The junior girls put on tremendous
showing and as a team placed first.
This week the South Huron cross-
country teams once more
demonstrated their impressive
talents at a tournament hosted at the
highschool. In the midget girls com-

place finish; Rosemary Regier came
in sixteen seconds later to finish fifth.
Sandra Relouw placed eighth. Bonnie
Turnbull, Janice Turnball, Sandra
Rooseboom, Sheri Varley, Cathy
Hartman and Sandra Kechnie all
placed within seconds of each other
with finishes of 28, 29th, 30th, 32rd,
and 39th respectively.
The senior girls came through as
well and placed second. Sheila Regier
ran to finish third;._ Kathleen_Little-_
placed sixth; Sandra Hullebusch
came in tenth and Colleen Regier
placed thirteenth.
In midget boys competition Henry
Debruyn placed an impressive tenth
and Jason McFalls placed 34th.
The only junior bey running for
South Huron, Jay Caers, placed 44th.
The senior boys pulled off a fourth
place finish with Jeff Wareham, Mike
Clark, Ray Lewis, Glen Durie and
Don Wareing placing 20th, 21st, 23rd,
25th, and 28th. Craig Winbow, Tim
Teeter and Greg O'Toole also con-
tributed to the win.
Thursday the teams competed
again at the Chicipee Ski -Hill invita-
tional in Kitchener. Among many
other endurance testing spots, the
course included running up a ski -hill
of several hundred feet and then run-
ning down. Sounds easy right? There
were as many as five hundred run-
ners in each race and there were over
one hundred schools competing.
The senior girls ran well and Sheila
Regier placed exceptionally well in a
25th place finish. Sandra Relouw plac-
ed thirty-eighth; Colleen Regierfifty-
ninth; Kathleen Little sixty-fourth
and Sandra Kechnie placed ninety-
ninth.
In junior girls competition Christine
Chalmers ran to place seventy-first;
Bonnie Turnball and Sheri Varley
finished 107th and 108th. Jennifer
Gielnik placed 197th.
The senior boys ran well also and
Jason McFalls should be especially
commended. He ran as a senior
although he regularly qualifies as a
midget and he placed 181st. Jeff
Wareham finished 99th; Glen Durie,
Craig Winbow and Tim Teeter plac-
ed 127th, 135th, and 177th.
Good work cross-country teams
and good luck at Huron Perth!
Field hockey
Monday, the field hockey team
played in Stratford against Stratford
Central and .as usual they defeated
their opponents with relative ease.
The girls won 2-0; Kendra Arthur
and Ronalyn Bell scored one each.
More impressive wins are expected
as the finals draw closer.
Basketball
Two games were played by the
midget girls this past week. October
10, South Huron hosted the Wingham
team and won the game with a score
of 40-36. It was a close game; at half-
time the score was 21-20. Michelle
Ellison had a good game, scoring
twelve points. Spring Cushman
scored eight and Lori Harburn scored
nine points.
The team played again on Friday.
According to coach Pat Rowe, the
-game was rather slow and sluggish
but it provided an good opportunity to
allow all the members playing time.
The team won 41-10. Michelle Caers
was top scorer with ten points and
Spring Cushman, Michelle Ellison.
Lori lfarubrn and Christine Rose
scored six points each.
In junior Competition the girls ex-
perienced two easy 'wins. They
defeated Wingham 32-19 and Laurie
Forrester led the scoring with ten
points. Beth Sweeney, Cheyenne
Mosurinjohn each scored six and
Kathy Merner scored five points.
Friday the team played St. Marys
and defeated them 30-15. Once more
Laurie Forrester was top scoreer with
twelve points. Cheyenne Mosurinjohn
followed with eight.
The senior girls didn't let us down
and came through with two wins as
well. They defeated Wingham 36-29.
Irene Brand played well as a result
scored fifteen points. There to back
her up were Diane Willis who scored
six and Andrea Zimmer and Julie
McBride who each scored four.
The seniors beat St. Marys 40-17.
Irene was top scorer again with
seventeen points.

