In just six short years the Lucan
Cup Challenge has become a major
community effort with participation
and support coming from all areas of
the Lucan district.
From the original intent of putting
on a tourament to help support and
promote minor and amateur hockey
in the area, the Lucan Cup Challenge
has become an event that the village
looks forward to.
The LCC now involves local mer-
chants, minor hockey. the Village of
Lucan Council, both oldtimer teams,'
Optimists, Lucan rec league, Lions
club, arena board and staff and
countless others.
President Tom Hardy adds. "With
the addition of the Cyclone series it is
hoped that we can renew the
rivalaries of the early Cyclone league
which included such localities as
Lucan, Ilderton, Exeter, Seafor•th,
Lobo, Zurich and Centralia..
United Church baptism
The Sacrament of Infant Baptism
was celebrated Sunday morning at
Lucan United Church as Mr. Brown
baptized Courtney Dawn, daughter of
Mike and Donna Wraith, and David
Michael, son of Jarmo and Kathryn
Hietalahti.
Sue Barr, along with Eric, Ian and
Roshanna formed the welcome com-
mittee, and were also in charge of
receiving the offering. Alden Walker
read the Scripture portion for the day,
and John MacDonald told the boys
and girls the story of the Prodigal Son
and led them in prayer before they
left for Junior congregation.
Kit Hearn gave the monthly
"Minute for Missions" on behalf of
the Mission and Service Committee,
outlining some of the valuable ser-
vices performed by United Church
Chaplains in 38 hospitals across
Canada. The M. and S. Fund of the
Church helps support some of these
chaplaincies.
"The Christian and the Moral
Crisis" was Mr. Brown's sermon
theme as he continued studies in the
Book of Romans. "The moral stan-
dards which the Lord sets are design-
ed for our good, and to ignore them
is to bring disaster upon ourselves or
upon others," he said.
A Christian is committed to a life of
obedience to the Lord, and separation
from the evil so obvious and yet sub-
tle in today's world. We need to be
careful that the world does not
squeeze us into its current mold of ig-
noring God and living for money and
material benefits; of speaking pro-
fanity, lies and unkind words; or of
accommodating ourselves to ungod-
ly sexual standards.
Coming events: Wednesday at 8:30
p.m., the Friendship Unit of the
U.C.W. mets in the C.E. Wing of the
church. Thursday at 9:45 the Prayer
and Share Fellowship continue their
informal study in the Gospel of Luke.
All women of the community are
invited.
At 7:30 that evening is the Massed
Choir Practice in Lucan Sanctuary in
preparation for the Optimist Club's
Christmas concert. Immediately
following at 8:30, an expanded Lucan
choir begins their preparation for
special Christmas music. those who
can help with this project are urged
to be present.
At 8:30 also, the Couples' Club Ex-
