The good-sized crowd assembled. More chairs were brought forth. Touching the hearts of the crowd were these young ladies "The Joy Belles" (Janine and Julie DeVree and Julie Barron of London) who clad in pretty costumes, sang sweetly. Adding more to the musical pro- gram were the "Afternoon Delight" (a group of Sweet Adelines directed by Julie Beadle) who share their talents with seniors and Parkwood Home, London, provided entertain- ment for all. During the intermission, many pur- chased ticket's on the queen size "Windmill Quilt". Mrs. Evelyn McNaughton ably chaired the program and on behalf of the Activity Centre thanked 'the - stars' for sharing their musical talents with everyone. The singing of the Queen closed the program. This musical program was one of the numerous services provid- ed for seniors by the Activity Centre. Tuesday afternoon, Mrs. Evelyn McNaughton, convener of Agriculture and Canadian Industries and her committee entertained Riverview Women's Institute members at "Col- dstream Coverlets", the home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter McIntyr,. Here Mr. McIntyre. ' has made several homemade weaving looms where he weaves plain or coloured coverlets which have been sold far and wide. From here we travelled to Marsh's General Store, at Coldstream where tea and tasty muffins were served a cosy tearoom, on behalf of the hostess group and Mrs. Elliott McKichan's committee. Following this, Institute president, Mrs. Lorna Priestley opened the, regular meeting with the Institute and repeating the Mary Stewart Collect. Eighteen members answered the roll call with replies such as food, families, friends, health, beauty of the country to be thankful for. GRADUATES — Ken Van Wieren, son of Klaas and Rita Von Wieren, Hensoll graduated with honours in Travel and Tourism from Westervelt Business College in London. He also obtained his Commercial Pilots License at Western Air Ser- vices in August 1985. Ken is a graduate of SHDHS and hos token a position with Ellison Travel, Exeter. Anniversary at Centralia YC By Mrs. TOM KOOT Centralia Next Sunday October 20th will be anniversary and baptismal services at the United Church. Despite the rainy day, Saturday seemed to be a day for weddings. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Mills and Mr. and Mrs. Ron Snelgrove were guests at a London wedding. Mrs. Linda Riley, Ben and Wendi of Toronto were guests at the Durnin-Riley wedding in Goderich. Wendi spent the holiday weekend with her mother. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Brandon, Heather, Catherine and Scott of Ux- bridge, Mrs. Ron Brittain, Jeremy and Megan of Markham were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Powe on the weekend. They all were guests of Mrs. Audrey McGregor of Exeter on Saturday. Tom and Mary Kooy were Thanksgiving dinner guests Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Bonner and family, Poplar Bill. The first euchre party of the season was held in the Community Centre October 7 with 13 tables playing con- vened by Larry and Mary ('ronyn and Borden Smyth. Prizes went to high score, Marjorie Steeper, Harry Noels; lone hands, Margaret CaVter, Charlie Rollings; low score, Nola Lewis, Ed Armstrong. The next party October 21 will be convened by Harry and Marian Noels and Helen MacDonald. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Rick Walker on the birth of a son Evan Richard a little brother for Janette and Sarah. Sympathy of the community is ex- tended to Mr. and Mrs. Dawson Ilayter and family following the death of Dawson's father of Grand Bend. Mr. and Mrs. Daryl Tripp and fami- ly have returned 10 Ontario from Calgary Alberta. Mr. and Mrs. Brent Caslick and Gregory spent the holiday weekend with Jean's parents Mr. and Mrs. George Beckberger, Cargill and helped them celebrate their 40th wed- ding anniversary with open house and Sunday celebrated Brents father Bert Caslick's birthday. Two delegates were appointed to at- tend the Area Convention on October 30, 31 at Nordan Restaurant. Continuing on with the program, Evelyn assisted by Mrs. Olive Currie and Mrs. Ruby McLean read "Thanksgiving readings". The Home and Country magazines were handed out. In closing the president expressed thanks to the program and lunch.com- mittees, also to car drivers who donated their services freely on this delightful outing. Before leaving, a time of shopping or "just looking around" was enjoyed in the old general store. A number of seniors and friends en- joyed a pleasant holiday at Elim Lodge in Kawartha Lakes region with their host and hostess, Elaine and Gerald Charlton (who are well-known in this area). a Won't you plan to attend the pic- tures on New Zealand at the Activity Centre at 7:30 on October 18.
