As the juniors head into their
season they have struggled. With
hard work and patience their record
stands at one -one. The young team
headed into the Stratford Nor-
thwestern game with an uphill battle.
The offence was generated around
John O'Connor and Trevor Lottrell as
they beat the Huskies 14-12. The Pan-
thers struck a touchdown with the
running of Trevor Cottrell in the first
quarter as he totaled 190 yards on 38
carries.
Other scoring came from Jon
O'Connor with a single and a
touchdown, while one convert just
missed. The Panther passing com-
pleted four passes of seven attempts,

Fred Gregus both helped out as they
caught one pass each for 28 yards.

Promising year for SH athletes
South Huron's sports teams have an hour. Even through the team was
once again launched a promising year
of athletics. This fall, as well as the
traditional sports, such as field
hockey, girls' basketball, cross-
country and football, golf and junior
boys' volleyball have been offered
with Mr. Little and Mr. Ha'penny
coaching respectively.
Unfortunately, since both sports
have not been offered for some time
at South Huron, this year will pro-
bably remain a 'building year' used
to gain experience.
However, the field hockey team,
coached by Mr. Workman, has
already had several impressive wins.
During the second week of school, the
girls played an exhibition match
against Strathroy. Two games were
played simultaneously. The team won
one with a score .of 1-0 and lost the
other 0-3. Kim Crawford scored the
only goal.
Saturday, September 21, the girls
played in Scarborough at the
L'Amoreaux Invitational. They plac-
ed second to last year's OFSAA
champs, but only after two 15 minute
halves and a seven and a half minute
sudden death overtime. Twenty-five
teams were present.
Up until the final match no games
were lost and only two were tied; a
total of seven games were played.
Scorers of the day were Kendra Ar-
thur, Lee O'Rourke, Kim Crawford,
Julie Russell and Susan Boyle.
However, all the girls should be
commended.
Many of them played all day long
with the longest break being only half

exhausted by the final game, they
didn't falter in their quest to win. Julie
Wilkinson was a superb goalie as she
stopped all but two goals during the
entire day.
Monday, the girls played St. Marys
at South Huron. The opposing team
was rumoured to have improved con-
siderably since last year. However,
they were no match for South Huron;
the girls won with a 5-1 victory.
Ronalyn Bell was top scorer with two
goals, Kendra Arthur, Kim Crawford
and Jodi McBride also scored goals.
The midget girls basketball team is
currently experiencing a very good
start to a promising season. They now
stand with a 2-1 win loss record in con-
ference play after defeating Seaforth
63-15 and Central Huron 43-15. The
girls lost to Stratford Central 20-44.
All 15 players are in their first year
of highschool competition but the
team has promise. Top scorers so far
are: Michelle Ellison, Lori Harburn,
Lisa Morris and Christine Rose. The
rest of team consists of: Michelle
Caers, Erika Coeck, Spring Cushman,
Tracy Fisher, Peggy Gackstetter,
Lori Harburn, Terri Maurer,
Elizabeth Mol, Kally Manders, Kim
Murray and Tammy Rau.
This week the team travels to
Listowel for a game, but South Huron
hosts F.E. Madill of Wingham on
Thursday. Game time is 2 p.m. and
parents are invited to attend all home
games.
In the most recent games, the
juniors have played well and as a
result they defeated Stratford Central
32-29; London Central 15-10 and Cen-
tral Huron 34-12. The girls didn't far
quite so well against Lambton Cen-
tral, losing with a score of 10-44.
Laurie Forrester was top scorer in all
four games. Beth Sweeney and
Cheyenne Mosurinjohh have also
been key players thus far.
The senior team this year consists
of many first year players and so this
year could be deemed a 'building
year'. The girls defeated Central
Huron 31-24 and lost to Stratford Cen-
tral and London Central in their most
recent games. Dianne Willis, Irene
Brand, and Kelly Whiteford are top
scorers. Andrea Zimmer and Dianne
