Special projects are set
for fire prevention week
Remember, this is Fire Prevention
Week, and a number of special ac-
tivities are going on in the Grand
Bend area to promote the idea. The
Grand Bend Fire Department is spon-
soring a poster contest in the public
school, with trophies to be awarded at
the Junior and Senior levels.
On Monday, the 1st Grand Bend
Guides will be visiting the Fire Hall,
on Tuesday the Brownies will be tour-
ing the facilities, and on Thursday it
will be the Cubs turn. There is even
supposed to be a National Fire Drill
televised on Channel 10 at 6 p.m. on
Wednesday, October 9 called "Let's
all plan to get out alive!"
All of the school children have been
sent home with a form to devise a
floor plan escape route for their own
home, and to be ready by Wednesday.
It's a great idea, and one that could
save your life, so tune in and try your
own fire drill!
Golden Agers meeting -
Thirty Golden Agers met Thurs-
day at St. John's parish hall. Presi-
dent lla Kayes presided. A singsong
of old favorites followed, with Nola
Love at the piano.
During the business meeting, they
were reminded of the Zone 8 fall ral-

Agers will also be having a table dur-

located opposite the United Church in
the front yard of Buelah Holt. Ella
Bailey gave a report on the Senior
Citizens' games, held at St. Marys in
September. A bus trip to the Royal
Winter Fair is being planned for
sometime in November; the date will
be set later.
Loreen Gill's group was in charge
of the program, which opened with a
reading, "Old Age can be Fun" by
Ella Bailey. Loreen gave two
readings. Ila Kayes conducted a con-
test with trees as answers, won by
Catherine Junket. The group sang
"Happy Birthday" for the four
members with October birthdays.
A few games of bingo were played,
and the winners were Dorothy Cut-
ting, Lawrence Johnson and Iva
Ewener.. Games of Uno, euchre and
erokinole rounded out the afternoon.
Bible coffee hour
Twelve ladies were out to the Bible
coffee hour at Nita Sinclair's home
Tuesday morning. There were also
two special visitors from Medicine
Hat, Alberta, Mrs. Lydia Jesske and
Mrs. Edna Burkhart, who are the
mother and sister of Millie
Desjardine.
The ladies opened with prayer and
a hymn sing. Mrs. Anne Richardson
led the lesson from Romans 9:22-33.
They reviewed the quotas of the pro-
phets in vs. 25-29 which back up Paul's
statement that "God calls not only
from the Jews, but from among the
Gentiles."
The closing prayer was given by
Irene Read. See all or you ladies next
week.
