Nawks win firsi game on
The Exeter Hawks won their first
game away from home on Sunday as
They continued their mastery over the
Clinton Mustangs.
The 4-1 triumph came following two
earlier losses in the week to the Mit-
chell Hawks and Lucan Irish. The
losses leave the Hawks mired in fifth
place in the southern division of the
Western Junior "D" group.
This week the locals have only one
game as they travel to Mt. Biydges
Belles compile
pair of victories
Two winning games were played by
the Huron Park Belles November 16,
Forest came to the Stephen area
where they were defeated 6-4.
Two goals each were scored by
Stephanie Jones, Kristin Lovie and
Corina Price.
Saturday the Belles outplayed Mit-
chell with a score of 8-4. Kristin Lovie
scored five times, Stephanie Jones,
twice and Patty Bowerman once.
The Junior Belles were defeated
Friday by Mitchell. The score'was
13-1. Shauna Becker scored the ono- -
and only goal for that night.
However, Sunday they travelled to
Goderich and tied 4-4. Three goals
were scored by Corina Price, and one
by Patty Bowerman.

on Saturday to face the Bulls.
Goalie Jeff Laporte was the major
factor in Sunday's win in Clinton as
he turned aside 50 shots in a game
dominated by the Mustangs. The
Hawks had 32 shots on net.
Clinton took a 14 lead at the 5:35
mark of the first, but that was all they
could get behind Laporte as he came
up with some stellar netminding.
The Hawks evened the score on a
powerplay goal by Steve Gould late in
the middle frame as he finished off a
play with Sean Whiteford and Goerge
Pratt.
Steve ,McIntyre fired the eventual
winner to open the second on a play
with Don Hamilton and Dave Skea.
Jeff Pfaff connected late in the mid-
dle stanza on the team's second
.powerplay goal with Pratt and Scott
Bogart drawing the assists and Ex-
eter pulled the game out of reach at
the 17:45 mark of the third when
Irish back to
first place tie
• Two victories for the Lucan Irish
this week were enough to send them
back into a first place tie with the Bel-
mont Bombers in the OHA Junior
"D" south group of the western
division.
On home ice Wednesday, the Irish
dumped the Tavistock Braves by a
score of 11-4 and in Exeter Friday it
was a 7-3 win over the Hawks.
The Irish will be at home tonight,
Wednesday at the Lucan Community
Centre to the Thamesford Trojans
and Sunday they will be in Belmont
for a big game against the Bombers.
Big Second Period
Five goals in the second period pro-
ved to be plenty for the Irish aa,they
turned the Tavistock Braves away
Wednesday night.
Wayne Urbshott fired two suc-
cessful shots in a space of 11 seconds
near the five minute mark with Paul
Foran, Dean Schram and Glenn Mar-
shall assisting. The other opening
period score came from the stick of
Brad Muir on a three-way effort with
Foran and Marshall.
In the middle frame, Dean Schram,
Brent Martin, Waype Urbshott, Brad
Muir and Scott Denomy were the
Irish sharpshooters. Muir picked up .
a pair of assists and Marshall, Dean
Doer, Urbshott, Denomy and Martin
helped -on one goal apiece.
In the third period. Wayne Urbshott
potted his fourth goal of the game,
Brent Martin scored his second and
Glen Marshall fired his first.

The Lucan Irish continued their
winning ways against the the Hawks
with a 7-3 triumph in their first visit
to the rec centre, Friday.

Molting Hawks win,
host weekend tourney
The Exeter Molting Hawks scored
two victories this week in oldtimers
hockey league action.
-Saturday, the Molting Hawks
defeated the Strathroy oldtimers 5-3
Saturday in the Middlesex town and
came back on home ice Monday night
to beat Strathroy 9-4.
Scott Burton fired two successful
shots to lead the local oldtimers to
their win over Strathroy. Scoring in
single fashion were Bob Jones, Ernie
Ahrens and Jack Chipchase.
Ahrens was the leading playmaker
with two assists to his credit. Helping
on one goal each were Bill Pincombe,
Scott Burton, and Mike Cushman.
Four unanswered scores in the se-
cond period proved to be enough to
lead the Hawks to Monday's win over
a strong Seaforth club-Seaforth took
a'2'-1 first period lead as Bill Weber
alltd Terry Craig beat Ken Hyde in the
Exeter net. Replying for the Hawks
was Ken Bergmann on an unassisted
effort.
Bill Chipchase scored twice to lead
the Hawks in their four goal second
period outburst. One came on a solo
dash and the other on a pass from
Walt Tiedeman.
Bantams
In two Shamrock minor hockey
games this week, the Exeter bantams
downed Lucan 10-4 and dropped a 4-1
decision to Mount Brydges.
In the first contest, Lucan took a 2-1
first period lead before the Exeter
youngsters roared back with seven
scores in the second frame to only one
for the opposition.
Steve Watson notched the first Ex-
eter goal on a three-way effort -with
Larry Lewis and Jon O'Connor while
for Lucan Jeff Bond 'registered on a
solo dash and Darren Neil hit on
passes from Tim Hayter and Brian
Heessels.
Jon O'Connor scored five second
stanza goals with Jeff Chipchase and
Mark Coward helping on two each
and single assists went to Steve
Lingard, Jeff Hannah and Jeff Kints.
The lone middle period Lucan goal
came from the stick of Jeff Bond on
a pass from Jason McDonald.
in the third period. the Exeter goals
were shot by Steve Anderson, Jeff
Chipchase and Jeff Kints assisting
Ernie Ahrens completed a three-
way passing combination with Mike
Cushman and Jim Pfaff and Frank
Boyle was set up by Ken Bergmann
and Al Flynn.
In the final session, Ken Borgmann,
Scott Burton, Bob McDonald and Walt
Tiedeman were the goal scorers for
the Molting Hawks with assists going
to Pete McFalls, Jack Chipchase, Bill
Chipchase, Al Flynn.
The last two Seaforth scores were
shot by Murray Henderson and Bob
McDonald.
The Molting Hawks will be hosting
their annual oldtimers tournament
this weekend at the South Huron Rec
Centre and will be competing
themselves as the result of one team
dropping out.
Competing in the "A" division will
be Belmont, Lucan, London
Firebirds, Dorchester, London Old
Rats and the Molting Hawks. The "B"
teams will be Ridgetown; London
Blues, Lambeth, Zurich Has Beans,
Sarnia Old Oilers and Port Stanley.
.Play begins Friday night and con-
tinues through Saturday and Sunday
with the B final set for 5 p.m. Sunday
and the A final toltowing.

