Hawks show complete reversal, win over Clinton
The Exeter hawks had a complete
reversal of form in the third period of
their two weekend games to end up
with an even split.
At home, Friday, the locals over-
came a four -goal deficit with six
unanswered goals in the final stanza
to beat the high -flying Clinton
Mustangs 9-7.
In Brussels Sunday afternoon, the
Hawks trailed by only one goal going
into the final 20 minutes of play and
watched the Bulls score 10
unanswered goals to post a 15-4 drub-
bing for the highest number of goals
scored against a local Junior "D"
team in recent memory.
This week the Hawks hit the road
for two games..They.:l1 be in Tavistock
on Friday to battle the Braves and
Sunday they'll travel to Thamesford
to meet the Trojans.
Whiteford sparks rally
Sean Whiteford didn't arrive at the
rec centre for Friday's game until the
end of the second period due to work
commitments, but it didn't take him
long to make his presence felt in the
lineup.
The Hawks were trailing 7-3 at the
end of the second to the visiting Clin-
ton Mustangs and most of the local
squad appearedready to accept
defeat.
However, Whiteford had different
ideas and set about to spark the squad
as he registered two goals and
assisted on three others as the Hawks
scored six unanswered goals to post
their second win of the season.
Whiteford's'linemates for the third
period were George Pratt and Steve
Gould. Pratt scored twice in the third
and Gould notched one to match one
Broncos get point
in atom hockey
The Exeter Broncos could manage
only one point in two Shamrock atom
category hockey games this week.
Wednesday the Broncos and Lucan
played to a 4-4 tie and the following
night in Strathroy, the home team ek-
ed out a 2-1 decision.
Against Lucan, the Broncos held a
2-0 first period lead on successful shot
by Jason Heywood on an unassisted
effort and Jeff Lingard as he con-
verted a pass from Mark Brintnell.'
Lucan came' roaring back with
three straight goals in the middle
stanza and early in the third. Scott
Smith scored twice and Jeremy
Jemic added the single.
Near the four minute mark of the
final period, Joel Smith and Mark
Lynn registered to give the Broncos
a one goal margin on the scoreboard.
Assisting were Jason Heywood and
Steve Farquhar.
The tying goal for Lucan with less
than two minutes to go came from the
stick of Jeremy Jemic on a pass from
Paul O'Shea.
In the loss to Strathroy the only Ex-
eter goal was fired by Mark Lynn on
passes from Steve Farquhar and
Jason Heywood.

Blown away
The Hawks were holding their own
with the powerful Bulls in Brussels on
Sunday until the roof fell in on them
in the final period.
Exetertrailed 5-4 starting the third
and the Bulls netted a couple of quick
ones to open that frame and then pot-
ted three more on powerplays when
Brentfltthill picked up a major and
minor penalty and a bench penalty
was assessed when another Hawk
fired some verbal abuse at the
referee.
Brussels continued to pour it on
with four more after the penalties ex-
pired to end up with 10 in the final
stanza.
