E. • Battling for the 1985 H -P senior football conference champion- = ship will be the South Huron Panthers and the Goderch Vikings. s. This confrontation is becoming an almost annual event. This year the two clubs are very evenly matched havinglost only one game each and the losses were to each other. The margin of victory in each case was eight points which just adds to the an- ticipation of an exciting and close contest, Saturday. The only ad- = vantage the Vikings may have is playing on friendly grounds at = home. Goderich won home field advantage for the final contest by the flip of a coin. It was the only method remaining to decide the it issue after the point differences were identical. - Best of luck to coach Ron Bogart and the Panthers as they at- tempt bring another HuronPgirth title to the local school. and should have been caught. If Clarke had made the catch, the Kansas City rally would have probably been nipped in the bud and Who did lose it? the Cards would be wearing World Series rings today. While the World Series has been history for almost two weeks We are fairly safe in saying that the errors or midjudgements we still hear complaints that the St. Louis Cards lost to, Kansas made by umpires are considerably less than those made by players City tcause of terrible umpiring calls. • and managers. if managers didn't make mistakes they would iIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII11111111111111n11111IIIIIII111111111mlinunnuuuuni unn011111II;IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIImIIIIIIIIIIIImunn11 mnunuu inullluu ilii IIIu111u11IUIIi1InIIIIuuu101i0116iiiii 11100nuiiim8 f888881118811118811811118111118888 llllntliiiiiiimiiiiminlllllmtnii tuntutnu ttimmiiiimuuumulunmtnnuutuuullll taloa Play in Goderich, Saturday We will agree that the first Kansas City batter in the bottom of the ninth in the sixth game was safe, but, nobody seems to remember what happened on the next play. It was a popup near the St. Louis dugout that first baseman Jack Clarke misjudged. It was at least three feet out in the open sports spotlight by Ross Haugh never be fired and that has become part of not only baseball, but, 8 all major league sports. There are five new coaches in the NHL this season. Lots of hockey action Just a reminder that top notch hockey games are on tap at the South Huron Rec Centre at least six nights a week throughout most of the winter months. Three Exeter minor hockey teams are competing in the Shamrock schedule at home each Wednesday night, the Exeter Hawks are at the Rec Centre most Friday nights and Sunday night at 7:30 p.m. is a regular date to see the strong Exeter Mohawks in OHA Intermediate "C" ranks show their stuff. Add to this the high flying action of the Exeter Molting Hawks each Monday night at 9:30 p.m. and doubleheaders each Tuesday and Thursday in the Exeter and district men's recreation hockey league and it makes for a full menu of chasing the puck. While speaking of the Hawks, they are selling tickets on a draw for two tickets to the November 24 Grey Cup football game in Mon- treal. Included is transportation and two nights accommodation in the Quebec City. The draw is this Saturday night. Panthers' advance to H'P senior final The South Huron Panthers geared up for this week's Huron -Perth con- ference senior football final with a convincing 51-1 victory Thursday afternoon over the Listowel Lords in a semi-final game. . The Panthers will be in Goderich at 1:30 p.m. Saturday to take on the Goderich Vikings for the third time this, year. In previous games between the two clubs, each won one game and the margin of victory in each case was eight points. a' In the other semi-final Thursday. the Vikings of Goderich swept past Stratford Northwestern by a score of 50-0. The Panthers were very effective both ways against Listowel. The of- fence gained a total of 525 yards. This came by way of 418 yards rushing, 82 yards by way of the pass and 25 yards on Listowel penalties. The South Huron team went ahead by 13-0 in the first quarter as Bill Fisher ran 18 yards for one touchdown And Scott Bogart hauled in a 20 yard pass from Scott Miller for the other. Steve Gould booted one ex- tra point. After Listowel's only point came on a 60 yard single early in the second Qt>.arter. Trevor. Johnston and Scott Baptist combined to tackle a Listowel ball carrier in the end zone for a two point safety and in a reverse from an rlier touchdown pass Scott Bogart hit Scott Miller with a 25 yard 4,ezial good for a Major *score which Steve Gould converted. The Panthers scored three in the third period to put the game out of reach of the Lords. The three touchdowns were counted REVERSES ROLE — Quarterback Scott Miller was on the other end of this pass in the Panthers 51-1 win over Listowel in the Huron -Perth semi-final, Thursday. Scott.Bogart took the handoff from Miller and then found the latter near the Listowel goal line for a major score. by Sean Whiteford, Bill Fisher and Sean O'Rourke. Steve Gould con- verted all three. The O'Rourke touchdown came from five yards out after Roger Ward and Scott Baptist had blocked a Listowel punt. A long Listowel pass of 55 yards went for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter, but. it was called pack for illegal motion. The seventh South Huron touchdown came as the result of the highlight of the game. Allan Pym caught a Listowel punt, crossed over and gave the ball to Rick Gilfillan on a reverse and he went 82 yards down the sideline before running out of gas on the 15 yard line. From here O'Rourke and Whiteford took the ball down to the one yard line where backup quarterback Gerry Lamport went in for the six points. The ball was snapped high on the convert attempt so Scott Miller pass- ed to Sean Whiteford and a two point conversion. Bill Fisher led the South Huron run- ning backs with 180 yards in 14 car- ries. The longest gain was 35 yards. Sean Whiteford gained 85 yards in nine attempts and Scott Miller was good for 90 yards on eight tries at the opposing line. The top tacklers on defence were Scott Heywood with nine key stops, Trevor Johnston and Steve Wilkinson with seven apiece and Scott Baptist and Joe Gower with five each. Bap- tist and Joe Gower with five each. Baptist and Roger Ward were credited with sacks.