In two weekend- games, the ban-
tams were defeated 5-4 by St, Marys
and 3-1 by Belmont.
The only Exeter goat in the loss to
Belmont came as Larry Lewis com-
pleted a three-way combination with
Mark Coward'and Steve Watson.
Scoring in the game with St. Marys
came in bunches. The Exeter club
scored the first three of the game and
then St. Marys came back with five
straight before the locals notched the
final score of the game.
Captain Jon O'Connor was the scor-
ing star for Exeter with one goal and
assists on the other three scores by his -
tnates. They were fired by Larry
Lewis, Jeff Chipchase and Jeff Kints.
Mark Coward picked up one assist.

In a battle with their namesakes,
Waxers lose
in own tourney
Seaforth and Petrolia were the
champions in the Saturday novice
hockey tournament at the South
Huron Rec Centre sponsored bx Pfaff
Electric and the Exeter Optimist
Club.
Seaforth took the "A" champion-
ship by virtue of wins over Parkhill
6-2, Lucan 7-0 and Ridgetown 6-2.
Petrolia emerged as "B" title win-
ners. They lost their first game 2-1 to
Lucan and then followed with a 3-2
win over Parkhill and edged the Ex-
eter Waxers 1-0 in the final.
The Waxers lost 5-3 to Ridgetown
and then blanked Mitchell 10-0 before
losing a tough game to Petrolia.
In the first round loss to Ridgetown,
Steve Sti,re, -Marty 'DeBruyn and
Chris McDonald were the Exeter
marksmen with assists going to Eric
Clay, Sean McCann and Ted
Hoffman.
Steve Stire with four goals and one
'assist led the Waxers in their. 10-0
romp over Mitchell. Eric Clay was
next within -two goal effort. Scoring
one goal apiece were -Ted Hoffman,
Chris McDonald, Ian Jean and Sean
McCann.
In the 2-1 Lucan victory over
Petrolia, Shawn Fairweather scored
both goals. David Damen picked up
•assists on 'both and Dylan England
and Jamie Lightfoot each helped on
one goal.

end of a n 8-5 verdict in Mitchell.
Tuesday. After spotting the visitors
an early one -goal lead, the hosts
scored three times in less than two
minutes near the midway mark of the
first and were never headed
Dave Skea was the top' marksman
for Exeter with a pair of tallies. Steve
McIntyre, George Pratt and Don
Hamilton contributed singles.
Pratt and Steve Gould picked up a
pair of assists each with singles going
to Andy Lerikos, Skea, MClntryre,
Brent Atthill and Brian Quinn.
Jason VanHaarlem worked bet-
ween the pipes and recorded 34 saves.
while John Simons had 28 for
Mitchell.
Broncos win
in Harriston
The Exeter Broncos won the 'B'
championship of a weekend atom
hockey tournament in Harriston.
They won the same title a year ago.
After losing the first game to
Hanover by a score of 5-3, the Bron-
cos bounced back to defeat Seaforth
3-1 and win the 'B' crown as the result
of a 3-2 victory over Durham.
In the first contest, Jason Heywood
led the Broncos with a two goal per-
formance. One came on an unassisted
effort and the other on a pass from
Allan McFalls.
The third goal was notched by cap-
tain Joel Smith as time was running
out in the third period. Smith was
named the most valuable player for
the Broncos.
A strong goal tending performance
by Richard Phillips earned him the
MVP award as the Broncos beat
Seaforth 3-1.
All goals in this game were scored
on unassisted efforts. Fred Godbolt,
Joel Smith and Jason Heywood were
the marksmen for the Broncos.
The same three players were the
Exeter goal scorers in the final vic-
tory over Durham. The only assist
went to Jeff Lingard.
In the final Ryan Lindenfield was
named the "most valuable for the
Broncos.
