Nall For Village of Lucan Councillor on November 12, 1985 Re-elect Bryan p. Smith X I am seriously interested in the future and well being of our community Revival Centre The morning's service was opened by Nello Romagnoli who led the con- gregation in choruses and hymn. The sermon was entitled'Hope. The words Faith, Hope and Love are found consistently in Paul's writings in the New Testament and he: sees these three concepts - Faith, Hope and Love, a major part of the Christian faith. Love and Faith are derived from Hope. The term Hope that we use to- day is completely different from the Biblical meaning. Hope is used as a vague possibility in our daily situa- tions. Because we are so used to us- ing the word hope as something that has small chance of happening, we may think this way also of our Hope of Heaven. When the Bible uses the word Hope it means an absolute cer- tainty. Secure confidence in God's ab- solute reliableness is what hope is. David in the Old Testament en- courages believers to hope in God and be secure and confident in Him. David confesses the fact that he has absolute confidence in God and that He is reliable. Titus give Hope as a content and joyful expectation of our eternal future. It is not a vague possibility that is based on our earning it. It is not insecure optimism but it is something that we can be secure in knowing that we can be secure in knowing that it will be ours. The word also tells us that by hear- ing the word of truth, the gospel, we will know of the hope laid up for us in Heaven. Hope is based on the promises of God and gives security to the future: When we excercise hope we talk of future things' If there is no hope, there is no faith and if a person •is hopeless there is no love. If there is no atmosphere of Hope then Faith and Love die. • The message of the Gospel is of great hope. We live in a world where there is,absolute hopelessness and` despairity. A person who is hopeless and despairing eventually thinks of suicide. The message of Calvary is a total- ly positive and a hopeful message that gives us Hope for now and the future. Wes Stanley read the Scripture lesson, and Marguerite McRoberts told the boys and girls a story about Bobby and Bruce Who realizeakow important it is to follow God's way and not take things that belong to others. Ruthanne Curtis, along with Mary Holden and other Junior Helpers assisted leader Freeda Melanson with Junior Church which followed stroy time. Rev. Brown's sermon theme was "Life in the Spirit", as he continued the series on the book of Romans, chapter 9. The coming of the Holy Spirit into our lives when we believe in Christ gives the power to obey god, and delivers us from fruitless striv- ing to obey God in our own strength. The Holy Spirit within us is the greatest gift God could offer, for it gives us a new close relationship with Him and an inner assurance that we are indeed the loved children of our. Heavenly Fattier. But as this point we can lose the blessing He intends for us if we con- tinue to follow our own selfish desires. Instead, we must deliberately choose to obey His Spirit within us, allowing Him to direct us. "The Christian life is not simply a Sundgy stroll with Jesus," said Mr. Brown. "It is a dai- ly commitment to follow the Spirit." k Flowers in the sanctuary were from the funeral of the late Mrs. Mary Morkin. The sympathy of the con- gregation is extended to her family.
