Hawks drubbed
in two junior tilts
The Exeter Hawks sustained two
severe drubbings over the weekend to
remain down in the depths of the
southern division of the Western
Junior "D" loop.
At home, Friday, the locals were
bombed 10-1 by the Mt. Brydges
Bulldogs and in Sea forth. Sunday. the
host Centenaires dominated play to
post a 14-3 verdict.
The Hawks have registered only
two wins and a tie in their first 13
games for five points. They trail the
fourth place Thamesford Trojans by
six points for the final playoff spot.
Exeter has managed only 49 goals,
while allowing the opposition 113.

Atoms gain
an even split
The Exeter Bell atoms gained an
even split in two minor hockey games
this week. Saturday, they were
swamped 12-0 by Zurich and Sunday
it was an impressive 4-2 victory over
St. Marys.
Scott Parsons led the win over St.
Marys with a two goal effort. Scoring
in single fashion were Tim Hoffman
and Derek Beckett while Jason Clay
turned in a strong performance in
goal.
Pete Overholt was tops for Zurich
with a four goal effort.
JOIN THE CROWD
This week could provide the Hawks
with one of their best opportunities to
improve their record. Friday night
they host the Thedford Browns, the
only team in either division to have
fewer points. Thedford have a win
and two ties, one of the latter coming
in the season opener against the
Hawks.
On Saturday, the Hawks travel to
Mt. Brydges and then play in Mitchell
on Tuesday. Their namesakes in Mit-
chell have four wins in 14 games and
are in fifth place in the northern
division.
In Seaforth, Sunday, the locals pro-
vided little protection for goalie Mar-
ty Merner as he faced a barrage of 74
shots in (he one-sided affair.
The Centenaires scored six times in
the first, added five more in the se-
cond and then coasted through the
final frame with three markers.
The Hawks picked up single tallies
in each frame. George Pratt had a
pair and Sean Whiteford notched the
other. Whiteford added an assist and
also helping out on one marker each
were Brent Dawson, Steve Gould and
Jeff Pfaff.
Dawson and Brian Blackburn were
tossed out in the third with a couple
of Seaforth players with whom they
grappled.
Exeter had only one minor penalty
.to go with the two majaors, while
Seaforth sat out three minors and the
two majors. The hosts scored on one
powerplay attempt and added a short-
handed goal as well.
Butdogs rip
The Hawks scored early in Friday's
home game against Mt. Brydges, but
that was the lone bright spot as the
Bulldogs went on to post a convincing
10-1 victory.
Exeter managed only 27 shots on
goal in the game. while Jeff Laporte
was facing 62 at the other end of the
rink. 'i he game was closely played
through the first stanza, but then the
locals appeared to wilt under the
pressure and offered 'only minor
resistance.
Mike Bedard notched the lone Ex-
eter tally on a pass from Steve
McIntyre.
Exeter sat out six minors. while the
Bulldogs had seven.
