Proverb roll gall
Eighteen members and two visitors
attended the November meeting of
the Clandeboye Women's Institute,
held at the home of 'Mrs. Roy
Cunningham.
The ladies arrived at noon to enjoy
a delicious pot luck dinner. ,The
members with birthdays from
January to June brought the first
course while !he July to December
birthdays supplied the dessert.
Mrs. Jack Rosser. North Middlesex
District'. W.I. president was a special
guest and brought greetings from the
district. In her message to the branch
she spoke of the W.I. motto, "For

resolutions that the W.I. have in-
stigated and were able to have pass-
ed in the Legislature.
She stressed the importance of ac-
cepting office in the organization, it
is so easy to' say "let someone else
take over, I've had my day". She
quoted, "Never be bothered by what
people say. unless you know it is right.
Everytime you help someone up the
ladder. you are nearer 'the top.
yourself.
This year has been the "Year of the
Youth" and Women's Institutes spon-
,oring 4-H clubs are making -a great
zontribution to youth.

Curator was in charge of the pro-
gram. The roll call was, "Name a
Proverb or old saying". Following a
reading about autograph books and
old sayings, Jean introduced Mrs.
Marie Hodgins of London. whose hob-
by is doll collecting.
Marie told the ladies how she
became interested in dolls, having
over 300 dolls now in her collection.
She brought with her a large baby's
bassinette filled with several of her
more interesting and mechanical
for 11111
dolls, all of which she described and
passed around for all the ladies to en-
joy. Her more valuable and larger
dolls she showed through pictures in
a photograph album.
Some of the members 4rought•old
dolls to the meeting, hoping Marie
could tell them how valuable they are,
or if they could be restored. Needless
to say, everyone enjoyed this unusual
program. Donations of various ar-
ticles for the Cancer Cupboard in
Thameswood Lodge was brought to
the meeting.
During the business it was decided
to have the December meeting follow-
ing dinner at Robindale's Fine Dining
in Exeter.
The 4-H Homemaking Achievement
Day will be held at East Williams
School at Nairn onfDecember 3 at 7:30
p.m. The Lucan clubs hold their
Achievement Day on November 23 at
1 p.m. at Lucan Scout Hall.
President, gisie Lewis, thanked the
hostess and the special guests and ad-
journed the meeting.
Dale and Helen Bulanda and girls
have returned froma two week visit
with Helen's family in Edmonton.

A euchre party was held. in Neil's
schoolhouse November 11 with 10
tables playing.
Prizes went to high score Marian
Thompson. Otto Darling. Lone hands
Freida Rollings and ;Hurray Carter
Low score Blanche Ilodgins,and Jack
Hamilton.
Next euchre is on November 25 and
will be convened by Joe and Margaret
Carter and Charlie and Freida
Rollings.
Miss Donna Ireland spent a few
days last week in 'Toronto.
TOM KOOY
Mary Kooy had a few ladies in to
quilt, Monday and Tuesday evening
Mrs. Jean Millar. Marian Noels and
Helen Macdonald for euchre.
Faith Tabernacle held their pre -
Christmas dinner in Exeter, Friday
evening. There was a large turnout
and singing of Christmas carols was
enjoyed after dinner.
Mr. and Mrs. Brent Caslick and
Gregory spent the weekend with their
parents in the Cargill area.
Tom and Mary Kooy were Sunday
guests with Mr. and- Mrs. Ron
Snelgrove, Crediton.

