At Friday's Commencement
High scliool graduates asked to become more than average
Graduates of South Huron District
High School were urged at Friday
night's Commencement to become
more than average citizens.
These words came from John
Wooden representing Grade 13
students. He said Commencement is
not really a beginning but the con-
tinuation of the learning processes.
Speaking for Grade 12 graduates,

Huron Board of Education
superintendent Bob McCall said,
"This county of ours will be in good
hands when these graduates take
their places in leadership.
Graduates were told by board
chairman Eugene Frayne "be proud
of your heritage, your parents and
yourself.
Others speaking briefly were
trustees Harry Hayter and Dennis
Rau. SHDHS vice-principal Sherwood
Eddy was chairman for the evening.
Principal Bruce Shaw told students
they were now on their own and to
make decisions wisely.
Receiving Student Council subject
prizes were Kathy Schade, John
Wooden, Deb Penninga, Karla
Josephson, Karen Steinbach, Leslie
Swartman, Karla Josephson, Liz
Martens, Greg Hartman, Joe
Martens, Colleen Glasgow, Rachel
Mellecke, Steve Batten and Darlene
McBride.
Student Council Scholarships were
won by Kathy Schade, Paul Smith
and Jack Fitzgerald, while Liam
Brennan, Susan Birmingham and
Scott Jesney were honoured for mak-
ing outstanding contributions to the
life of the school and the community.
Karen Steinbach, Jack Fitzgerald and
Laura Brennan received teaching
staff scholarships.
Secretarial certificates went to Kim
Coon, Ron Latky, Heather Prout,
Cheryl Webber, Deb Bedard, Lois
Goldsmith, Brenda Hoonard, Lori
Johns, Pat Lerikos, Deb Mathers,
Charlotte Miller, Heather Stephen,
Laura Brennan, Leah Prest and
Cathy Norris.
Library service awards went to
Laura Campbell and Steven Taziar
and technical prize winners were
Jack Fitzgerald, Tom Kester and
Terry Zehr.
Technical division director Walter
Fydenchuk said Tom was the third
member of the Kester family to win
this award.
On the grade 12 honour roll were
Karla Josephson, Tom Kester, Laura
Campbell, Catherine Hogan, Dennis
Schroeder, Irene Brand, Paul Smith,
Tammy Durand, Colleen Regier and
Murt•ay Rundle.
The grade 13 honour roll students
were Greg Hartman, Rachel
Mellecke, Colleen Glasgow, Karen
Steinbach, Joe Martens, John Wooden
and Leslie Swartman. These seven
were also Ontario Scholars along with
Kathy Schade, Deb Penninga and
Karen Walper. They received their
certificates from Ontario's
Agriculture Minister Jack Riddell.
The Moncur Scholarships were won
by Greg Hartman, Colleen Glasgow
and Rachel Mellecke.
The Scott Hasselback Memorial
Scholarship was won by Joe Martens,
John Wooden was awarded the Mary
Farrow award and Jacqui Cottrell
received the Marg Pym Memorial
citizenship award.

Auxiliary and Lionesses were won by
