The high scores were Dorothy Brintnell with 206, Vera Ross 173 and John Pepper 160. Time is not wasted while waiting to play shuffleboard. Card games keep the action going. United Church New members were received through transfer of membership on Sunday morning at the United Church. Welcomed into the church were from Kippen United Church, Mark Consitt, Grant and Gladys McGregor; from Thames Road United Church, Carolyn Knight; from - Dashwood United Church, Julie Rit- chie: from Kirkton United Church, Joyce Patton; and from Ayton Lutheran Church; Rosemary Upshall. • Mr. McDonald conducted the ser- vice with Mark Brock .as Junior Minister. Mark read the scripture in the leadership of worship. The choir, under the direction- of Be1va F uss, sang Break Thou The Bread Of Life. The Junior and Senior choirs led in the ministry of Music. The service opened with the lighting of the Advent Candle. Those taking part in the lighting on the first Sunday of Advent were represen- tatives of the choir, Joyce Pepper, Jean Jacobe and Angel Gould. Next Sunday representatives of the Sunday Church School will light the second candle. The Sacrament of Holy Communion was administered at the service with Donald Wareing and Sharon Wurm assisting the minister with the ser- vice; those serving the congregation were Cindy Taylor, Scott Jesney, John Rowcliffe, Paul Alexander, Mer- vyn Fields, Donald Stebbins, Bill Stebbins and Nancy Campbell. Mr. McDonald spoke on the subject of "Led By The Star Of Love". He spoke of how the Wise Men saw the Babe of,Bethlehem and knelt down and worshipped him. In adoration and praise they gave him their devotion. Then, in the overflow of certitude, they gave him their gifts. "In the act of worship they finally understood that they came not to see, not Co talk, not to gain honour, but to do reverence. It is only in the spirit of love we truly worship. That is the meaning of the Advent journey." he said. Glen Hayter greeted the congrega- tion and Troyann Cole, Pauline Bell, Starr Jesney and Stiaron Wurm were the ushers. The church was beautiful- ly decorated for Christmas by Unit One of the United Church Women. The congregation were reminded that next Sunday would be the annual White Gift Service and Christmas Pageant put on by the children of the h congregation: The theme will be on the Mission Study of the church "Our Native Indians" and theJunior Choir will lead in the ministry of Music. Mr. McDonald also announced that the church envelopes were ready and out in the church hall. Mrs. Elva Forrest, Miss Mary Kinsman and Rev. McDonald attend- ed the Sessions of Huron - Perth Presbytery held in Monkton United Church on Tuesday of this past week. The Sunday Church School staff of the United Church held their staff , meeting on Monday evening. Final plans were made for the Christmas Pagent which will be presented on Sunday, December 8 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary. Cecil Pepper, the Suct- day Church School superintendent was in charge of the business with Joanne Rowcliffe assisting as secretary. There will be no Sunday School on Sunday, December 29 and everyone is invited to worship as a family. Plans were also completed for Christmas Caroling around the village from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 15. Anyone wan- ting particularly to have the children come and sing should phone the Superintendent or secretary or the church office. Following the singing of Carols the children will return to the church to receive a visit from Santa. The Fellowship Bible study group of the United Church had their final session of this unit on Wednesday morning with an excellent atten- dance. They have been studying the theme of "The United Church Looks at God". The next unit of studies will be held the first part of the year. Rev. McDonald attended the wed- ding of Thelma McDougall and Ken- neth Johnston held in Blyth on Satur- day afternoon. Carmel Church Poinsettias and candles decorated the sanctuary in Carmel Presbyterian Church on Sunday. The signifigance of the Advent Candle was given by Dorothy Taylor and the candle representing "Hope" was lit by Kathie Bell. The choir, under the leadership of MiSs Carolyn Love, sang "Come Thou Long -Expected Jesus". Rev. Knight gave an inspiring message entitled "Our Hope in God." Over the past two weeks we have had plen- ty of activities. On Monday, November 18 and Mon- day, November 24 the Bethel Reform- ed Church ladies held bingo for our residents along. Pith sing -song after- wards. We always have a large turn- out for our bingos and everyone always enjoys the sing song. On Thursday, November 19, Rev. Knight from the Presbyterian Church performed our church service. Mrs. Dorothy Taylor was the pianist. On Tuesday, November 26, l'tev. Randy Cox performed our church ser- vice., His wife, Deborah Cox, played the guitar. On Thursday, November 21, we had an excellent double feature movie presentation. The films were "Hollywood: The Dream Factory" and "A Christmas Carol". Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the movies! Also on Thursday evening the Zurich Men- nonite Ladies came in and helped us with crafts. We started making centerpieces for our thing room tables for our Christmas dinner coming up on December 15th. The ladies brought in cookies for a snack. They were delicious! On Friday, November 22 our Bak - in: Club Made ".Johnn Cake". The last Wednesday of each month is our ,bowling day. Nine of our residents went to Trtwn and Country Bowling Lanes in Zureich to put their bowling skills to the test. Ladies high score was bowled by Muriel Gunning of the Rest Home and mens high score was bowled by Neil Regan of the Nursing Home. On Thursday, November 28 our movie was "The Summer We Moved to"Elm Street". It was a sad movie and very realistic. We have started a Horticulture club to keep our plants here at Queensway healthy and green. Our first meeting was on. Friday, November 29. We reported and trimmed a few plants. We had a good time and no one mind- ed getting a little dirt under their fingernails. On Saturday, November 30, we held or monthly blrtlidayy for the Nursing Home. We started off by playing Bingo as everyone really en- joys this activity. We also sang "Hap- py Birthday" to our birthday people and shared loads of cake and ice cream. Birthdays celebrated at our party were Mr. Clifford Blanchard, Mrs. Mary Westlake and Mr. Louis Pare. Already planning to expand New restaurant opens Hensall's newest enterprise, Allen's Food, opened for business last week. Londoner Don Allen first approached Hensall Council in late January with a proposal to open a fast food restaurant in an addition he planned to build onto property he had purchas- ed at the southwestern corner of Highway 4 and King St. Allen did most of the construction work himself, and jokes that he doesn't know what to do now without a hammer in his hand. The restaurant, staffed by Allen, his wife Jessie, son Ken and Sandy Max- well, has added extra gourmet touches to the standard fast food fare. Bread, muffins and pies are home - _baked by Mrs. Allen. Coffee is from Timothy's Coffees of the World. Local suppliers include Meal's Meats, Sou- dant potatoes, Tasty Nu Bakery. Hurondale Dairy and Tuckey Beverages. The drive-through service will be in operation in approximately two weeks. At present, the Aliens are living1n the house attached to,the restaurant. Future plans call for a; dining lounge in this area.
