HomeMy WebLinkAboutTimes-Advocate, 1985-11-06, Page 14Hallowe'en at Woodham ay MISS JEAN-COPELAND The Messengers held their Hallowe'en party Friday evening under the direction of leaders, Mrs. Ross McCurdy and Mrs. Rob Mossey. The welcome was given by the group. Jeffrey and Joel Presczcator told jokes and Jeff gave a recitation. Several took part in a choral reading, "A Hallowe'en Party". Shana Mossey gave a recitation. A skit was put on by Steven Wheeler, Sarah Bradford, Amy Webb and Dar- ryl Brine. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Brine acted as judges for the masquerade. Following were the winners: PreSchool and Kindergarten - Best representation, Nicole Zwaan; Best comic, Rebecca Preszcator, Courtney Mossey; Best Homemade - Jeffrey Mossey. Grades 1, 2 and 3 - Best rep. Craig Wheeler, Joel Preszcator; Best com- ic - Randy McCurdy, Bridget Brad- ford; Best homemade - Holly Zwaan, Gordon Webb. Grades 4, 5 and 6 - Best rep. Sarah Bradford, Janice Hazlewood; Best comic, Nathan Webb, Jeff Preszcator; Best homemade - Amy Webb, Bobby Wheeler. Grades 7 and 8 - Best rep. Grand Bend United Church with Susan Hoeppner on flute and Robert Kortgaard, piano. It was a delightful evening. Lots of little ones were out Hallowe'en night but all were order- ly and polite. It was just great having them call. Flowers in Zion Lutheran church Sunday were placed by the family of Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Devine in honour of their 45th wedding anniversary. Joe and Judy Simpson and Patricia, London, spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Mason. Band Christmas party The Dashwood Seaforth Band held their annual Christmas Party at the Town and Country bowling lanes Saturday night with 50 people sitting down to a delicious turkey supper. Following supper a short meeting was held. A motion was made that everyone keep their position. It was decided to keep the band going again. Bowling and card games were en- joyed by all. Prizes went to Men's high, Jack Gaiser; men's low, Frank Vanberger; ladies high, Gertie Stade; ladies low, Nancy Andreassi. Door prizes were won by Sid Lawson, Charlie Toll and Jim Roberton. Mrs. Flossie Cudmore (Kleinstiver) was taken by surprise Sunday at her RR 2 Grand Bend home on the occasion of her 75th birthday when members of her family (20) called to wish her "Happy Birthday" and visit. Elgin Kipfer underwent surgery at St. Joseph's Hospital London. Mrs. Harry Smith, Hensall, brought her 86 -year-old aunt, Mrs. Neva McEwen from Edmonton, Alberta, to visit Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Miller. Costume party at Centralia B y Mrs. TOM KOOY A very successful Hallowe'en par- ty was held at the community centre October 28 when the young people of Faith Tabernacle dressed in bibical costume had an enjoyable evening. Prizes went to best costumes follow- ed by lunch. Hallowe'en evening a Hallowe'en party was held at the community cen- tre organized fly Centralia -Huron Park Lions Club and sponsored by Centralia Village. Prizes were won by Lisa Arnold, Tanya Deville, Peter Gibson, Billy Hodge, Jennifer Cronyn, Jacqui Ar- nold, Rosemary Glavin, Sheldon Snell, Chad Kenny and Jamie Tomes. The children enjoyed free hot dogs and pop. Centralia -Huron Park Lions club held a Hallowe'en party at J.A.D. McCurdy school and served free hot dogs and pop. The first euchre party of the season was held at Neil's schoolhouse Oc- tober 28 with nine tables playing. Prizes went to High score Ann Gilmour, Lawrence Hirtzel; Lone hands, Freida Rollings, Tom Kooy; Low score, Charlotte Barker, Glen Hodgins. Next euchre will be November 11 convened by Jack and Ann Gilmour and Bill and Marlyn Dixon. The sympathy of the community goes out to the Smith and Lawrence families of Huron Park in the death of Mrs. Cathy (Lawrence) Smith. Smash boxes at Saintsbury By MRS. HEBER DAVIS Rev. P. Derrick was in charge of morning prayer Sunday, Mrs. Wayne Carroll was pianist and Mrs. Hugh Davis and Paul Bedell were readers. During the children's focus Rev. Derrick spoke to the children on the difference in a house and a home and during his sermon spoke on "Saints" Service. Next Sunday service is planned for 11:30 a.m. and the A.C.W. will meet Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Hazel Eaton. Hallowe'en is over once again and - some slap happy persons "enjoyed" smashing up a few mail boxes again this year. Other than that the little ghosts and goblins enjoyed themselves. Mrs. Lorne Barker and Mrs. Heber Davis, great grandmother and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Barker, grandparents attended the service of Holy Baptism at St. Aidan's Church in London Sun- day afternoon when about 20 relatives and friends gathered for the occasion. Kelly Louise Beaune, daughter of Joan and Bob Beaune, London was baptised by Canon C. Brown. God- parents were her aunt Mrs. Jean Richardson and 'friends Dean and Betty Gauthier, London. After the ceremony the friends were entertained to dinner at the Beaune home on Waterloo street where Canon Brown proposed a toast to Kelly Louise. Busy schedule for school choir B y ALICE DICKENS The North Middlesex Districh High School choir of Parkhill have been. busy the last two weeks. Recently they sang at a concert at Althouse as well as at a banquet for Suberan- nuated Teachers of Ontario, held at the Lamplighter, London, at their fall luncheon on October 24. Mrs. Evelyn McNaughton ably in- troduced the well-known choir which is going to Expo '86. After hearing the fine performance the 400 persons in attendance knew why. Those attending from this area were Mrs. Marie Campbell, Mrs. McNaughton, Mrs. John Donaldson and Margaret Wilson. Mrs. Fair9Ripley visited recent- ly with Mrs. Janet Rose. These films, A song for Arthur, Pro- ud Beginnings, Land of Distant Peaks will be shown at the Activity Centre on November 8 at 7:30 p.m. All seniors are welcome.
