Dave -.-Shaw named Quebec Nordique playerofthe month
Former local hockey star Dave Shaw is making his presence
felt in the National Hockey League.
Early this week, Dave was named Quebec Nordiques player
of the month of November.
The selection is made by a committee of 12 excluding team
directors and news media.
Saturday night Dave was named second star of the game in
Quebec when the Boston Bruins supplied the opposition.
It was the second time in two weeks he had made the three
star selection. The first came when he scored a winning goal
against Buffalo.
We were able to catch Dave in action Thursday night thanks
to our satellite dish and Dave turned in a very steady performance
as his Quebec Nordiques blanked the Boston Bruins 3-0.
In the third period when along the boards a Boston player held
Shaw's stick under his arm for a few seconds, the Bruins announcer
said, "David Shaw was very good natured about that."
In the latest copy of the Hockey News Dave Shaw is credited
with two goals and four assists in 18 games.
For any area hockey fans wishing to see the local star in ac-
tion, Ellison Travel will be running buses to Detroit on January
4 and Maple -Leaf Gardens on January 11 when the Quebec Nordi-
queswill be supplying the opposition.
Player of the week
The same issue of the Hockey News which will be on local news
' stands today, Wednesday contains the minor player of the week
and he is Andy G1aVin of Stephen township.
Andy, the eight-yeaf'-old son of Tom and Judy Glavin is
featured as a novice goal tender with the Huron Park novice team.

Sports in Michigan
We had the pleasure of a two day visit to the State of Michigan
during the past week and enjoyed top notch sporting attractions.
Wednesday it was a visit to Joe Louis arena to see the Detroit
Red Wings in their best showing of the season as they bested the
Buffalo Sabres 4-1.
Affiggraffaf
The star for the Wings was Peter Klima, their defector from
Czechoslovakia. The 19 year-old in his first season in the west was
sensational, with his great stickhandling:and dekiag. Klima scored
two goals and was also strong on the defensive side of the ledger.
At the Silverdome in Pontiac Thanksgiving afternoon, the
miracles of the Detroit Lions continued as they beat the New York
Jets quite handilx
The chant of Lions fans is now "Home Sweet Dome." Despite
the great heroics al home, Thursday's attendance was well below
capacity at about 44,000.
Jets make donation
While the Lucan-Ilderton Jets senior hockey team has been
disbanded for a number of years, the fruits of their fame will help
the younger generation.
Friday afternoon Ernie Dobinson and Don Urbshott presented
a cheque in the amount of $2,500 to the Medway high school hockey
team. The money is being used for new uniforms and. equipment.
Before the current high school season started, Medway and
Regina Mundi of London were denied entrance to the London
Conference. '
The two teams have been playing exhibition games and Fri-
day Medway defeated Regina Mundi 7-4 and earned the right to
meet the eventual London Conference champ in a special playoff.
