New coaching staff for Hawks
There were several big changes for
the Exeter Hawks this week, both on
and off the ice.
On the ice, the locals skated to a 7-4
win over Thedford on home ice, Fri-
day, and then held the southern divi-
sion leading Bulldogs to a 3-1 victory
right in Mt. Brydges the following
night to complete their best weekend
showing of the current season.
Off the ice, coach Peter Gill has
been replaced, although the status of
the triumvirate named to fill the
vacancy.is still somewhat in 'limbo.
Former Hawks coach Ron Bogart
has agreed to assist as much as possi-
ble, but due to other commitments
has indicated that will primarily be
in practice sessions with the team:
Bench duties will be looked after by
Jim Pfaff and current manager Cam
Stewardson.
The Hawks played in Mitchell last
night and local fans will have their
first opportunity to see the effects of
the recent changes on Friday when
the Lucan Irish visit the rec centre.
The Irish drubbed the Hawks in the
first meeting in Lucan.
Sunday, the locals will travel to
Clinton to tackle the Mustangs, one of
three teams they've managed to beat
so far this season.
Best Browns
The Hawks picked up their third
win of the season as they scored three
times in the third period to post a 7-4
triumph over the Thedford Browns.
George Pratt, who is having con-
siderable success around the opposi-
tion's net this season, paced the
Hawks with a hat trick performance,
with two of those coming on
powerplays.
Ian Munroe, Dave Skea, Steve
Gould and Andy Lerikos added the
singles. Brian Blackburn picked up
two assists to lead in that department,
while drawing singles were Gould,
Munroe, Lerikos, Skea and Don
Hamilton.
Bell atoms

The Exeter Bell atoms dropped a
5-2 decision to St. Marys in a Satur-
day atom houseleague hockey game.
Brent Miron and Jeremy . Brock
were the marksmen for the Exeter
club.
Jeff Laporte worked between the
pipes and was credited with 52 saves
in playing a major role in the victory.
The Hawks had 49 shots in the free-
wheeling contest. •
Both squads scored twice in
powerplay attempts as the Browns
sat out 11 of the 21 penalties called.
The totals included fighting majors
and game misconducts to Scott
Bogart of the Hawks and Mark
Ansems of the Browns.
Hold Bulldogs
While most of the Exeter faithful
were expecting another lopsided loss
when the Hawks travelled to Mt.
Brydges, Saturday, they were more
than pleasantly surprised.
After spotting the hosts a one -goal
margin in the first, the Hawks knot-
ted the count early in the second and
continued to hold the Bulldogs at bay
until they potted two in the final
frame to get the victory.
Steve Gould fired Exeter's lone tal-
ly on -a play with Jeff Pfaff and Scott
Bogart.
Jason VanHaarlem was in net for
the locals and played some stellar
hockey, although shots on goal were
not recorded.
