Topnotch hockey
This weekend will provide plenty of opportunity for area
hockey fans to watch exciting tournament action on two fronts.
The sixth annual Lucan Cup Challenge goes at the Lucan Com-
munity Centre and at the South Huron Rec Centre in Exeter it's
the annual oldtimers tournament sponsored by the Exeter Molting
Hawks. Both tourneys start Friday night, continue all day Satur-
day and conclude with final championship games tate Sunday
afternoon and evening.
The Cyclone series is being held in conjunction with the Lucan
('up for the second year. Preliminarames were played this past
weekend setting up the "B" final contest at 7 p.m. between the
Stephen Stars and Seaforth. A t 9 p.m., the Lucan Lazers and Delhi
Gaters will meet for the grand championship.
President Tom Hardy and his hard working committee have
again been able to come up with 16 top notch teams from western
Ontario, the 'Toronto area and Michigan.
The defending champion Brooklin Flyers from Oshawa will
not be hack this year for the Lucan Cup and Goderich, winners
of the Cyclone division a year ago were eliminated in the just con-.
'eluded preliminaries.
Three" of the Michigan clubs are the Fraser Flags, Griffin Stars
and O'Leary. The always strong International Stick team from
Toronto will be back.
The Lucan Cup Challenge is now a complete community enter-
prise with support from a large number of groups. These include
in two
weekend area tournaments
minor hockey, local merchants, village council, the Lucan Lions,
the Lucan Optimists, both oldtimer teams, the arena board and
staff along with countless others.
The oldtimers tourney in Exeter will provide a good brand of
hockey from participants who must be at least 35 years of age. The

running smoothly.
PD Entertainment
Lynne Farquhar and her cohorts at the South Huron Rec Cen-
tre have lined up some great entertainment for today, Wednesday
as area school students enjoy a day off as the teachers participate
in Professional Development.
In the morning from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, a Walt Disney _film
entitled, "The Cat From Outer Space" will be shown. Very im-
portant is the news that the concession booth will be open during
intermission times.
In the afternoon, it's an hour and a half of free public skating
from 1:30 to 3 p.m.
Following the December 7 Santa Claus parade in Exeter,
another free sessiop of public skating is available at the Rec Cen-
tre. This free ice time is sponsored by Tuckey Beverages.
Lynne also reports plans are being completed for a mixed sno-
pitch tournament to be held at the Rec Centre grounds on January
11. It is expected 16 teams will participate.

The Exeter Lions club announced this week that Gordie Tapp
v ill be the master of ceremonies at the 1986 Lions Sportsmen's Din-
ner which is scheduled for the South Huron Rec Centre on Tues-
day, February 4.
Tapp who has a number of relatives in the area should cer-
tainly keep the dinner pace rolling with his well known humour.
Tickets for the dinner are available now from any Lions
member and would certainly make an excellent Christmas gift.
All proceeds from the dinner go to the Thames Valley Crippled
Children's Treatment Centre in London and also assists crippled
children in this area.
It's a worthy cause. Get your tickets early.
