elders. The other elders are namely

tyne, Bill -Rohde and Mrs. Margaret
Stewart. They all served communion.
The Scripture Lesson was read
from Job 42:1-6, James 4:13-17, 5:7-11
and Mark 9:38-50. The meditation was
entitled "In The Name of Jesus".
Meditation: Job gives up his 'poor
me" attitude and prepares to make a
new start.
Jesus demonstrates an in-
clusiveness to his ministry which
overawes his disciples and other
followers.
True greatness comes from follow-
ing God as closely as we can.
Job speaks of admitting our own
helplessness. Passages address social
justice verses clerical arrogance and
challenge our prejudices.

By MARGARET HOGGARTH
Kippen
The fourth meeting of the Kippen
ill 4-H club was held on October 1 at
Brucefield United Church. This
meeting was about baking cakes. We
learned about the different kinds of
cakes, how to beat egg white, the ac-
tual baking of the cake, and the nutri-
tional value of specific cakes.
We made peanut butter cupcakes,
chocolate cake and apple chiffon
cake. The first two were done in time
for us to taste, and were very good.

I hope most of our readers went on
a sight seeing tour on Sunday to view '
the beautiful fall colours. Time is run-
ning out, as I noticed several trees
have already been stripped of their
foliage.
The regular monthly meeting of the
Ladies Auxiliary was held on Tuesday
evening. Mr. Alfred Ropp of
Tavistock and other members of his
group from the New Hamburg area
entertained for the evening with
violin, guitar, mouth -organ, step dan-
cing, piano and vocal numbers. The
residents certainly enjoyed the pro-
gram and were looking forward to u
repeat performance. Refreshments
were served to residents and guests
following the program.
The annual Auxiliary bazaar, bake
sale, tea and penny sale will be held
on Saturday, November 9 from 2:00
to 4:00 p.m. here as usual. Please
reserve this date. If you can con-
tribute baking or items for the penny
sale, I know they would be most ap-
preciated. Proceeds of course, are for
the benefit of the Home and the
residents' needs.
Our morning sessions of discussion
groups, fitness groups, singing, etc
are becoming more vigorous since the
cooler weather discourages the
residents from sitting outside and tak-
ing their regular walks.
Rev. Stan McDonald of Hensall
United Church conducted a commu-
nion service in the chapel on Thurs-
day morning for all church members
and those wishing to partake. Father
Mooney of St. Boniface church,
Zurich, celebrated mass on Thursday
afternoon for his parishoners.
Mrs. Margaret Pfaff is still a pa-
tient in South Huron Hospital, Exeter.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Young, Nelson
Howe and Ivan Norris of the Staffa
area entertained the residents on
Saturday evening to some good old-
time music. To say the least, it was
thoroughly enjoyed. Come again,
soon.
Mr. Merlin Bender of the Conser-
vative Mennonite church conducted
the Sunday evening chapel service.
