to help pick careers
This year, for the first time, grade
12 students from South Huron District
High School are taking part in a work
experience program. The program is
designed to give the students an ear-
ly start at choosing a career.
Twelve students were chosen from
among the 30 who applied, and those
students are being sent out to work at
various businesses and organizations
in Exeter. They spend half a day at
school and half a day on the job. They
are sent to three different businesses
within the school year.

Rick Graham, head of the Guidance
Department at the high school, is
organizer of the program. He selected
the 12 students on the basis of their
grades, recommendations from
references, and a personal interview
with each individual.
"The program will be a great ex-
perience and introduction into the
business world for the kids," says
Graham. "It will either encourage or
discourage them from choosing a cer-
tain career."
From the student's point of view, it
will be very helpful next year when
facing the task of choosing a career.
"It will be interesting to experience
the different jobs first hand," says
Donna Taylor, one of the chosen
students. "It will help me to make
some decisions about my career next
year."
Other students also agree that not
only will it help in the same aspect,
but it will also give them a welcome
break from the usual school routine.
This is the first time for the pro-
gram in Huron County, so Mr.
Graham hopes that it will be a great
success. The program will be
repeated at South Huron next year.
Students who are participating in
this year's program are: Karen
Dietrich, Lori Rau, Rita Denomme,
Donna Taylor, Susanne Smith,
Marianne Hendricks, Bernadette
