championship. She was
followed by Ernie Ross 245, lfoward
Johns 244. Lorne Marshall 225 and
Rena Ross 204.
Taking Thursday's competition
with a score of 306 was Il and Johns.
Then came Bill 'McLean • 299. John
Olierle 286, Phil !tern 266 and Ross
R`ehardson 247.

Assisting were Dave Kinsman, Brian
Korner and Brian Mercer. Scoring in
single fashion were Cam Doig, Brian
Mercer and Jim Guenther. Assisters
were Benn•with two for a four point
period and Ron Elliott, Brian Horner,
Brian Mercer, Mike Clark, Bill
Glover and Dale Gibbon.
In the third period, Ron Elliott
received a game misconduct penalty
as the third man in on a fight and
missed Sunday's game and will be
also suspended for the Saturday game
in Palmerston.
On Exeter ice, Sunday night, New
Hamburg scored four times in the
third period and that provided the dif-
ference in the 10-8 score. -
The Towers took a 2-1 first period
lead as Mike Clark notched the only
Exeter goal on an unassisted effort.
The Mohawks outscored their op-
position by six goals to five in the se-
cond period to get back on even terms
on the scoreboard.
Again the scoring was well spread.
Bill Glo%4r started it off with a solo
dash marker, Cam Doig registered on
passes from Dave Kinsman and Ran-
dy Kraul and Jim Benn hit on a three-
way effort with Barry Baynham and
Jim Guenther on a power play.
On another power play situation,
Dale Gibbon converted a pass from
Barry Baynham and Oete Tuckey
followed witt}a score with assists go-
ing to Mike Clark and Randy Kraut.
The only final session goals for the
Mohawks came from the sticks of
Randy Kraut and Cam Doig with
Barry Baynham and Jim Benn
assisting.