Irish pick up three points
The Lucan Irish consolidated their
hold on second place in the OHA
Western Junior "D'"south grouping
by taking three of a possible four
points this week.
On home ice Wednesday night the
Irish scored a 7-3 vicotry over the Mit-
chell Hawks and Sunday in Brussels
they held the hometown Bulls to a 6-6
tie.
The Irish are in action three times
during the next seven days. They
Snowmobile
races start
Snowmobile racing has begun for
another year, with Team Circus
already participating in two local
races.
The team is once again very pleas-
ed to announce that Hully Gully is
sponsoring them with a 1986 Yamaha
Phazer.
This sled will be raced on both grass
and snow on the drag racing circuit
in and around south western Ontario,
oval racing and sno-cross in Ontario,
Michigan and New York. The boys
are again looking forward to a very
successful year.
Team Circus is comprised of seven
local members this year: Brian
Eickmeier of Mitchell is the driver. -
The other members include Mike
Kells, Brodhagen; Rod Baxter,
Wayne Henderson and Doug Bell,
Mitchell as mechanics. Brenda Bell,
Mitchell is the powderpuff driver
competing in both sno-cross and drag
racing.
A new member to the team this
year is Brent Van Moorsel of Mitchell
he will be racing his 1978 SRX
Yamaha in mod stock, drags and oval
on the same circuit as Brian.
Brian will also be racing Mike
Kells, 1979 SRX Yamaha on the drag
racing circuit.
The first race of the season -was
held on September 29, a beautiful
warm day, at Hully Gully. There was
- a= tot--of-'competition that day..and
everyone was pleased with the way
things went.

to the Clinton Mustangs and are on
the road Friday to Tavistock and Sun-
day to Mount Brydges.
Two power play goals in the third
period enabled the Irish to get the tie
with the Brussels club. With only
seven minutes remaining and
Brussels in front by a score of 6-4,
Brad Muir converted passes from
Dean Schram and Jesse Crawford to
cut the deficit to a single goal and with
five minutes remaining Paul Barnes
shot the tying goal with Dean Schram
providing the pass.
The Irish had scored four times in
the first period to take a 4-3 lead and
the Bulls counted the only two tallies
of the middle frame.
After Brussels had scored at 50
seconds of the opening period, Al
Craig knotted the count with a suc-
cessful shot only a minute later with
Brad Muir and Dean Doerr assisting.
In the last seven minutes of the first
period, Dean Schram converted a

The Exeter pee wees went on a
scoring spree in their first exhibition
hockey game of the season with a 10-0
romp over Clinton.
In the first period, Harlen Tinney
scored on an unassised effort. In the
middle frame, the Exeter youngsters
broke the game wide open with four
successful shots.
Mark Burton fired two successful
shots with assists going to David
Dalrymple and Steve Dubarry. Also
hitting the net were Todd McCann and
David Schwindt on passes provided
by Jamie Bedard, David O'Connor,
Harlen Tinney and Tim van Dam.
In the third period, David Schwindt
scored twice to up his game total to
three. Assisting were Jamie Bedard,
David Dalrymple, Harlen Tinney and
Lennie Carter.

The new shuffleboard season at the
South Huron Rec Centre opened
Wednesday with Pearl McKnight tak-
ing the first competition with three
victories and a score of 215.
Grace Farquhar was second with a
pair of wins and 207 while Charles
Tindall was next at 192 and John
Eberle srnred 191.

Lead early against Hawks
In Wednesday's win over the Mit-
chell Hawks, the Irish scored four
times in the the first 20 minutes of
play and were well on the way.
Wayne Urbshott continued to be the
leading scorer for Lucan as he scored
three times in the first period and
assisted on the fourth fired from the
stick of Bob Thirlwall.
Assisting on the three Urbshott
goals were Scott Denommy, Paul
Barnes, Jeff Hodgins, Jesse Crawford
and Bob Thirlwall.
In the second session Jeff Hodginsj
and Paul Foran notched one goal
apiece for the Irish with Denommy,
Hodgins and Ian Craig getting credit
for assists.
The seventh and final goal coming
late in the third period was fired by
Paul Foran on a play started by Mark
Bannon.
