T -A photo Thanksgiving tree for Institute By MRS. IRVIN RADER Dashwood Women's Institute held their meeting Wednesday, October 1. The Agriculture and Canadian In- dustries group was in -charge with conveners Mrs. Ralph Weber and Mrs. Mildred Kellerman. President Mrs. Emil Becker opened the meeting by displaying a special tree on which messages were pinned for Thanksgiving. Fifteen members and four guests answered the roll call - name your favourite tree on your property. Mrs. Edith Baker was appointed Public Relations Officer. Mrs. Eben Weigand and Mrs. Emil Becker were appointed delegates to the Fall Rally October 7. Mrs. Harvey Beierling and Mary Rader were appointed delegates to the London Area Conven- tion at Nordon Restaurant, London, October 30 and 31. The ladies and several men went to Hayter's turkey farm where Tom Hayter gave a tour of the new shed where the • turkeys are killed, defeathered and cleaned prior to be- ing put in coolers and freezers. Win-. ners in a lucky draw were Mrs. Earl Kpllpr Mrs. Gerald Mason'and Mary Rader, Ralph Weber showed pictures of their trip to England, Scotland and other places of interest as well as their home. Muffins and jelly were served for lunch. Bus Trip A -bus load from Dashwood Good Companions, Exeter Seniors and Grand Bend Golden Agers enjoyed four beautiful days over the weekend at Windemere in the Muskoka District. The weather was sunny and the color beautiful. All reported an en- joyable four days. J Personals Clara Graupner, who lived in Dashwood as a young girl, passed away September 17 at Plymouth, Michigan, with the funeral at St. Paul's Lutheran church in Northville, Michigan. Mrs. Rose Kraft, formerly of Dashwood; passed away October 3 at Parkwood . Hospital, London. The funeral was held Sunday at the T. Harry Hoffman Funeral Home. Pall bearers were Bill Kraft, Stewart i Kraft, Mark and Scott Kraft, Jim and I Bob: Hoffman. Weekend guests with Pastor and Mrs. M. Mellecke were Judith Mellecke of Ohio, Rachel Mellecke and Jay Lenanski of Ann Arbor Michigan. Mrs. and Mrs. T. Harry Hayter and Jayne visited with Mr. and Mrs. John ' Snyder, Brantford, Sunday. They all attended the Thanksgiving service at Faith Lutheran Church where Jayne was guest soloist. Visitors during the week with Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Miller were Marjorie Haywood, London, Mr. and Mrs. Ken Clark, Dresden, and Mrs. Keith Horner, Grand Bend. HAROLD DAVIS Kirkton Women's Institute met recently at the Kirkton-Woodham Community Centre. Phyllis Rodd, opened the meeting. Roll call was "A Mother's Roll in bringing up children". Family and Consumers Conveners Verna Blackler and Doris Batten were in charge of the meeting. The guest speaker, Mrs. Nancy Schaffe, • spoke on Alzheimers Disease. Tracy Shute played two piano solos. The October rally is in Atwood on October 10. Everybody welcome. The area convention is in London on Oc- tober 30 and 31. Times -Advocate, October 9, 1985 Page 9A Clandeboye ladies on bus trip Jean Hodgins and Hazel Williams were among the 46 passengers on a three day bus tour to Elim Lodge, in the beautiful Kawartha lakes Region, last week. The tour originated in Ailsa Craig with Betty and Harold Guilfoyle as hostesses and Peter McNaughton of Ilderton Tours, as driver. Elaine and Gerald Charlton, formerly of McGillivray township and Parkhill area, have been assisting with this Christian Conference Resort and Retreat Centre, for the last few years, working very hard to build its fine reputation as a Family Vacation Rersort. Elaine is in charge of the din- ing room and the meals were superb. Gerald is custodian and with his trade as a carpenter, assists where needed. A three hour boat cruise on Thursday afternoon on Pigeon and Buckhorn Lakesto see the beautiful fall colours was a real pleasure. Evenings were spent playing cards, crokinole and a film was shown on Thursday evening. Conducted.,Van Tours of the 45 acre resort were given for those who found difficulty in walk- ing distances, while others enjoyed the refreshing walk around the beautiful resort. Church Service St. James Anglican Church held its Harvest home Festival and Holy Communion on Sunday a week before Thanksgiving, in order to include families who will be away for the holiday. The church was decorated with fruits, vegetables and canned goods, Crediton 4-H The Crediton 4H Club No. 1 had their second meeting September 28 at the Crediton Community Centre (Hall). We learned how to bake a covered apple pie and Mary Kenney came along to give us some help. We also made oil; lard, butter and shortening pastries to try, and to see which one we preferred. The meeting was a fun one because we got to test four kinds of pastry and also the apple pie.
