SUM MFRS Granton Commencement exercises at Med way Iligh School. Arva were held Fri- day evening. Granton area Students receiving their Grade 13 honors Graduation Diplomas were Chad Anderson, John Herbert. Glyn Knapman, Margaret McGuffin and Julie McRobert. Ontario Scholarship awards for average marks of 80 percent and over were received by Chad Anderson, John Herbert, and Margaret McGuf- fin. ('had Anderson also received the Donald MacKenzie Memorial Award highest marks in grade 13 english . John Herbert gave the , Valedic- torian address and received the grade 1:3 academic proficiency award from Biddulph township, the Carter scholarship award, the Staff award - highest average in three grade 13 mathematics. the grade academic proficiency award - the Middlesex County Board•ol Education and the Medway Student Council Proficiency award. Congratulations to all the award winners. ('lunch \ens At the Granton United Church Rev. Bruce Pierce was- in charge of the Sunday morning worship and took the text for his sermon from the Scripture Lesson. taken from Hebrews 12:1-13 and entitled his .lftessage "Lest We - Forget". • We are honoring those that laid down their lives for us, they lived by Faith. that is the way`that we are call- ed by God to live. In the childrens story the minister tried to tell them how not to be bored. such as go outside and find someone to play tag with. The Provincial wreath was placed in the Church in memory of those who had lost their lives in two wars. At St. Thomas Anglican Churoh Rev. Peter Derrick was in charge of the morning • prayer service. The Crucifer was Susan Kilpatrick and pianist was Lois Herbert. The two lessons were read by Kenneth Beat - son and Muriel Lewis. It being Remembrance Day on Monday, the 'Province of Ontario Wreath was plac- ed in the church. A Rev. Derrick preached his sermon on the collect of the day. "We should learn, listen, mark and inwardly digest the Holy Scriptures and especially memorize the important verses. This also refers to Bible Study as well. St. Thomas :Anglican Church Women The A.C.W. held their meeting at the home of Mrs. Jack Noon, Thurs- day evening. President Mrs. Don Roloson opened the meetingwith the Invocation and Meditation taken from the Living Message, The Scripture reading taken from John 15:9-17, was read by the Rev. Peter Derrick. In business plans were made for the annual bazaar, to be held in the church hall on Saturday November 16 from 2-4 p.m. A delicious lunch was served by the hostess. Granton United Church Women Unit ( 1 ) met at the home of Presi- dent Mrs. Doreen McRobert on November 7 Mrs. McRobert opened the meeting with Scripture. the Roll Call was "Tell something you are thankful for." During the business session the hot beef dinner which will be held in the United Church on Wednesday November 13. Plans were made as to what everyone was to bring towards the dinner and what duties each member was responsible fora • Mrs. John Forest. delegate to Alma College School for women conference, gave an excellent report dealing with the Heritage, Rights. and conditions of our Native Canadians. Mrs. Forest also brought back a good report on the Conference itself. Mrs:Eileen Summers who attend- ed the. one day 50th anniversary celebrations for Alma College, gave a report on the workshop she attend- ed entitled "The Lost and The Lonely". Rev. Pierce closed the meeting with the Benediction and the hostess serv- ed a tasty lunch. Unit (4) held their meeting at the home of hers. Nora Wissel Wednesday evening. Mrs. Gary Humphrey presided and opened the meeting with • Scripture from Matthew 6: verse 34, followed by a Meditation "One Day at a Time" and prayer. During business upcoming beef supper was discussed and the election of officers resulted in the same slate being reelected. Mrs. Verda Tate and Mrs. Florence Riddell were responsible for the pro- gram. Mrs. Tate read an article from the Mandate "The purpose of the study is to assist Christians to affirm the identity and rights of Native North Americans.