Hern won the junior showmanship title and then won the over-all showmanship test with Pym placing second. Wise orders moratorium Agriculture Minister John Wise has declared an immediate moratorium on Farm Credit Corporation (FCC) foreclosure actions. "I want to make sure that no farmer will be forced off the farm while I am reviewing the role and mandate of FCC, the Bruce -Grey Debt Review Board pilot project report and reports from FCC Appeal Board Chairmen. "I want to make sure that those in- dividuals who might be assisted by new initiatives will have that oppor- tunity," explained Wise. As of today, there are approximate- ly 670 FCC foreclosure cases in pro- gress which will be put on hold. Over the past six months FCC has initiated an average of 14 foreclosure actions a week. Recovery actions will con- tinue in cases where the farm has been abandoned, where bankruptcy has been declared, where there has been a voluntary transfer of title or quit claim or where recovery action is initiated by another creditor forc- ing FCC to protect its security. I ETFR 4-H ft( Kids learn precarious nature of beef business Members of the Exeter Calf Club learned a bit about the precarious nature of the beef business at the Ex- eter fair, Saturday. Prices paid for this year's top animals was well off the near record amounts last year's entrants received. Jon Ellerington had the top animal in the 1985 competition and his animal sold to Barry Miller of Hensall Livestock Sales Ltd. for ;1.05 per pound. Rob Passmore's reserve champion went to Exeter Co -Op for 86t. Third place finisher Tom Passmore received 83t from Veal's Meat Market. Last year, the winner received $1.59 per pound and the reserve sold for $1.10. In addition to having the top animal, Jon Ellerington was judged junior showman, with Brad Hern in second. Joe Gower was the senior showman and Lisa Hern was runner- up. The latter's entry topped the gain division. At the Kent county, competition, Jim Paton won the championship in the open class and father Clare was third. At the International, Jim was third among 13 competitors in the antique class on Wednesday and Clare com- peted four days in the veterans class. He finished first, second, fourth and eighth. The Kirkton area gal won the showmanship contest and her animal was also best in the conformation test judged by Paul Gibbings. -Hoonaard was runner-up in both. While entries were down slightly in the 4-H beef calf club show, the quali- ty was high. Allen Pym topped the conformation test with Grant Hayter and Rob Hern following in that order. Pym also won the senior showman- ship class, followed by Murray Run- dle. Rob Hern took the junior honors with Lisa Hern as runner-up. In a bit of an upset, Rob Hern then took the overall showmanship honors with Pym getting the nod as runnerup from judge Keith Coates.