Hallowe'en Events - At Stephen
Central School the students and
teachers had different events. There
was bobbing for apples or you had
your choiet to bite an apple off the
string. There also was pumpkin car-
ving and door prizes. Our door, Room
5. got second prize. Costumes were
judged in the gym and then everyone
'paraded in the halls. Prizes were
given also. Everyone had a glass o(
orange drink for a treat. I hope
everybody had a good time because

Door Winners - Hallowe'en was a
big hit at Stephen Central School.
There were may different activities.
One of them was decorating door win-
dows. The student council had a hard
time judging the doors but they finally
came up with.a first, second, third
and fourth for each division. The
primary division winners were first,
the grade 2. 3 class. Second, the
kindergarten class. Third, the grade
1,2 class and fourth the grade 1 class.
The junior division winners were
first, the.grade 3 class, second, the
grade 5 class and third the French
room, fourth, the Special Education
class and fifth the grade4 class. The
intermediate division winners were
first, the grade 8 class. Second the
grade 6 class, third the grade 7 class,
and fourth the Library. All the doors
- were decorated very nicely. - David

Costume Winners - Hallowe'en Day
Stephen Central School had a costume
contest. The categories were the fun-
niest, the scariest. the most original
and couples. The winners for
kindergarten and grades one and two
were first Meagan Ratz, second Brian
Lovie, third Amanda Weigand. They
were the funniest.
Winners for the scariest were first
Mellissa Thiel, second place Jo -Dee
Grasdahl and Brandon Palmer, third
Matthew Turnbull and Lisa Clarke.
Best costumed couples were first
Lynn and Carrie Brownlee, second
Denise Parsons and Greg Hendrick,
third Elizabeth Fitzgerald and Jason
Neil.
The winners for most original were
first Melissa Hayter, tied for second
Alisha Jennison and Jeff Inch, tied for
third Connie Durward and Chris
Lynn. In grades three and four the
categories were the same. The
scariest winners were first Murray
McKay, second Trevor Struth, third
ChadBennewies. Winners for the fun-
niest were Tracy Riley, tied for se-
cond place Kevin King and Doug
Jones, third Ryan Ratz. The winners
in the original category were first
Lisa Robertson, tied in second place
Cam Sweiger and Candace Miller.

O'Rourke. •
Grades five and six for couples
were: first Andy Hicks and Darcy
Brintnell, second Honey Willemsen
and Kelly Austin, third Derek Desjar-
dine and Shane Pfaff. Original win-

Grades seven and eight winners

port. Winners for the couples were:

done the costumes were paraded

Pumpkin Contest - This year in
Stephen Central School we had a
hallwe'en party. One of the things we
had was a pumpkin contest. You had
to decorate your pumpkin in any
way. Winners were: kindegarten,
grade one, two - Lori Guenther,
Christopher Wilhelm. Shannon
Wuerth, Robert Elder, Alisha Jen-
nison. There were 20 entries in that
group
,Winners in grade three. four and
five were: Todd Mellin, Jodi Desjar-
dine, Carla Taylor and Kevin King.
There were 29 entries in this group.
In grade six, seven and eight winners
were: Gia King, Derek Dinney Robert
Kramer, Jeff Sweitzer. There were
only six entries in this group. I think
it was very successful and very hard

Dagwood Sandwiches - November
6, room 4 had a special lunch which
included Dagwood sandwiches. We
made our own sandwiches. Everyone
in the grade six class had to bring
something to put on the sandwiches.
We had turnip, tomato, hard boiled
eggs, pickles, lettuce, banana, cheese
slices, jam, cucumbers and carrots.
For dessert there were cookies. muf-

fins and brownies. It was delicious. -

Remembrance Day ; Our Remem-
brance Day assembly was held at 2
p.m. on Monday, November 11. The
classes that participated were rooms
1.4 and 10. Principal Mr. Finkbeiner,
helped with it. There was song by the
Jr. choir, 'I Want to Teach the World
to Sing.' Karen McKay was the soloist
in that song. Grade 1 sang a song call-
ed 'The Soldiers Went to War' and
they also held up Remembrance Day
symbols. Grade 6 read stories about
peace. There were also wreath laying
ceremonies, when each mom laid a
wreath. Some boys and girls that
belong to Brownies, Beavers„ Cubs
and Guides etc. wore their uniforms.
The legion members from Exeter
visited us as well. It was a very mean-

Central School will be filled witha