•' Mrs. Tate read a story "Breaking free and standing tall." IRVIN RADER Dashwood Women's Institute' met Tuesday evening November 5 with the Cultural Activities group in charge and conveners Mrs. Ifilda Rader. Mrs. Earl Keller and Mrs. Frieda Keller. President Mrs. Emil Becker welcomed everyone and by means of- a scale described the balance of Nature. Fourteen members answered the roll call —What -country did your ancestors come fro►n''" There were several guests present. Mrs. Harvey Beierling and Mary Rader gave reports on the London Area convention. Mrs. Eben Wei gand • reported .on the F'aIl Rally held at Thames Road. Donations for Christmas were made to the Men's Club. Family and Children's Services, Cystic Fibrosis and the Children's Hospital of Western Ontario. Mrs. Ililda Rader presided for the program. Mrs. Earl Keller discussed the Motto. "The pioneers worked hard for their chosen Horne and Country". What have we learned from them? Mrs. Rader called on her special guest. Tammy Re!;temayer a grad( 7 pupil at Zurich Public school who had on display a pioneer village she had made as a school project. She gave a very interesting account of pioneers. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Howard Hodgins of Treasure Island, Florida visited with Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Hodgins and Lois Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Hodgins visited with Mrs. Myrtle Rodd of Queensway Nursing Home Friday and also called on Mrs. Alma Langford and Mr. and Mrs. Ross Langford, Exeter. Mr. and Mrs. Forbes Powell of Stoney Creek spent two days with Mrs. Powell's sister Mrs. Eileen Summers. 4-H News The sixth meeting of the Granton "Honeybun" was held at the home of Deane Beatson. Members talked about Achievement Day re- quirements. They also talked about what to bring for the bake sale and did posters for the bake sale display. It will be held November 23 at the Lucan Scout Hall at 1 p.m. everyone is welcome. Church News A joint memorial service was held in the St. Thomas Anglican Church Monday November 11 prior to the wreath laying ceremony at the Monu- ment, with members of the Lucan Legion attending. Rev. Peter Derrick was in charge of the Service assisted by Rev. Bruce Peirce of the United Church. In his Meditation the Rev. Derrick said "The trouble with us, is that the human race have short memories, wars and rumors*of wars persist. Ultimately nations will stop fighting against nations." then Rev. Derrick referred to "Flanders Fields" the poem. ACW meets at Saintsbury By MRS. HEBER DAVIS Service was at St. Patrick's Sunday morning with Rev. Peter Derrick in charge. Next Sunday service will be held at 8;45. The congregation is planning a dessert euchre and bake sale on Wednesdaty, November 14 in the Parish Hall at 1 p.m. The ACW was held at the home of Mrs. Hazel Eaton Thursday afternoon with a good attendance. Marguerite Greenlee was in charge. The meeting opened with prayers and scripture reading and the medita- tion. Secretary Mary Jefferies read the minutes of the last meeting and Mary Davis gave the treasurer's report. Money was voted to Si Monica House. Plans were made for a dessert euchre and the Sunday School Christmas party. HUGH MORENZ Shipka The Bakers Dozen 4-H club, Grand Bend two, met November 4 in the lower lounge of Sauble Court on Gill Road. A number of seniors joined the group of young folks. With Nola Love's accompaniment at the piano, they sang a number of songs for the Senior citizens. Ross Love entertained with some violin music, telling the young folk, he never had lessons and plays all by ear. The 4-H club members had all brought decorated cupcakes which they serv- ed to all, along with a cup of tea and gingerale. The remainder of the evening Was spent- playing games of euchre, air - wolf and dominoes with the Seniors. Thursday night the Bakers Dozen met at Brenda Love's home to begin work on their display for Achieve- ment Day. Their home assignment is to bring their record books up.to date. Next meeting to be at Ann Russell's home. Achievement 4-H day will be T -A photo Dozen 4.H meet held at Stephen Centra! school November 18, at 7 p.m. All welcome. At its November 7 meeting, Huron County Council rectified the situation which saw the two groups overlook- ed at the atlas' "coming out" party last month. - Warden Paul Steckle presented chief librarian William Partridge with a copy of the atlas to be displayed at the county library's head office in Goderich.
