at Centralia

We say "welcome" to Mr. and Mrs.
Bill Van Bergen and Jeremy former-
ly of Huron Park to the home they
purchased from Mrs. Clara Cunn-
ington. Also to Mr. and Mrs. Keith
Durward and family who have mov-
ed into the Jolly house on Richmond
street.
Mr. and Mrs. Ron Snelgrove and
Rob are in the process of moving to
Main Street in Crediton. The
Ferguson home on Victoria Street
where they have lived has been sold
to Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Hartford and
family, Huron Park.
Friday dinner guests with Tom and
Mary Kooy were Harry and Marian
Noels, Helen MacDonald and Mary
Davis all of Lucan and Bonnie and
Clyde Kooy, Huron Park. Clyde re-
mained for the weekend.
Mrs. Carol Mills had a very suc-
cessful open house Saturday and Sun-
day when she showed how very ar-
tistic she is in making wedding
flowers and crafts of all kinds. Some
people couldn't wait until Saturday
and called on her Friday evening.
The euchre party in the communi-
ty centre had 15 tables playing con-
vened by Harry and Marian Noels,
Helen MacDonald and Jack Dickins
with prizes going to high score Joyce
Willert, Russell Brown. Lone hands
Margaret Carter, Charlie Rollings.
Lucky no. Dorothy Darling. Nelson
Squires.
Next party November 4 will be con-
vened by Joe and Margaret Carter,
Mrs. Meikle, Mrs. Regier and Nelson
Squire.

About 60 adults and children attend-
ed the messengers Hallowe'en party
in Thames Road Church Saturday
afternoon. Rev. Robert and Mrs.
Matheson were the judges.
The following received prizes:

A smorgasbord lunch of sand-
wiches and cookies and a cold drink
was then partaken of. The leaders of
the messengers are Mrs. Dennis
Rowe and Mrs. Gerry Morgan.

Eleven ladies from Thames Road
were guests on Wednesday evening
with Elimville ladies when they enter-
tained several other U.C.W. groups.
Mrs. Agnes King of Hickson was the
guest speaker. Mrs. Ross Hargreaves
of Kintore was also in attendance.

UCW to make carrot pudding

The fall Thank-ottermg meeting of
the United Church was held October
8 when president, Mary Clark open-
ed the meetng with a poem "Give
thanks to the Lord".
During the worship, Janice Karr
gavethoughts of thanksgiving, Mary
Sutherland read th$ scripture, and
Jean Maguire read an item on 'thanks
be to the Lord'. Two hymns were sung
followed by prayer by Janice.
Mary Scafe introduced 16 year old
Debbi Gawne, of Parkhill area, who
told how she became a winner of a
public speaking contest at the United
Nations in New York City.
Following this, Charlene McNair
tap-danced. Gertrude Rosser
presented both with a gift.
We accepted an invitation to attend
the Presbyterian church November 3.
A letter from the Regional president,
Mrs. Elliott McKichan was read. The
sunshine convener reported sending
seven cards to shut-ins.
Making carrot puddings is schedul-
ed twice in November and last minute
plans for the Christmas Cupboard
Bazaar November 16 are being made.
Happy Gang
The Happy Gang seniors entertain-
ed the Sunshine and Busy Buddies
groups from. Lucan to a dessert
euchre in the Legion hall, Wednesday.
Sixteen tables of euchre were at
play with winners as follows - Hazel
Walker, Hannah Clark, Mrs. Dowell;
ladies special score number 60 was
won by Audrey Hodgins; Harry
Noels, Tom Carter, Betty Adair.
Special men's score of 58 was won by
Levi White.
The next meeting will be October 30
with a pot -luck dinner followed by
euchre.
Despite the heavy rain October 18,
a group'of 50 seniors filled the Activi-
ty Centre to see the beautiful pictures
of New Zealand. Mrs. Evelyn
McNaughton, who had been there
recently, shared her trip with the
group.
Ervin Gingerich, chairman of the
Centre committee, expressed thanks
to Evelyn for the fine presentation.
Following this, Ted Tong of Pictou,
N.S. who was in the audience and
visiting Jean and Elliott McKichan,
drew the ticket of the Windmill quilt
which was won by Mrs. David (Beth)
Mains, Church street, Ailsa Craig.
Many found the artifacts displayed
by Evelyn very interesting. Tea and
cookies were served by Margaret
Wilson and committee.
